SportsCenter has always been on speed dial for me, but didn’t think of it here either due to so many different hosts over the years.
If I were to pick one of the highlight shows though, I might have gone with CNN Sports Tonight with Nick Charles and Fred Hickman (RIP to both).

Quick hits:
Sportscenter. I remember a time when sports news was only on 3 channels at the same time every day. You relied on those handful of channels and newspapers. Pre Internet. Sportscenter was absolutely HUGE for me. HUGE. It came when I was a massive fan of nearly all sports. I watched it for years. I also haven't watched for years.
Last Kingdom. Marvelous. Loved it. Utred. Alfred. Just a solid show for me. It checks most of the boxes for shows I like.
The Crown. Great show. Great cast. Its Fiction. I watched it as fiction and my Wife and i loved the journey. Well made.

Travis Fimmel killed it as Ragnar and yeah, think I agree with you guys that it takes a dip but those were some large shoes to fill. I also liked Alex Hogh Anderson as Ivar.
The Last Kingdom was a totally different feel. And we loved that too. But Vikings was far more gritty.

Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis just starred with James McAvoy in Speak No Evil. The acting was superb.

For a while I was on the fence of which Office I preferred. I tend to like the subtleties of British humor a bit more than American which is more in your face. But they really nailed the US version too.
Who I prefer more Keith vs. Kevin will continually be a debate in my head.

I’ve never watched the US version because I’d read its first season was basically a joke-for-joke rehash of the first UK season, and then I met my wife and we got into our own TV-viewing routine that didn’t include it.
If I haven’t gotten around to the Sopranos despite having MAX, then I’m probably not getting around to US Office despite having Peacock.

I haven't seen the British version, but the first season of the US Office is pretty much just a mini season with only 6 episodes. It doesn't really get going until the 2nd season. The first season is one of the weaker ones. It’s interesting to me how many shows come from before the year 2000. I will be 60 this year so I watched almost all of those shows, but didn’t select almost any of them. I have realized that I began my list with an unspoken but firm assumption:
The quality of television in the 21st century is such that even mediocre shows are superior to the best television of the 20th century.
There are, of course, many exceptions to this rule, but they are exceptions and for me the rule is generally true. But maybe a lot of you disagree?

I think the main reason for so many older shows being on is that many of us put together our lists based on them being our favorites, not necessarily a best of list. Memories, nostalgia, time spent with family all seem to have played into these older shows being put on many lists.

Agree 100%. We probably discussed this way upthread, but decades ago, TV shaped a lot of people’s lives more so than it probably does now. TV, radio and the like were the basis of our entertainment, social (or lack thereof) and knowledge existence more than just an expansive entertainment outlet.
I think that’s why many of us went that route even if the production value wasn’t the best back then for many shows.

I expect nostalgia is a big part of it, and I think that's fine. A lot of my favorite shows are ones I remember watching with my friends and family. It makes sense that those memories would weigh more when ranking shows compared to movies or other stuff, since many shows we spent months or years watching. That may change with binge watching being more prevalent today. And yeah, I’d say shows have definitely gotten better lately because of more competition, bigger budgets, better effects, and more complex storylines.

I think it's true that production quality, general acting quality, and direction quality are much better now than they were 50 years ago. There's also a much less formulaic approach to what's produced than back then as well. Back then it would be tough to get a show to air if it didn't fit a pretty constrained set of genres. Today, there's way more acceptance of risk in terms of types and tones of shows being produced.
I'm not sure that writing has universally improved over that span though. I don't think it's gotten worse, but at this point there are more shows being produced than quality writers available to write for them. Thus for me, the shows on my list from 30, 40, 50 years ago are mainly there because the writing has held up even if some of the rest of their aspects haven't. I will rewatch the shows on my list because the stories and dialog are that good.

Oh, man. If you liked the book, watch the miniseries. A couple of the casting decisions (based on the novel's descriptions) can seem a little odd, but there's nary a misstep from book to film.

Good points. Perhaps it was a function of the times, but I also think that more shows back then were very groundbreaking for their era (e.g., All In The Family). Not that there aren’t such archetypes now, but it took a lot of risk back then to break the typecast mold.
