The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 2: Seinfeld 1: Breaking Bad (9 Viewers)

Had to rank The Brady Bunch. Loved watching it syndicated as a kid. I think I've seen every episode.

Then there's the crazy behind the scene mythos. I dont even know how much of it is true, but things like Greg hooking up with Florence Henderson and Marcia, Florence Henderson walking around backstage topless all the time, etc. Sounds like it was a crazy production.

John Ritter and Don Knotts were incredible physical comedians. Some episodes are worth watching just for that alone.

But the writing was bottom-of-the-barrel. Every episode was “somebody mishears something, hijinks ensue.” “That’s so Three’s Company” is now a standard phrase to describe bad TV writing.

Plus the premise is dated (people of opposite genders couldn’t get an apartment together unless they were married) and cringe (straight guy pretends to be gay, har har har).

I don't disagree with a word, and it didn't make my list, but, still a sentimental favorite of mine.
I also forgot to mention: The theme song sucks. And now it's stuck in my head.
reaction

It was not a good show, but I ranked it highly due to the considerable nostalgic factor and the incredible physical comic ability of John Ritter.

I still crack up at two of his best moments: taking tranquilizer pills at Greg Brady's dinner party and when he cooks poached salmon on TV with Janet and Terri (best clip I could find)

For this one I'm not 100% sure if everyone above voted for this or the original. I believe I assumed this version unless specified otherwise. It was also annoying to parse because it had that annoying character in the title. Consider this your chance to discuss all versions of Shogun.
The original was much better. I couldn’t get through the remake. And I LOVE this story/book

I don't believe the original had Anna Sawai.

So no, I don't see how it could have been better.

Another one I overlooked in my rankings.

Police Squad! almost made my Top 70 but got edged out. I haven't seen it in forever but it was hilarious.

The Brady Bunch movies (the first one, at least) I thought were a great (homage?) to the show, but I didn't like the show even though it was always on because of my sisters.

Florence Henderson has confirmed in interviews she has gone on a date with Barry Williams(Greg). Don't know about her going topless. She sure did have some Wessonality!

Also, a little bit more trivia: Barry Williams told this story in an interview once: He was scheduled off one day, and was hanging out with some friends. One of the friends brought some pot, and he thought "heck, why not?". Immediately after smoking, the producer called him and said they needed him to come in right away to do another take of a scene. So, whenever you see an episode with a later season where Greg is working on his bicycle in the driveway, know he is high as F#$K in that scene.

ABC announced the cancellation of Police Squad! after four of its six episodes had aired in March 1982. The final two episodes were aired that summer. In an interview for the DVD release of the series, Nielsen said ABC entertainment president Tony Thomopoulos asserted Police Squad! was canceled because viewers had to pay close attention to the show in order to get much of the humor: "the viewer had to watch it in order to appreciate it". Nielsen also thought the premise was more effective in the successful Naked Gun films because the much larger screen size in a cinema increases the efficacy of the visual gags. In its annual "Cheers and Jeers" issue, TV Guide magazine called the explanation for the cancellation "the most stupid reason a network ever gave for ending a series".

A few weeks ago, an internal Netflix memo leaked where they'd apparently told their show producers something to the effect of "Make sure in every scene, the characters are constantly talking about what they're physically doing. Because people are constantly looking at their phones and can't follow the story if it's not audibly explained."

I watched those that aired when they aired. Then eventually those that didn't. Too bad there were only 3 channels when this came out.

No ****!
Netflix actually films their movies and TV shows with the idea people won’t be paying much attention and will be distracted on their phones. No joke, they make their content intentionally so audiences don’t really have to pay attention.

I loved this show as a kid, and that love has never fizzled as an adult. It was always my feel good show as a youngster. I turned all my nephews and friends' kids on to it. The episodes always included some laughs and life lessons, and everything would be resolved and happy at the end of the episode. Whenever I revisit the show, I'm brought back to that comfort zone that I felt as a kid. Welp, I'd say more but "something suddenly came up." 🙃

We had an epic Brady Bunch trivia thread a long while back. It was way before clips were readily available online so everyone was doing it based on memory, and what I recall is that very few questions went unanswered for more than a couple of seconds.

The only one that comes to mind (have no idea who posted it) was: what nickname did Carol's high school boyfriend call her? That question might have stumped the board for a grand total of two minutes.

Oof. Some pretty bad shows in that batch

I could maybe see The Brady Bunch making my list, if I'd only ever seen 69 other tv shows ;)
Nostalgia definitely shining here in the low 100s
It’s more than just nostalgia for some of these old shows - at least for me (note: Brady Bunch was in my top ~100 but not in my top 70).

My rankings for this process were based on what I think is “greatest”, which might not equate to what I would consider “best” if I were to watch them today. Great to me means it was either very relevant/important to me or that it had such a huge part of cultural prominence at its time that almost everyone knew the characters, catch phrases, or key storylines.

Others may put more emphasis on what “holds up” better today or is better produced when watching it today. And that’s fine. But just calling out some of these older all-time shows are ranked more than just for nostalgia purposes.

Its incessant airing in syndication meant most people of a certain age are extremely familiar with the Bradys and their Hollywood Squares-sized family. It was cheesy but it had heart. Many of the scenarios were relatable -- especially to those of us with divorced parents/blended families -- and many of the jokes landed.

had 106 &105 on list at the start and moved from some nostalgia, but loved both of these. you three's company people, were you an RF or a Roper's person?
Not a big Three's Company fan, but the episodes with the Ropers were way better.
The writing got even worse as the series went on, so yes. But Knotts was a far better actor/comedian than Fell and Lindley.

That was my basis for ranking - it was so ubiquitous in syndication and a big part of my childhood. There are probably very few people on this board that are as schooled in Brady trivia as @simey and I are.
Back in the day I would have been there with you. Randomly there was a grill guy at the store when I was in HS that was about 10 years older (maybe more?) than us. He was an ex-con, rough looking dude, but we ended up becoming friends (pretty sure he was at our wedding, right @MrsKarmaPolice? ) and we shared a love for The Brady Bunch. We would randomly quiz each other on stuff. It has been a long time since I've watched the show, so I am sure I have lost a lot off the fastball on that front.

I do also really like the movies they made in the 90s. Christine Taylor

These shows were hilarious.
With the sheer volume of jokes, not every one hits, but thats the scattershot approach in full effect
The first movie was more polished and better written, but the episodic arc gave them more leeway.
The different chiefs between movie and show are a wash, although i kind of prefer Alan North more
As for the different Nordbergs, the TV show one was just really a doofus. With OJ Simpson in the movies it was way more fun to see him beaten, tortured and constantly suffering
I have never laughed harder than the first movie, so obviously right in my wheelhouse.
The TV Show is simply a load of fun i can watch again and again and pick up new stuff every time
