The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 2: Seinfeld 1: Breaking Bad (6 Viewers)

had 106 &105 on list at the start and moved from some nostalgia, but loved both of these. you three's company people, were you an RF or a Roper's person?
Not a big Three's Company fan, but the episodes with the Ropers were way better.
The writing got even worse as the series went on, so yes. But Knotts was a far better actor/comedian than Fell and Lindley.
That's a low bar for Knotts to clear. I just remember him mugging for the camera.

Seen some MST 3k. Didn't care much.

I thought Shogun was so well done. Might be some regency bias. Love me some Dawai and Sanada.

Haven't seen Police Squad! but I did like the movies so will have to check it out.

3's company is hilarious.

Watched some Brady Bunch. Didn't care for it.

TWD is...I got a little bored with the later seasons and I think I stopped watching it entirely at some point. Might rewatch just to see how I feel about it. I get why its so high and is probably worthy of being a top 100 show.

Binge watched the Expanse. Absolutely loved the first few seasons. I think this was on my list at some point but got lost in the shuffle.

Whenever I revisit the show, I'm brought back to that comfort zone that I felt as a kid. Welp, I'd say more but "something suddenly came up." 🙃
We had an epic Brady Bunch trivia thread a long while back. It was way before clips were readily available online so everyone was doing it based on memory, and what I recall is that very few questions went unanswered for more than a couple of seconds.

The only one that comes to mind (have no idea who posted it) was: what nickname did Carol's high school boyfriend call her? That question might have stumped the board for a grand total of two minutes.

Totally forgot about that thread - should have also mentioned you as one of the trivia kings - my bad.

You don't seem to have seen many of the shows mentioned so far in this countdown. I mean that in the best possible way. I am envious. It means you have done what I wish I had done, which is to stop the mindless absorption of endless tv shows.
I was more active when I was a kid/late 20's so I didn't watch a whole ton of tv and things are different now. Like I said earlier, sometimes I'll intentionally not watch a show unless I can start from the beginning which is something you can do now with streaming so I have a little catching up to do. Some of these shows were before my time and I didn't catch them in syndication.

Walking Dead being #101 is kind of perfect for it. A great, great show I probably would have had in my top 10 at one point that dropped off so hard without that strong start it wouldn't have come close to my top 70.
Didn't the original showrunners quit or get fired after a couple of seasons? You could see the quality go down hill right afterwards. I watched a couple more seasons, but finally gave up after the season that ended with the baseball bat killing.

The commercials for Reservation Dogs did the show no justice. I avoided watching it because it seemed like some formulaic show with kids getting up to shenanigans. There's some of that, kind of, but I'm so grateful I gave this show a chance. Each episode seems to have everything - you'll be laughing like hell one minute, borderline crying the next, then wondering why you think so small after that. It's got heart in spades without being too drippy, but sometimes it is drippy, and when it is you don't mind.

And it gets stronger with each season, as each season builds upon the season that came prior, just a fresh layer on top of another, much like the generations do in the show.

I was sad when it ended because the characters aren't in my life anymore. Not many shows can do that to me.
yes to all of this. I'll also say that this is a slice of life (rez life) that is very underrepresented in media, and I'm so glad that someone was willing to take a chance to put something like this out there.

My ranking was done based on the first 4-5 seasons. Later seasons don't exist in my worldview. I used that justification on a number of my highly ranked shows.
I know I'm being sort of a buzzkill here but if this were a serious thread then I don't think we should be selectively ranking a show based on specific seasons but it's all for fun so ignore me and carry on.

You’re spending an awful lot of time in a thread you don’t consider serious.

THE EXPANSE

Just missed getting all my top 10s in the top 100. Obviously, I love this show. I was hooked from the first episode, and to me it just kept getting better. There were a lot of very interesting ideas in here, and they took the science and tech seriously. The railguns, the injections for high G maneuvers, the Martian accents - at the very least I felt I was in good hands and the show was being run by people who love the show as much as I did.

I like both the books and the show, but this is also a rare case that I would give the show the slight nod. The books do better with the ideas like the protomolecule, but I thought the pacing was off and if I am reading something that long I like even more detailed worldbuilding and lean more fantasy in that regard. The show looked great and IMO ended well, especially considering they still had a few books of material they could have mined. Anybody who likes sci-fi should give this one a try if they haven't.

The description of the #100 show has me scared. I'm not ready to ramble about my #1 yet.

I dont think it matters. If you liked 4-5 seasons of a show enough to be able to rank it somewhere, so be it.

I could be misremembering, but I remember some truly interesting and creepy things the first couple episodes. Something about them having a bit of a "memory" and the dead wife/mom would be lurking at the door? F that.

I didn't include a lot of old shows (mostly because I'm dumb and didn't consider them), but for some reason this one made the cut. MJF was so dynamic and just commanded the screen. the rest of the cast and premise was fine, but it made my ranking almost solely because of him.

Now that we’re down to the final 100, here’s how my list is shaping up (since I’m sure you all care).

Consensus Rankings - Number of My Top 70
250+ - 3 shows (45, tbd, tbd)
201-250 - 5 shows (38, 56, 60, 66, 67)

101-150 - 6 shows (18, 29, 41, 55, 64, 70)

That was exactly the episode to stop at. I looked it up earlier and we got the Kingdom people and the dump people within a few episodes of that.

Epstein Drive episode satisfy that curiosity about getting around the solar system?

Walking Dead was amazing at its peak, I rode it out but I was definitely just hate watching at the end. Just too many stupid characters I didn’t care about

Tried a few of the spinoffs but meh. I’m just done with that universe
I liked the Tales one that was an anthology. One episode tied into the main show (and was the worst of the batch), but the others were just bottle zombie movies that didn't have to explain the type of zombies or show us the breakout or anything - the universe was already built, so they could just tell their stories. The episode with Parker Posey was especially great.

I had **** Van Dyke Show extremely high but it’s not nostalgia. I never saw an episode of the show until COVID. Binge watched then and absolutely loved it.
It was one of the two smartest shows on TV at the time. Carl Reiner was brilliant and the cast was stellar. You watch some of DVD's contemporaries and it doesn't even look like they were made in the same universe.

For this one I'm not 100% sure if everyone above voted for this or the original. I believe I assumed this version unless specified otherwise. It was also annoying to parse because it had that annoying character in the title. Consider this your chance to discuss all versions of Shogun.
The original was much better. I couldn’t get through the remake. And I LOVE this story/book

I don't believe the original had Anna Sawai.

So no, I don't see how it could have been better.
It also didn't have that block of wood who played Blackthorn. And it actually followed the plot of the book, which was far better.
He was awful. I couldn’t get past his diction

I guess. It's all subjective anyways. I guess it's like if you think X amount of seasons are as good or better than this 3 season show then it's fair to rank it but at the same time it's like if you don't include all the underwhelming seasons than it's not an accurate portrayal of the show. It's like reviewing half a movie or half a book. Maybe that only makes sense to me.

When it comes to quality for me, I tried to look at the quality of the story told. I didn't really weight if that was five or seven seasons, just how well was the story told.

It is a generic studio audience track, not theirs, i believe.
Then you believe incorrectly. The series finale showed them, and some of the bloopers have the cast interacting with them.

Maybe for that one episode, but they did have a live studio audience reacting to them throughout the series

"Typically with sitcoms like Friends, (the show HIMYM is easily compared to) they use a multi-camera approach where a live audience watches each scene onset and the laughter is then recorded. Since the show constantly jumps between flashbacks and flashforwards, a live studio audience would not be possible."

Like I said, you can see the cast interecting with them occasionally in the bloopers while filming the episodes.

Its incessant airing in syndication meant most people of a certain age are extremely familiar with the Bradys and their Hollywood Squares-sized family. It was cheesy but it had heart. Many of the scenarios were relatable -- especially to those of us with divorced parents/blended families -- and many of the jokes landed.
