Obviously this resonated with me given how big of a music fan I am, but it was also exceptionally well-written by '70s sitcom standards and is another case of a set of characters that I just want to hang out with. It was fascinating how the show was designed with Andy as the main character but the producers quickly realized that all of the other characters were more interesting and featured them accordingly.
Do we all know the back story of the last episode of season 1?
I actually hadn't heard about that. Hilarious that it backfired.

I think all of us grew up with looney tunes/merrie melodies/bugs bunny, I know they've rebooted and repackaged a ton but I don't know if our current generations watch them or if it was mainly a 70's/80's/90's thing. I do have 4 animated shows on my list but they are a little more adult but in general I don't really consider childerns cartoons to be some of the best tv of all time.

I have Buffy on my to watch list but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

I should check out WKRP In Cincinnati.

I may have seen some B+B and didn't really care for it. I know I did watch some King of the Hill and thought it was ok.

I will check out Daredevil. I honestly didn't know they even made a series.

This is on in my house pretty regularly - whenever my daughter and niece are both here, they watch it while doing crafts. I'll go in the room to spend time with them, then the character named Willow will talk, and I have to leave the room. Sorry, girls - can't spend time with Willow.
What do you have against Willow?

Had some cats named Spike and Willow at one time (they now live with the ex wife)
Her voice gives me pains in my head that make it hard for me to live. She sounds half stoned and half dumb... I'd rather listen to Fran Drescher.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

I've said elsewhere that I place a high premium on TV and movies that give me multiple emotions through the series and episodes. Yes, this show is a bit cheesy - look past that. (or have an edible and laugh even harder at the bad stunt work as Buffy morphs into a ripped 35 year old would a few inches taller than her, it works well for that too). This is a show that still makes me laugh multiple times in an episode on top of the drama and creeps. Yes, it makes me cry in episodes. Prom and the episode The Body come to mind right away. It has actual scares too - Hush is really creepy (and also really funny). Yes, I even like the episode that is a musical.

All that said, what sets it apart is the actors and characters. Like @B Maverick we have had pets named after characters. Giles is probably my favorite character - I love the Britishness and heart that Anthony Stewart Head brought to the character. We had a guinea pig named Giles and my cat that passed a couple years ago was officially named Dr. Rupert Fluffenstein, but Ripper is what I called him. Hannigan as Willow, despite having a voice that makes Tick want to kick a kitten, is another highlight for me. It does fall off a bit after the fanstastic Season 2/Season 3 back to back. A lot of the best characters come and go in those seasons - Oz, Faith, Jenny Calendar, the principals, Kendra to name a few. Still, the back half of the series still features more Willow, more Spike (way better than Angel), and more Anya. It also has some great episodes and ends strong overall.

I will never get tired of watching this show and it is the one I've seen the most (especially seasons 2 and 3). I got to relive the Star Wars stuff with my son which was great, but my daughter has 0 interest in it. I am secretly hoping I can rewatch Buffy yet again with her in a few years. Speaking of S2 and edibles, I am about to hit the great stretch of episodes and the two parter What's My Line? is up tonight.

I really thought this would be higher, given the nerd levels around here. I'm looking forward to seeing where the other major Whedon series shows up. I know if it were up to me, it wouldn't be for quite a while.

Winger still blames Beavis and Butthead for their downfall.
Not their bad music and singing about 17 year old girls?
Have you seen ads for their current casino run? Few things are creepier than long-haired 60-somethings belting out "She's only seven-teeen!"

I need to rewatch Buffy. I don’t do that often for long shows, but it definitely warrants it. It's an absolute roller coaster of emotions, as KarmaPolice said. The cheese factor adds to the appeal for me. I love it. It should be much higher.

It’s from Mike and the Mad Dog who sometimes would read the movie section on Fridays to decide if they would see a movie over the weekend for some reason. Compelling radio.

Mike: you gonna see Daredevil
Dog: what’s that
Mike: (reading description) A blind lawyer, with his other senses super humanly enhanced, fights crime as a costumed superhero
Dog: True Story?
Mike: (annoyed) No, it’s fiction!

You didn't expect this one to make an appearance?
Just didn't expect to be anyone's #1 let alone 4 top 20s

What sort of heartless ******* doesn't love Willow? :<_<:
Maybe she's great, but I can't make it 15 seconds in the room when she speaks. Someone mentioned they can't stand the Iranian actress from The Expanse (and most other shows), but I think she's great... these things happen.

I doubt The Nanny is going to show up, but if it did, imagine the discussions about Fran Drescher's voice.

Hating on a persons favorite show is wild
hating </> disagreeing

I wouldn't hate on anyone here, just voicing an opinion.
Not saying this was your intention, but it comes off like you’re questioning people’s “man cards” for liking shows with female protagonists. The same thing happened with Gilmore Girls.
Sorry, not how I meant it and my fault if that's how I come off at times. That's on me

PS, I'd downvote Gilmore Girls just because of that guy wearing his hat backwards all the time :hot:

I had no idea she was in Buffy. Normally, she sounds just fine. There, she sounds like she got hit in the head with a hammer. That's a no for me.

I didn't take offense I, I probably would give a double take as well, especially if I thought it was cheesy or unexpected. I had a similar reaction when I saw Gilmore and Golden Girls pop up, or shows I find very unfunny get top spots. Not that I think they are terrible shows (never seen them), it's just not what I would expect from the source. Also didn't think it was a shot at shows with female protagonists, that didn't even enter my mind. I think in lines of demographics and I think it's fair to say that Buffy "codes" teen show geared towards females and Golden girls for my mom's demographic. Not middle aged mostly male football fans. That's how I took it.

I also can admit that it's cheesy, so I think the other part of the reaction is that people might question why somebody could have it over the greats we will see at the top - a few will also be in my top 10 I'm sure. I embrace the cheesiness of the fighting and makeup. It's tv, and we can say that about many beloved shows. That's why I made my case talking about the humor, characters, and acting. That's what draws people into great shows and makes them embrace or tolerate the warts. Early episodes Zander is obnoxious. I find David Boreanaz as Angel to be quite bad as well. He is reason I keep stalling out on getting through my favorite show's spin off despite people telling me it gets to the highs of Buffy later. My favorite character of the show is also the rare adult and father figure of the show, so something like that might boost rewatches for people our age that could be seeing it through that lens or with that focus. By the time Giles isn't around Angel is gone, Zander has Anya, and the acting and some of the cheesiness improves as well.

I also understand the comments about Willow, but that has never occurred to me with her personally. I do have that reaction with Aghdashloo and Roseanne Barr. The Expanse has way more characters. If it was an Avasarala spin off show, no way I would be watching.

I mean, I had Supernatural at 3 and it BARELY cracked the top 300. It just feels so weird given that I guarantee you
The Boys
is top 20 and they feel so similar tone wise to me but that might be because they are both Kripke things. Even that is starting to go downhill though.

Did you guys just not watch it or something?

I’ve just never been able to get in to any vampire, mummy, zombie shows - we have some really good friends of ours that tried to get us to watch Buffy and I just can’t do it. The genre just isn’t for me.

Vampire shows to often trend towards that teenage Twilight genre. Penny Dreadful was a really really good and dark vampire plus show that rocked.

I'm not drawn to vampire shows, but American Horror Story: Hotel and Salem's Lot (1979) had some vampires in it, and I liked them. I saw some of True Blood and liked it, but I didn't see all of the seasons. As for Buffy, I've never seen it, and I wasn't familiar with the WB channel or shows that aired on it during that time. I had heard of Buffy, but that's about it.

The Iranian actress isn't, it's just a similar thing where some actors can be an instant no for someone. For me it's Willow, who thankfully isn't in every sci-fi and fantasy series like the Iranian actress is.

Yes, and for similar reasons why people probably didn't watch Buffy - it's lumped into a more pg-13 type show and demographic. Not all the shows I am thinking about are from the WB, but very much that feel. I have seen episodes here and there of most of them - Supernatural, Roswell, Smallville, Dawson's to name a few. Most I have been pleasantly surprised by their quality. I have no doubt people would love those shows like I do Buffy. I could just never commit to a new watch of any of these now. That is a lot of seasons and most were 22 episode seasons. I would rather rewatch one I know I love or take the risk on a show like Severence is new or another that only has 8-10 episode seasons.

I might go back and edit my Buffy post and/or make another to do this as well. Maybe what we should do with some of these shows is recommend a handful of specific episodes for people. I'd watch a couple episodes of Gilmore Girls or Supernatural (if I have streaming access) to get a better context of what people love about them. Staring at S1E1 of a 15 season show with 22 episodes is a much tougher ask.

100 - Psych - My daughters loved this show and I'd watch it with them sometimes. Fun, but nowhere close to being a favorite for me. I did enjoy seeing Corbin Bernsen back on a regular series.

99 - The Daily Show - I enjoyed it when it first came out and thought John Stewart was great. But I haven't seen an episode in 20 years.

98 - Flight of the Conchords - I remember hearing about this when it came out, I just never saw it.

97 - Mary Tyler Moore - 32 on my list. It interesting that the 6 of us who ranked it all had it in our top 30 or so. The show gives me great memories of childhood, I love the theme song, and the characters were all memorable. Even though it was a "women's lib" show at the time, it still stands up today on its own.

96 - Looney Tunes/Bugs Bunny - This was my number 1 ranked show. Enough said. If I were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring one show, give me this one please.

95 - Buffy - I never saw an episode, I guess I thought it was a show for teen girls. I'm not saying it was or judging, I'm just saying I never watched it because that was my perception at the time.

94 - WKRP - I thought about adding this one, but it wasn't a big favorite in my house growing up, so I don't have that nostalgia factor and I haven't watched it in reruns.

93 - Beavis and Butthead - Again, I thought of putting this one on the top 75, and in retrospect, it should've made my list. My favorite vignette was the one where they finally saw Judas Priest's "Breaking the Law" video and they were so excited at first, but then they were like, "You know, I still like Judas Priest and everything, but this really sucks." I wonder if they ever said "Breaking the Law" again after that episode? Breaking the Law

92 - Daredevil - I haven't seen any episodes. I don't really watch any of the superhero shows (other than Greatest American Hero, which should be showing up somewhere in the top 20, right???)

A college buddy pointed out that they used the tune when they washed Mr. Anderson's poodle and singing "Washin' the dog, washin' the dog" and called them out for their hypocrisy.
