The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 2: Seinfeld 1: Breaking Bad (32 Viewers)

I like Family Guy but it was never appointment television for me. I liked the Boys at first but got bored with it and stopped.

I probably ranked this higher than i should have.
It can be quite mean spirited, but uproariously funny at times which is why i gave it a higher ranking.
Peter Griffin ain’t no Homer Simpson.

Peter Griffin ain’t no Homer Simpson.
Who is, right? If The Simpons isn’t top 20 here, I’ll be completely flummoxed.
I had Family Guy over the Simpsons.

I found it more cleverly written and diverse. Felt like the Simpsons just hammered on the "stupid American" angle too much.

My sister said when she lived in France, they literally thought Americans were mostly like the Simpsons, which probably soured me on it a bit through the years.

does anyone remember the first cartoon that paved the way for Family Guy?

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

I've said elsewhere that I place a high premium on TV and movies that give me multiple emotions through the series and episodes. Yes, this show is a bit cheesy - look past that. (or have an edible and laugh even harder at the bad stunt work as Buffy morphs into a ripped 35 year old would a few inches taller than her, it works well for that too). This is a show that still makes me laugh multiple times in an episode on top of the drama and creeps. Yes, it makes me cry in episodes. Prom and the episode The Body come to mind right away. It has actual scares too - Hush is really creepy (and also really funny). Yes, I even like the episode that is a musical.

All that said, what sets it apart is the actors and characters. Like @B Maverick we have had pets named after characters. Giles is probably my favorite character - I love the Britishness and heart that Anthony Stewart Head brought to the character. We had a guinea pig named Giles and my cat that passed a couple years ago was officially named Dr. Rupert Fluffenstein, but Ripper is what I called him. Hannigan as Willow, despite having a voice that makes Tick want to kick a kitten, is another highlight for me. It does fall off a bit after the fanstastic Season 2/Season 3 back to back. A lot of the best characters come and go in those seasons - Oz, Faith, Jenny Calendar, the principals, Kendra to name a few. Still, the back half of the series still features more Willow, more Spike (way better than Angel), and more Anya. It also has some great episodes and ends strong overall.

I will never get tired of watching this show and it is the one I've seen the most (especially seasons 2 and 3). I got to relive the Star Wars stuff with my son which was great, but my daughter has 0 interest in it. I am secretly hoping I can rewatch Buffy yet again with her in a few years. Speaking of S2 and edibles, I am about to hit the great stretch of episodes and the two parter What's My Line? is up tonight.
:goodposting:

My sister tried to start watching it recently but got stuck for a long time on S1E4 Teacher's Pet. She just couldn't get past the teacher being a praying mantis. Kept telling her S1 has only a few eps worth watching and is not only uneven but some eps are really bad. But if you can get to the end of S1 and into S2 the show picks up. I think she was about to get into What's my Line 1 and 2 and enjoying a little more.

Seasons 2, 3, and 5 are great followed by 4 and 7. 1 is hard to get through but only 12 episodes. S6 has some fun in it and a solid ending, but overall its not a good season either.

I mean, I had Supernatural at 3 and it BARELY cracked the top 300. It just feels so weird given that I guarantee you
The Boys
is top 20 and they feel so similar tone wise to me but that might be because they are both Kripke things. Even that is starting to go downhill though.

Did you guys just not watch it or something?
We are in the middle of S11 of Supernatural and it has just become boring. We want to finish it but its hard to get through more then an ep or two at a time. The last few seasons have the same arguments, same arc/different monster and kind of lost the fun.

"Paved the way" how? Cartoons designed for adults? Broadcast during prime time? Both of those answers are The Flintstones.

Fleabag is one of the best written comedies of all time. 86 seems like an insult.

If we were doing an all time TV episode list, the episode at the restaurant would be top 10 for sure.

Fleabag was as perfect as a TV comedy could be. The first season was great. The second was a work of art.

I can only assume this low rating is due to not enough people seeing it.

And from a crowd so vehemently supportive of Gilmore Girls and Buffy, that is a surprise.

Chiklis was off the charts great in this, at least IMO.

The show was fine, but I don’t understand why the guy has to pretend to be psychic. Why can’t he just be honest about being super observant and having great instincts like Sherlock Holmes? I don’t get the premise.
In the pilot he was calling in tips to solve crimes and he did it so many times they brought him in for questioning because they thought he was in on the crimes. He tried saying he just figured them out by watching the news and they didn't believe him so he faked the psychic visions as the reason he was able to solve the crimes. After that he couldn't back out of it.

Fleabag was phenomenal, but come on. It's just 12 episodes in total. I wouldn't have ranked this on my top 100 just due to the sample size.

More episodes than, say, Band of Brothers, so I guess that doesn't deserve a good ranking either?
Wouldn't have been on my list, no.

What's the minimum number of episodes a series has to have to count?

Sorry I fail to understand why this is even a criteria for ranking. I can understand not ranking if a show isnt completed yet and only has a few episodes. But a completed show is a completed show, you have everything you need to be able to judge it's ranking, IMO.

The King of late night. I only put one late night talk host on my list though(No, I wasn't the guy that put Fallon). I'm having second thoughts about that questionable decision.

I'm a Gilmore Girls fan, but have not watched Fleabag. I can enjoy shows with a strong female lead or female driven plots, but I have to actually watch it first.

I feel like the ranking of Larry Sanders and Fleabag was hurt by me not watching them- I am pretty sure I would love both shows. I like the bits I’ve seen a lot, just never sat down and commmitted.

Family Guy - eh, it has its moments but I lean more towards crap then good.

The Boys - I think it’s really good, hope they can stick the landing. Could see it climbing in my rankings depending on how it wraps up

Fleabag - it was fine, worth watching, especially for how short of a series it is

The Shield - probably one of the few highly regarded shows I never watched, not sure why, just don’t think I had the bandwidth for it when it originally aired
Does jt still hold up? Might get this one in the queue
