"The Voice" , new singing talent search show (1 Viewer)

I really liked the guy on Monday with the guitar who did the song by Seal. thought he was better than a lot of the people that have made it on to teams. I think he would have been great for Adam to work with.
He was the French teacher, right? I liked him, too. Probably at a disadvantage auditioning with the teams so close to full.

yes. if he would have gone early in the auditions, I think 3 coaches would have been fighting over him. kinda sucks, because he was good.

He was talented but he arranged the song very poorly. You were waiting for the energy to rise when the chorus hit instead it dropped. But I do agree he probably would have gotten through had he gone earlier.

Toooooooo freakin many! My god, 16 per team is too ### #### much! I'm finally caught up (because I'm not watching the stupid "Best of Blind Auditions"!!!)

with the background stories, practices, other BS, they only got through THREE sing-offs last night. and I thought American Idol moved slow. on the bright side, I always fast forward just to hear the performances, so each show only last about 7 minutes for me.

yeah, they are not even showing full battles anymore

>>>>[icon] - Your buddy been on yet?
CONFIRMED he is trying for next season. He actually just called me the other day from out in LA (I guess they get their phones at some points). He said it's been a real trip. They have them put up in big ### 1300 sq ft suites all at the same hotel. Said there is just an insane amount of talent strolling around (both musical and eye candy)... and they're not allowed to say anything about why they're there. IF they do... Gone. You can't leave the premises. There is a 9:30pm curfew and NO booze or drugs. If you get caught. Gone. IF you get booted.. you're on the hook for your flights, your food, your room (+$1000/night)...everything. There were a LOT of idiots getting booted/caught for anything from having a glass of wine with dinner, to ordering pot brownies from a dispensary to be delivered to the hotel. :lmao: He said it's a pretty crazy mind-#### regarding "Room 819" (The cut Room). There are guys walking around with headsets that will walk up to people at any point in time telling you to "Go to room 819". That means you're toast... and you best hurry. Often your flight is departing within an hour or so. Miss it and you're on the hook for the tab to get home. Sometimes they'll call you in the middle of the night. Sometimes it's a slip of paper under the door.... he said everyone was on edge. The final audition was 90 seconds in front of the producers and other show bigwigs. It's uber-sterile. No applause. Dark room with candles. You get no hint from them where you stand for days... mind####. I still can't say who he is whether he made it or not for obvious reasons. but I will say that the show went from 70k people trying out... to 205 flying out to LA....cut to 100 that made blind auditions.
All that for a singing competition?

This thread seemed to have died.

I heard from my buddy today. He's back in town for a bit before heading back to LA. :excited:

He had some pretty crazy stories... I have a feeling his life is about to change pretty dramatically.

Sooo...apparently Shakira (next season judge) is 100x hotter in person than she's appeared in the past. Word is she is an absolutely smoke show.

Few other tidbits....

• Team size will be reduced to 12 singers per "Coach" (so 48 total)

• 5 of the 48 finalists for next season were found via the random tryouts (out of 70k people). The other 43 were scouted/recruited by the coaches/producers/etc.

• Voting (once the show goes live) will be via iTunes Downloads (99c ea). Artists will receive 10c from each download.

• These guys/gals are running hectic schedules, needing to have hair/makeup done and on set by 5:15am during non-live filming. 9pm curfew with no drugs/alcohol allowed through duration.
There's more info I have been passed. but I can't share it right now. If you guys could avoid quoting my spoiler posts I'd appreciate it... in the event i need to delete any of this stuff.

They already count iTunes downloads in the voting, but also allow phone votes and text votes. You saying they'll JUST do iTunes downloads going forward? I don't see that happening...

I read she and Blake can't understand a word coming out of each others mouth.
Her accent is confirmed VERY tough to understand.
My buddy couldn't understand her when she said some stuff that, if it makes air, will be pretty ####### entertaining.

I would surprise me too so I'm guessing that my buddy has that part wrong. I didn't know it was already factored in so My guess is that it will continue to be a part of the equation rather than the whole deciding factor. Agreed ONLY accepting paid votes would be horrible.

This show has done a poor job of hyping their singers. Or maybe there are just too many of them.

I can name all of the X Factor acts, but there were 2 Voice singers last week that I swear I've never seen before.

Gotcha. I guess the takeaway from your buddy's info is that the artists get a cut of the iTunes sales...which is pretty cool.

They had way to many. Going back to 12 will be better. Hope they keep the judges steal part in.

There are too many. Sixteen per team was overkill. But X Factor over-hypes everything. The contestants. The judges.....Now that the shows are live and audience b=vote, it will be easier to keep track. Glad to see they are only doing audience voting instead of splitting it with the judges like they did the last two years.

How many people make it to live shooting? just out of curiosity. Again, i'm pretty ignorant about this show overall.

It was 20 this year. Each of the 4 coaches had a team of 5 at the first live show last week. They then cut it down to 12 for last night's show (2 gone from each team).

I've been down on this show but I just watched Mondays performances and I think that was the best voice I have ever seen. All 10 were excellent highlighted for me by Nick David and Melanie.

Melanie has something about her. Any time I hear that lights song, I think of her performance rather than Eli Goulding. I hope she makes it through. That version of 7 nation army was awesome.

Yeah it was good. Except the Persian chick.

I agree, but it has nothing to do with her voice. She's 17, artsy, and bats a mean eyelash, but her vocal range is pretty limited. Amanda Brown, on the other hand, is far and away the best vocal talent in this competition.

I can't stand Melanie. Her soft out of tune voice sucks and she's unattractive. If she ever makes a record, will she really whimper 10-14 songs and expect people to buy her music?

Feel bad that her parents couldn't get her braces. Her rendition of "Toxic" was really good everything since has been meh.

Trevin is a superstar. Once they get ahold of him and get him into shape like Carrie Underwood.
This week was the first week where I didn't think he was great. Amanda Brown is talented but boring. There is just something about Melanie. Can't stand Cody but he was awesome this week.Dez is there because of the young girl vote, that is all.Cassidee jumped Trevin as a favorite IMO.Terry has really disappointed me since being high on him early.Nicholas is just awesome.

I have never agreed with a post more than this in the history of ever.

Going over some of these folks on YouTube I gotta say I'm a little disappointed in the talent level on this show... some great raw talent but not much polish. Cassidee: Not bad. A looker. VERY Shrill... lacks any steadyness to her voice. (Just watched torn / hazel eyes). Perhaps there's another performance I should see?NIcholas: This ####er can sing. Sadly he's a homely ####er and no way this show lets him be the face of the winner. Melanie: Good but not great voice... lacks power. (cough syrup) Hit the Road Jack suited her breathy, cabaret style (but still lacked any real punch). I've heard dozens of lounge/karaoke singers on her level. I'm open to links to better samples if their work if Im just listening to the wrong crap (which is very possible since I'm a ####### when it comes to this stuff :lmao: )If this is representative of the talent on next season my boy is going to do very, very well I think.

I agree with all of the above also, except I just don't get Nicholas.
He's probably my favorite. But I can see how people don't get him; I don't get Melanie.I think his best performance was the "She's Gone" in the battle round. I don't think he's gotten back to that level since.

Trevin's too shy and humble to really show off.

Amanda really caught my attention this week. She was fantastic vs. Trevin but since that time I haven't liked any of her performances. Didn't understand the love for her take on Dream On. Her version of Stars was incredible. Best performance of the night.

I dig Melanie. She's cute, too.

Cody needs to go. Alright guy, you're gay. We get it. But please curb the flamboyance. He needs to stop trying to be something his talent doesn't fit. He's not really a pop superstar. He's no Adam Lambert. Stop acting like it. He's got a great voice but he needs to freakin' sing a song and stop trying to dance his way through every showtune. 'Jolene' was the only time I haven't hated him.

Nicholas ####### rocks. He's got some killer pipes, gives songs his own touch, and is likeable. Really love this guy and have even searched for a few of his songs on youtube. I'll check out his album when it debuts. By far my favorite.

Dez...ugh. Terrible. Terrible, terrible, terrible. He started off doing a solid job of Nina Simone this past week then slaughtered the song. Hope he goes home asap. I'm all for giving pretty people a bit more leeway but he's not even close to being as talented as the others.

Cassidee. Still barely know who she is. I have yet to hear a performance that really made me pay attention.

Trevin has the best voice in the competition but I really disliked his cover of Usher. Thought it was a bad pick. Yeah, he has the voice/talent to make it work but imo it's not his wheelhouse. But he's still a teenager and kids make stupid decisions.

There's some other chick still in this, right?

Dude whose dad is in a band. He's not bad but generally doesn't do it for me. I like gravelly voices but there's just something missing for me.

Terry has such a clean voice but imo is paired up with the wrong judge. Cee-lo would be able to give him some popular rock songs that fit him better. Blake is doing him wrong.

Speaking of Cee-lo, he seems to find more hidden gems than the others. I missed season 1, but from last season and this, there have been a couple artists that emerged as major talents who only got one chair to turn. Kudos to Cee-lo.

Also, it seems he and Christina tend to pick the best songs for their contestants. Adam and Blake tend to pick a lot of songs that leave me thinking "uhm...why?"

I haven't watched the eliminations so hopefully a few of the lousier voices (cough, Dez) will go home.

You realize that the little girls with cell phones will never let this happen right?
Probably. But he's still terrible. I can understand good looking people with inferior but comparable voices holding their own or even winning. This guy isn't remotely close to the remaining singers. He'd probably kill at local karaoke contests and should be able to carve out a crappy Buble type career in the industry. But he's soooo much worse than everyone left and he just took a massive dump on an extraordinary song. I may not like all the singers but can hear their talent and completely understand why they're still in this. Dez is becoming that Indian dude from American Idol of a few years back.

I don't think they can do as much damage as for Idol because of the limits on voting, but who knows. What does everyone think of Terry? I liked him at first, but now I just think he is caught in a time warp. Simon Cowell would say he belongs in a 70s cover band in a bar.

I think there is a clear separation between the top 4 and bottom 4 among those remaining:

Top 4 (no particular order): Amanda, Cassidy, Cody, Nick

Bottom 4 (no particular order): Melanie, Trevin, Terry, Dez

They are really dragging this thing out by taking three hours per week to eliminate two contestants... just cut to the chase already.

Agree. Sad part is your bottom 4 will most likely donate the top 4

Think Trevin is definetly in the top 4 and could see Melanie going further then she should. Would love to hear Terry do a Muse song. Cee-Lo also needs to stop giving Trevin played-out ballads. Ballads are fine but Trevin coming off like this American Idol ten years ago. Still like Trevins' chances.Like Nick but he and Cody are not safe IMO.

Tier 1 - All around talented: Amanda, Cassidy, NickTier 2 - Very strong but not getting help from their coaches: Trevin, TerryTier 3 - Good but quirky/niche-y: Cody, MelanieTier 1,000,000,000 - teh suck: Dez

I thought they were all pretty meh last night. Melanie is pretty much a one trick pony, it shows more and more each week. She's only 17 and will improve but not ready yet. Terry and Trevin starting to trend in the one trick direction also. Cody and Dez = Turrible

Amanda, Casidy and Nick are my top 3, Nick being my favorite

I predict Melanie and Cody go home tonight
