I read the first page and then skipped to the last. I was out of town for a week, and I've only watched the 4 episodes on my laptop.
Huge fan of the books. I've read them 3 times so far. I can see why people have trouble starting them because of Jordan's writing style, but 4-7 are some of the best books in fantasy (yes, 7 starts to drop off). 8 and 9 are pretty meh, and 10 is forgettable. I might not ever read 10 again. It's nice Jordan was able to come through with book 11, and while Sanderson made mistakes, he nailed it with so many scenes and mostly with the finish (one big complaint). Book 10 was his worst, but it also has one of my favorite scenes which I won't even get remotely specific on because it's one of the best reveals of the series.
First 20 minutes of the show made me want to turn it off. The show runner wanted more episodes for the first season, and he had to assign an intern just to handle all of the "suggestions" execs were giving him, so I'm giving him a break. I knew there would be changes to the books, but I was pretty annoyed they didn't set up the characters more in the beginning, and the way they left was hasty and didn't make as much sense. I was a little annoyed with the Perrin change as well as Rand and Egwene already banging, but those were minor. Really hated what they did to Mat's parents.
I think they're started to hit their stride towards the end of the first episode and continued to build it well through 3. I really loved most of Ep 4, but that scene with Nynaeve at the end was just wrong. From the previews and some of the foreshadowing, I think they're about to do something which will once again have me pissed. I don't know how sketchy people are with book discussion of the show, but there are just some people who should not end up in Tar Valon, especially right now, and we already know from the previews one of them will end up there (Moiraine).
I do disagree with people who say it couldn't have been done in a more GOT style with nudity and violence, but it just isn't as dark of a story as GOT. It is more of a LOTR vibe from an overall perspective because it's just not as gritty and ruthless.
If it hasn't been covered, they only have 8 seasons planned for the series.
