- there goes my drink all over my screen....well done as always. Our piss beer is better than yours!!!I lean towards classifying that as a microbrew. As far as macrobrews, I give this to Canada. Off the top of my head, Molson and Labatt's would run circles around Bud and Miller.
all of my Canadian buddies drink Budweiser. I opt for the Canadian. These were the first two I thought of.
We have a winner!Canada has hairier beavers than American beavers. FACT
It's just thick hamWhat is sold as Canadian bacon in the states is basically ham and I don't think many people eat that up here, outside of Egg Mcmuffins. This is real Canadian bacon: http://www.foodnetwork.ca/shows/great-canadian-cookbook/blog/the-history-of-canadian-peameal-bacon/ It's delicious.
We lived in Toronto for a few years. It's different than ham, but not different like bacon is different. It's just thick ham![]()
Like 15 years ago I worked with a Canadian company and was talking about their ####ty Canadian bacon and this guy kept talking up peameal bacon and how it was so much better and I got it as a burger topping and told him it was just fried ham and nowhere near as good as real baconWe lived in Toronto for a few years. It's different than ham, but not different like bacon is different.
Anyway, I liked it.
What's so superior about the strip clubs? These were the first two I thought of.
Back when i was a kid you could only get salt n vinegar chips in canada and they were awesomeAnd dill pickle chips. I love dill pickle chips.
I think most are full nude plus serve alcohol... I think in USA its different for each state but not too common as far as I knowWhat's so superior about the strip clubs?
It's not illegal for the girls to finish you off in Quebec. Or it wasn't at one point. I lived there 20 years ago. What's so superior about the strip clubs?
I live in Canada and this is pretty accurate.Molson/ Labatt >> Bud/Miller etc and it's not close
Canadian healthcare is great if you really need it (transplant/cancer etc) but not so great if your situation isn't life threatening (acl repair for example). US healthcare is awesome if you have good insurance but terrible if you're uninsured or have crappy insurance.
Justin Trudeau is a ####### embarrassment. He's completely unqualified.
The above are my opinions as someone who was born in Canada but has lived in the US for almost 25 years. I'm late to the thread but happy to opine on almost anything.
Absolutely false. Not saying it didn't happen just that it's not legal and never has been. It's not illegal for the girls to finish you off in Quebec. Or it wasn't at one point. I lived there 20 years ago.
Kokanee is a good lager. Disagree with you re: Molson Canadian though.I live in Canada and this is pretty accurate.
Except that Molson Canadian is horrible. Budweiser is better.
Kokanee is less objectionable than Molson/Bud and the like but it's pretty watery IMO. I'll take Blue over the lot but I lean pilseners. If Canadian and Bud are the only options, I usually just don't drink.Kokanee is a good lager. Disagree with you re: Molson Canadian though.
There's a surprise.I'm late to the thread but happy to opine on almost anything.
Regarding the beer discussion, anyone who thinks Canadian beer is better than US beer needs to spend some time in San Diego. San Diego alone produces better beer than any other country in the world, and it's not close. Stone, Ballast Point, Sierra Nevada, Green Flash, Modern Times, etc.

As opposed to the current President of the USA who is qualified for the job?Molson/ Labatt >> Bud/Miller etc and it's not close

There's great beer from San Diego. Saying it's better than any other country's in the world is a ridiculous, asinine, (trolling) statement.Anyone who laughs at this doesn't like beer.![]()
Completely agree (and made that point with Thunderlips up thread). But I suppose there is a reason their sports have finals that are "world series" or "super bowls" despite being largely domestic leagues...Plus, American breweries are pretty #### at a lot of styles of beer. Sure they rule IPA's and bourbon barrel aged whatever, but there are a lot of English and Belgian influenced styles or German/Czech influenced lagers where by and large the US craft breweries are far inferior to Canadian breweries, let alone the European ones who mastered the styles.
The hipster beer snob thing about trying to make IPAs as hoppy and bitter as possible is so ####ing stupid. I pretended to like that kind of beer when I was an a$$hole in my early 20s too...25 years ago.Plus, American breweries are pretty #### at a lot of styles of beer. I was with you all the way until Tiger Beer. Saigon FTWThe hipster beer snob thing about trying to make IPAs as hoppy and bitter as possible is so ####ing stupid. I pretended to like that kind of beer when I was an a$$hole in my early 20s too...25 years ago.
Making a really good and balanced lager is harder than making some ####ty trendy beer as bitter as possible. I have had some really good US microbrew lagers in restaurants, but my local grocery store has a beer aisle that is 100 feet long, 75% of which is various microbrews, and there isn't a single US microbrew lager in it. But there are dozens and dozens of IPAs.
I'll take a good German lager or Tiger beer over any of that crap.
Good stuff. I didn't realize the difference in conditioning time, but I follow the business aspects completely.I was with you all the way until Tiger Beer. Saigon FTW![]()
I can tell you why there aren't many microbrew lagers, though - cold hard cash.
In two ways:
1) A lager (and almost to the same extent a pilsner) takes a long time to finish brewing. The word Lager in this context in German means to stock or to store. After the fermentation is over you typically have to store the beer for 30 (Pilsen) to 45 (Lager) days to finish off the taste - and this is generally done before bottling/kegging. An ale (non cask) would take a week, maybe two. So by brewing a Lager you tie up your assets (conditioning tank) for 3 to six times longer than when brewing an ale.You are either creating a bottleneck or you need to have an "underutilized" extra asset (another (set of) conditioning tank(s)) in your brewhouse if you want to have a lager in your line up. Either of which is added cost which you can't recuperate because you can't charge extra for the lager compared to your pale ale, stout or IPA.
2) A lager competes directly with the industrials (like Tiger, Budweiser Stella Artois or even Saigon) in a way that your IPA or Weissbier does not. In the purchasisng moment people maybe tempted to choose the cheaper brand for the "same" product.
Which is why I brew my own! I can tell you how that turned out by Father's day...
The bit I never liked about Polar (in Venezuela) was the size of the bottle - 25 cl IIRC. You had to order a new one every five minutes...Good stuff. I didn't realize the difference in conditioning time, but I follow the business aspects completely.
I like Tiger a lot. I don't believe I have ever had Saigon, but will keep my eye out for it.
I also really like most Bavarian Lagers I have had. I used to be able to find Paulaner Lager at the beer store when I lived in Chicago, but in the PNW the only Paulaners I see regularly are Hefeweizen (GTFO with that crap), Salvatore (decent), and maybe a Dopplebock (solid).
Though it isn't high end, I also like Modelo Especial. It is decidedly a macro brew, but is a much better equivalent of a German Lager than any large scale beer brewed in the US.
I also rather liked Polar, but Venezuela.
I only had cans, they were the size of a can of tomato paste. The bit I never liked about Polar (in Venezuela) was the size of the bottle - 25 cl IIRC. You had to order a new one every five minutes...
If we weren't so busy making IPAs for ruined taste buds, we would have the best brew selection in the world.I think Dogfish Head could take on the entire Canadian Brewing world by itself and win hands down.
There's waaaayyyy to many mid level (yet nationally distributed) breweries in the United States for any other country to compete with.
Not a bad list. I'll add legalized weed, hookers, and strip clubs and maybe even the best of the best of punk-ish rock right now with ####ed Up! and Japandroids.1. National Anthem (yes)
2. Hockey (not in 1980 and that one year we won the World Cup in the nineties, eh?)
3. National Symbol. Maple Leaf >>>> Bald Eagle (yes)
4. Maple Syrup
5. The use of the word eh
6. Curling ()
Yep.Dan Lambskin said:I think most are full nude plus serve alcohol... I think in USA its different for each state but not too common as far as I know
Like in Michigan we have totally nude strip clubs with no alcohol or topless only that serve alcohol (although you can usually talk the girls into showing you their #####)
I remember being in Chicago one time an the girls were topless but had to wear like clear silicone over their nipples
I think some states might still require pasties, etc
I like beer Sierra Nevada is good...... but Ill laugh at you non-the-lessJust Win Baby said:Anyone who laughs at this doesn't like beer.![]()
Unibroue is pretty ####### good too.brasserie dieu du ciel (montreal) is the best brewery in North America, and it's not a debate.
Are you talking about emergency rooms or something? For a doctor visit, I go to a brand new clinic, get seen almost immediately, get referred for anything I need elsewhere and all of it is free. There's a full time nurse practitioner in the office who my wife deals with for girl stuff. I have psoriasis so I have been through a fair number of clinics and always had good experiences.Canadian health care sucks, it is one of the worst fallacies that we perpetuate as being so amazing about Canada.
They are all basically government employees. Picture your experience at the DMV. Now imagine that is your health care experience.
It's my favourite brewery. Peche Mortel is probably my #1 favourite beer.brasserie dieu du ciel (montreal) is the best brewery in North America, and it's not a debate.
