Things everyone should know, but somehow they don't. (1 Viewer)

had two cars go through a 4-way stop on me over lunch today.

car to my right waiting as i rolled up. i stop. car to my right proceeds through, he's halfway through the intersection, i let off the brake to get rolling and the 2nd car in line to my right decides he'll just go on ahead and punch the gas to cut me off.

fun
you need to t-bone that guy out of principle......I drive a large SUV with a ton of insurance so that would never fly -  :football:

I appreciate that you said "usually", and I would certainly trust you, as I can tell from your posting that you're obviously a sharp guy. But as a programmer that has worked in heavily-lawyered industries (mortgage lending, bankruptcy and currently insurance), I have run into more than my fair share of experienced dolts. Without any knowledge about a given attorney, I'd probably go with the google search.

Stopping two car-lengths behind someone at a red light and then creeping up to the appropriate distance over the next minute serves no real purpose other than to let other drivers know your lips move when you read.

Merging. Noone can merge anymore at the top of a highway ramp.

JUST STEP ON THE FN GAS!!!!!
Yes... I'm usually going 45-50 by the time I'm about to enter the highway. ####... There's a ramp to the I-190 that is probably 1000 ft, straight, downhill. I'm going 70 by the time I merge

#### I'm at least going 70 by the time I am off the ramp, I'm ready to join traffic.

As a corollary the people who slow down to 40 before getting off on a long, empty off ramp are just as infuriating.  You know you can actually exit the interstate at 70 and have tons of road to slow down, right, dip####?

How to drive a stick (pretty high bar there maybe, but at least conceptually).
How to back up a trailer/boat.

I think I wrote maybe 3 checks in my life. What's the point of those things anyway?
To put you in a murderous rage when the lady in front of you at the grocery needs to pay that way.

It's fine by me that this is a somewhat dying skill.  I've got a stick and I'm sure the odds of someone trying to steal it go down every year.
My race car is a stick - The first and usually second heat i am a rookie again.  By the end of the day i am back in the saddle though.  To heck with a stick in any decent size city, way too much work.

ETA:  any one that wants lessons in SO CAL is welcome to come and try it out.  By me a beer and i will laugh my ### off while you try to figure out the race clutch

Mine does--and changing it would be easy if it didn't take a frigging mechanic to actually get to the spare that is mounted in an impossible to reach area deep in the undercarriage of the rear of the car.   Needless to say--I'll be phoning AAA should I ever need to use it.
This. Many of them drop from underneath the car now. I had to change a tire on our Sienna in a ####### snow storm and crawl under the car to drag the ####### spare out from underneath it.

Its amazing people dont know that driving takes years off your life because of all the road rage and complaining about other drivers.

No way.  Too much entertainment in watching people at the boat launch.  We used to fish in the early morning and be back by 10 am.  Then we'd sit in lawn chairs off the side of the launch, drink beer and watch the disasters happen.

That is your punishment for driving a Sienna.   On the bright-side at least you know how to change a tire. and it sounds like you saved your family some heart ache.  I can't tell you how many times i have pulled over to help some one out.  Girls, generally speaking, have zero clue.  Guys that don't know how to do this just amaze me.

It's the exact same knot you likely use to tie your shoes.  You're just doing it on your neck.  I've won money tying one blindfolded - for some reason people think it's difficult.
Seriously? Tying any tie, while blindfolded, it's very easy

Not only is she going to pay that way, she's going to piss you off even more when she waits until the entire order has been rung up and bagged before she even pulls the checkbook out of her purse to start filling it in.  And then she'll sit there and hold everyone up while she enters it into her register too.

I almost lost my bacon once when some lady did this.

We may have grown up at the same boat launch.  One thing I can thank my dad for was teaching me how to do this.  Baller life skill.

Every ####### time.  I know I'm a discriminatory #######, but I'll get behind 3 guys in line before getting behind one 50 year old woman.

This is one of those life skills that is growing less and less important due to technology - the "run-flat" tires and similar products. Many of the newer electric cars don't include a spare of any sort due to weight concerns. The BMW i3 hasn't included a spare for several years now, but has an inflator/pump that includes a sealant.
My link

I'm 57.  I have my store card and debit card ready to go when I reach the cashier.  The last time this happened to me, it was some old fart who couldn't swipe a card.  Ghah.

Some of us have places to be and can't wait an hour for Jim Bob to show up and do it for us. :P
I had never changed a spare tire before a few years ago. I understood the concept, but never had to do it.

Then I got a severe blowout near the summit of Blewett Pass in Central Washington. No cell service, half an hour (at highway speeds) from the nearest "town", and despite it being a Friday afternoon in the summer, cars were only coming past only occasionally.

I learned real fast.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but how about board and un-board from a plane with a semblance of efficiency and purpose?

Regular business travelers know how to do this, but for people who fly only occasionally, it seems like it would be easier for them to solve a Rubik's cube. Blindfolded.

Your have until March 15 to claim FSA expenses from the previous year. There is no deadline for claiming HSA expenses.

so there's nothing wrong with it for the people that do it, it just makes you work?

No, that's really not it at all.  It's like showing up to an empty restaurant 2 mins before close.  Technically I could do it, but I have basic human consideration for the employees so I don't.
