Things Other People Do That You Just Don't Understand (1 Viewer)

A serious one - to this day and probably forever I don't understand people using their children as weapons in a divorce. It just boggles my mind. Hate your spouse and want a divorce, fine. You really need to mentally torture your 5 year old at the same time?
Out of curiosity, what percentage of the time is this done by the husband vs. the wife?

I could use all my likes for the day in this thread.

One more...and this is my wife...

-I don't understand people who can't decide what they want to buy in a store, so they just buy everything and say, "I'll take it home and decide, and return the rest later."
I'm currently out of likes or would have used several in this thread. The second bolded has to be a female thing that I don't get. Buy what you know you are going to like. I guess it's another reason to go shopping.
My wife does this and I totally get it. She buys ten pieces of clothing, maybe tries them on at the store but doesn't agonize over the decision. Then she gets out of there quickly, and can decide what she wants to keep when she gets home. She tries on her stuff with other clothes to see if it matches, and only keeps the one or two things she really likes. That's a better educated decision than I ever make on clothes, and she spends less time in the mall. Even better when she buys stuff online.

you guys all know this but i'll never understand why people wait in line for overpriced inferior food when right next door is a better alternative at a better price with half the line. actually, i do understand. it's because people are stupid and lazy in general.

i also dont understand why people buy certain cars that are always at the bottom of car rankings. like why do people buy nissans or jeeps or chryslers? do people wake up one morning and say "yeah! I just have to go out and buy the most unreliable, fuel inefficient, ugly ### car I can find!"?

Its great with sites that give you free returns

A few of the many off the top of my head:

An extension of the waiting in line arena:

(1) I have never ever ever understood the whole waiting in line to get into a club or bar deal, so that I can eventually be let in to a place where I am packed like a sardine

(2) People who will wait for 3-10 minutes in a parking lot aisle for a family to reach their car, unload their stuff, return the cart, etc. so they can get a closer parking spot when they could have simply parked 20 yards away and spent less than 60 seconds to walk into the store.

(3) Camping out for movies and Black Friday shopping deals (if you are a grown adult).

Everyone does it.I can't say if I see one sex do it more than the other.

Completely agree with #1 (even though I might have done it once or twice in college).

And #2 I have never understood. Particularly people who are waiting to park at the gym (you're going to spend the next 45-60 minutes exercising, why worry about how far you're going to walk across the parking lot?). My wife sometimes does this... she will complain about not finding time to work out (it's not always easy with a 2YO and 4YO), but if I park somewhere and a closer spot was available, I will hear about it from her. Personally, I'd rather walk the extra 50 feet, and park somewhere I can get out easily (avoid backing out, etc.).

Did #3 once... Never again. This was when my wife and I were newly married. We planned (the night before) to hit about 5-6 different stores that had good deals going on, but never made it past the first stop. We got some great deals (50-inch plasma for 1/2 price, basically), but the time spent was a killer. Not only did we wait 2 hours to get INTO the store, we waited another 2-3 hours to check out. It was basically an 8-hour trip to Wal-Mart.

Watch Nascar
Seriously? It's the best. Turn it on, everyone leaves the room in disgust. Make some wings and crack a beer. Watch the first few laps while I eat/drink...Take a 2 hour nap in the peace and quiet...engine noise puts me right to sleep. Wake up with about 15 laps to go...watch the wrecks. Watch the winner do a burn-out, and watch the wrecked drivers fight.

NASCAR is the best.

Those rankings are so subjective. Look at different lists and you'll see different cars. Ultimately, there's a reason for someone to buy each brand, or else we wouldn't have all those brands.

I have a Land Rover LR2, which ranks horribly, both from a model and brand perspective for most reliability rankings. I love it. Probably the all-around best car I've owned. Very functional, and a great deal for the price. If I based it just on reviews, I would've run the other way.

I guess I'm just with WDIK here...buy what you like. If you don't know if you like it, don't buy it...but I agree, it's a female thing.

I always laugh at my MIL. She's a CPA and SUPER cheap. She'll fight for hours over pennies. She files her tax returns as soon as she gets her W-2's b/c she "doesn't want to give the government a free loan," but she literally can't use her dining room table because it's covered with 4-month-old returns, tying up thousands in credit card charges...

I guess I just don't understand how life is that hard.
It's not something you want to 'understand' or need to if your life is fine. Ignorance of hardship and suffering is what we strive to achieve as a society. But go easy judging and looking down on those who do have hardships and deal with them in various ways.

My wife does this as well (only in B&M stores). She's always proud when we get the credit card statement "look there's $125 in credits from Macy's!" Of course I then point out that the previous month there was a $500 charge from Macy's.

Own a cat

Be sexually attracted to men

Watch stupid formulaic sitcoms

Vote

Go to church

Eat fast food on a regular basis

Take selfies constantly, and spend more time updating Facebook than actually living and enjoying the party/restaurant/concert etc.

That last one burns me up more than anything. If I ever completely lose it and punch my wife, that will likely be why.

This one goes way back for me. Before the whole selfie/recording/staring at their phone bits, I used to know people that would get so wasted before the concert started they were passed out during the actual music but still "they were there".

Living in the suburbs.
Living in the city.
I see the argument for both... Using NYC specifically:

City Pros - Commute (a guy like Oats prob goes back and forth door to door 12-14 hours a week, this is actually a fairly decent commute time for someone in this area as it could be much worse)... Being close to good food, restaurants, and basically having access to anything 24/7.

Suburb Pros - Better public schools, more bang for your buck for house and land.

#2 - I have one better. I see a lot of people that live no more than four or five blocks from the work out facility in the neighborhood where I live that actually drive up to do cardio on the treadmill or elliptical. Now in the harsh Minnesota winter, I can understand, but on a beautiful spring or summer day? WTF? These aren't old folk or people with a handicap sticker but young 20-30 year old kids/adults. The kicker is seeing these same people firing up cigarette after cigarette later that night at the local pub.

A lot of these would fall under "Things that inconsiderate people do" such as park in a handicap spot when you are clearly not disabled in any way.

I've never understood people who take themselves too seriously.

Vandalism. My small town has a nice park with fairly new/clean bathroom facilities. Once a year everything will get busted up in the bathrooms.

I can somewhat understand theft, but not wrecking stuff just to wreck it.

big ####### umbrella mother ####ers
I'm looking at a guy right now who has an umbrella so big it blocks his entire cube...He leaves it open after he comes in so it'll dry off and blocks half the cube aisle. Drives me nuts for so many reasons.
