Dude, I have what the people who tracked this for a living said was popular nationally in the US and The Smiths were not as popular as some think. If you listened to KROQ in L.A. you would have thought they had the top selling LP in the nation, but that is not reflected by the US charts at the time.
Strangeways, Here We Come did the best, but Cashbox had it peak at only #29, and Billboard at #55, which was modestly popular but not a huge hit.
