THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (1 Viewer)

And that was the end of the sentence. I said before that, which you edited out:

The Smiths were big in the UK but again, look at the discography to see how well those same releases fared in the US...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Smiths_discography
This is an awfully pedantic point. Who cares if Midwest housewives never heard of them. Among people who cared about music beyond the top 40, they were important.

Honestly if I knew my pick for The Smiths (which I am sorry I made now) would have gotten this reaction I would have gone with my fave from The Partridge Family that I have been saving (and it is an enhanced version!)

WAIT ...WUT.

Did you say the "ENHANCED VERSION"????

Really think you nailed it here.

Though it would be great if you were a bit more gentle with the plebs around here ...OK   :hifive:

Your pick was appreciated.  Your inability even to consider other experiences is not.  Music drafts are about discussion and learning.

Bring on Danny and the others!

I am willing to acknowledge other experiences, which I noted with their popularity here in L.A. But the bottom line is, despite being a darling of the indie alt music college crowd, their US fan base was not that big and while people can post their personal anecdotes about how everybody they knew in college loved them, that was simply not reflected in any sales figure of that time.

No one has disputed this.  So are we good?

I'm just kidding about everything, by the way. I like The Smiths just fine. And I have no opinion on how big they are and would prefer not to get involved with that.

The first time I heard them was on 120 Minutes with "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" Great song. Great lyrics. I never pursued it further, though, for some reason. Probably because Morrissey was too good looking for my self-esteem.

I don't know about you guys, but after the last draft and this one, my Youtube algorithm is ####ed.  It's all [redacted pop artists that I drafted in the last draft] and a bunch of god-awful pop music that I'm probably going to take in the back half of this.
Along those lines, my Youtube algorithm is busy trawling this very site and recommends bands I've merely clacked the keyboard about. It's sort of unnerving at times.

Yes, they have, they say that actual sales figures or what those who charted radio stations for what songs were actually being played were saying doesn't count - and that I am wrong but have nothing to dispute it with but anecdotal stories of what they and their friends were listening to at the time.

When I was doing my "listen to songs picked that I wasn't familar with" thing last night, when I would type the artist name into the Youtube search bar, one of the top 3 suggestions was always the name of the song in question, regardless of whether it was one of the artist's popular songs or not.

I've never put someone on ignore in the middle of a music draft. I am getting very close to changing that.

I'll take an little indie band here, some of you may know... but probably not.

4- Elvis Costello and the Attractions- Alison

so many tunes to take from him/them. I love Trust, and was tempted with my favorite- Strict Time. Then started leaning to What's So Funny about Peace Love and Understanding... but Alison just slays me as a perfect song and perfect encapsulation of EC. every time.
Good one.

I've had to take a few people off ignore because they ended up in music drafts!    It always felt weird.  But in each case (so far) I wasn't sorry I did and was happy to get to know something about them on a different level.

By the way, never got to really comment on your comments. Vampire Weekend is heavily influenced by Paul Simon, especially albums like Graceland, or his more "world music" endeavors. That was actually a knock on the band coming out of Columbia University. That they were preppy but were appropriating black music, much like Simon. In the end, they got a hall pass because they were so darn good, but that criticism was there.

As far as Daft Punk goes, I can see where you'd want to get drunk and do irresponsible things. Pretty grimy.

I like the Smiths.  Music snobs also like the Smiths.

Do I think they get too much attention along with a hand full of other music snob bands?  Absolutely.

Yeah, enhanced and may not have been done so legally, the drums from the original version were erased and then redone to give the song an extra punch.

Jeez, Pip, you almost had a Tyreek fumble but it bounced right back up into his arms while he was still moving.

wow.

I shared my experience and asked what others' experiences were in here.

take it as crappily as you will and have.

OK I'll pull the pin

4.24 - Taylor Swift - All Too Well (Ten Minute Version)

As a 40ish year old man, I obviously don't connect with any of Swift's early albums but I was blown away by 1989 which I consider her best album.  As a result, I would go with "Blank Space" as her best.

I also like Eephus' diverse selections in this draft, that is what I value most when selecting my inner circle of music snob friends.

Can we at least agree that "Girlfriend in a Coma" is one of the most ridiculous song titles ever?
It was the first song my Canadian friend tried to get me into. "You've never heard 'Girlfriend In A Coma,'" he asked.

That's true.

Hey, Pip or krista4, how does one handle that interrogative within the sentence when it aligns like that?

Hey, not Hill on that TD!
So funny because when I looked up from my computer, I thought it was Hill.

Apropos of nothing, If Patrick Mahomes had shown up the past four weeks like tonight, I'd be looking at a potential playoff in my main dynasty league. Instead, no dice.
