THIS IS THEIR BEST SONG! - Music Draft - Saturday Night's Alright for iFighting (9 Viewers)

No, I haven't, actually. I'll have to look it up. Do you have a link?

Dude, I have what the people who tracked this for a living said was popular nationally in the US and The Smiths were not as popular as some think. If you listened to KROQ in L.A. you would have thought they had the top selling LP in the nation, but that is not reflected by the US charts at the time.

Strangeways, Here We Come did the best, but Cashbox had it peak at only #29, and Billboard at #55, which was modestly popular but not a huge hit.

@rockactionSorry, no. And I tried to google it for you but all I get is that Surfin' bird video.

Planned to make some snarky Smiths comments but after reading the recent discussion not going to touch it.

Is this the one you were taking that might snipe me...or are there more?  :scared:

Great pick.  I don't think I could choose from his catalog.  I do have a particular fondness for Every Day I Write the Book and Welcome to the Working Week and Oliver's Army and the one you chose and Veronica and Peace Love and Understanding and...ok, this is ridiculous.
This is my personal favorite EC song. I just love the lyrics:

Don't tell me you don't know what love is
When you're old enough to know better
When you find strange hands in your sweater
When your dreamboat turns out to be a footnote
I'm a man with a mission in two or three editions

Gun to head it's my favorite, too.  :)

Depends on which style guide you use. I personally just go with what feels right and let the copy editor sort it out. 😆

Hey, I missed the original post in the barrage.  I'm going with whatever you said.

The Attractions didn't play on Alison  :grad:
Yes in fact, The backing for Costello's debut album "My Aim Is True" was provided by American West Coast band Clover, a country outfit living in England whose members would later go on to join Huey Lewis and the News and the Doobie Brothers.

I found that out when I heard Huey Lewis interviewed on a recent podcast.

Can we at least agree that "Girlfriend in a Coma" is one of the most ridiculous song titles ever?

Well, that is what the song is about...I am not sure what else Morrissey could have called it.

squizz - completely disagee

working alternative titles:

* ##### - Wake The Hell Up (aka 'You Ain't Foolin' Nobody)

* Coma Girls Give Bad #######s

* I Guess You Won't Say THAT To Me Again

* Fast Food In An ICU

let's direct our frustrations towards Arbys and their elimination of our beloved potato cakes

Curly fries FTW

reaction.

if I may bring some semblance of a analogy I used a number of years ago ...that now must be less explosive

Arby's Potato Cakes stomps on the throat of curly fries (then proceeds to do things Attila the Hun did to all of the curly fry relatives) etc. etc

Note:  I want to keep my spot in the song draft.

I'm surprised these guys are still on the board....

Stone Temple Pilots.  Interstate Love Song.

I wanted to choose another one, but it's one of those songs I've heard a million times, and I sing along every time it comes on the radio.   I almost went wirh Crackerman ......or Big Empty cuz it was on the the Crow soundtrack which I love...

Just saw this selection.   I think they are the most undervalued of the grunge era bands and I rate them higher than most.

This is the exact song I'd choose for them.

My Hot Take selection would be "Dancing Days' as it is one of my personal favorites and didn't get much radio/television play.

It doesn't appear that anyone has really cared or has noticed outside of you as the discussion for the last page seems to be have been focused almost exclusively on the Sunday night NFL game.
That could be true. Or we're just biding time by hanging out until the next pick is made. That's what I'm doing. We tend to get along, so we do that. It's really no big deal and doesn't reflect a lack of interest in the music.

Yeah, but there really has not been much discussion of the last 4-5 picks that I remember, just talking about Mahomes and who he passed a TD too.

True. Eephus's pick didn't get too many comments. As for me personally, I try to refrain from criticizing any pick, so my silence might be that. I'm a relativist a bit when it comes to these drafts. I've found the tone and tenor of the participants is better if, when I have something negative to say, I keep it to myself.

not really feeling the "try" to be more open and friendly in your posting efforts

can we find you a personal coach?

we'll need your word that you're dedicated to keeping the effort first of course.

whoa ...never knew they covered it ...like it very very much.

This is an awfully pedantic point. Who cares if Midwest housewives never heard of them. Among people who cared about music beyond the top 40, they were important.
I'm not sure [The Smiths] were that important in Houston.  I don't think I ever heard them or Morrisey on the radio at all.  The first time I can recall being really aware of them was in these drafts.

Love the "Welcome to the Jungle" video.
