Thomas Jones in Indy = Top 5 RB (1 Viewer)

The only logic I am employing is that improving the passing attack that surrounds an RB does does automatically mean he is going to put up superior numbers. He may or he may not. You should feel guilty trying to prove something that is unprovable.
:) Of course you can't guarantee that Jones would have better numbers playing for the Colts next year. He may come down with rectal cancer, step on a 8 inch nail, swallow a grenade, or contract the ebola virus. The point is simply this: anyone would prefer a great running back on a team with a great passing game (the Colts) to having that same great running back on a team with a putrid passing game (Bears last 2 years). Obviously it doesn't guarantee increased production, since the team airplain could crash on the way to the game. I'm not looking for a guarantee, but for FF purposes, TJ in Indy would be a gamble I'd be willing to take!

Probably not happening anyway...

Although the deal Jones received in 2003 was nearly double his next-best offer, he is looking to improve on his $2 million base salary for this season.

That won't happen with the Bears, who have a sizeable portion of their salary cap already tied up in running backs.

Jones has left the Bears' voluntary off-season program and fired longtime agent Tom Condon in favor of Drew Rosenhaus. Jones is known for an intense off-season workout regimen and has worked with noted personal trainer Ian Danney in the past.

Indianapolis showed trade interest in Jones. But when word of Jones skipping the off-season program reached Colts President Bill Polian, the Colts dropped pursuit.

Other teams may enter the picture, although Angelo insisted both he and the coaching staff would prefer to see a happy Jones return.

Won't argue that, would be interesting. TJ would be huge in Indy.

I think Chicago is stupid to give him up for a third round pick. Benson has proven nothing, except that he sits out when he doesn't get the money he wants and when he has to carry the load he gets injured. The guy is weird, I am a huge longhorn fan and I don't even like the guy....
I dunno, LJ was real 'weird' too...when Vermeil tells the media that you need to get out of your diapers, you KNOW something bad is going on! lolBenson is the real deal..TJ is decent too..but they drafted benson to be the #1 guy..they also have Peterson (spell check) , who is a solid backup as well...

Thomas Jones did next to nothing over the course of his career before last season.  Forgive me if I'm a bit skeptical.
 I count 2 solid years in Chicago, and on an offense that couldn't pass to save its life. 2004 Chicago Bears 14 games, 240 carries for 948 yards (4.0) & 7 TD's

2005 Chicago Bears 15 games, 314 carries for 1335 yards (4.3) & 9 TD's

Also consider LeMont Jordan's stats before he started in Oakland:

Year Team G GS No Yards Avg Lg TD 20+ 40+ FD

2001 New York Jets 16 0 39 292 7.5 46 1 3 14

2002 New York Jets 14 0 84 316 3.8 61 3 1 17

2003 New York Jets 16 0 46 190 4.1 39 4 2 14

2004 New York Jets 16 0 93 479 5.2 33 2 3 27

2005 Oakland Raiders 14 14 272 1025 3.8 26 9 4 61
whats with the Lamont Jordan love?? he avg'd 3.8 per carry and barely reached 1000 yards...I don't get it..yes he caught 70 balls..he sounds to me like a poor man's michael pittman, if there is such a thing! lolgood as a #3 rb, thats it

 At the time of his injury he was 5th in scoring for RB's. Just behind Edge. He is not a #3. He was also in the top 5-6 for the first 13 weeks in TdsSounds like you just dont like him or dont know his true value. In fantasy ypc mean nothing. Points do,he will get you those.

If that wasnt enough,he finished 7th overall for Rb's and sat 2 games. Does that sound like a#3 RB. Because to me it sounds like a #1.

:wall: Once again people need to look at what he was running into. Lamont was hit in the backfield or had to make a move immediately after getting the handoff a lot of the time. This is a FF website folks. Understand that what will separate you from the pack is to look beyond the numbers. If Lamont were in KC people would be having conversations of where Lamont should be picked in the top 5. Note: I am not saying he is great, but Lamont is a VERY capable NFL RB and even on a Raider team that was inept in many ways last year, he finished 8th overall for RB's AND missed 2 games. He averaged 16 points a game he played last year. To say he is a good RB #3 is folly.

Also consider LeMont Jordan's stats before he started in Oakland:
The bigger point shouldn't be Jordan's validity as a starter, but the fact that he WASN'T a starter in New York. Of course his numbers are going to improve when he goes from getting spot duty as the #2 guy to being the prime guy. To make this comparison in this situation was ludicrous.

The reports say that Indy has offered a 3rd rounder (#94). This is a steal. TJ for $2 million this year and $2.25 million next year (his remaining two years with the Bears).

Let's face it, Indy is challenging for the Super Bowl and its window is closing. A seasoned RB who can block, run and catch is preferrable to taking a chance on a rookie in the latter part of round 1. Plus Indy would be able to use its Round 1 and 2 picks to shore up weak spots.

The real question is why would Chicago do this. A third rounder for TJ? A second rounder maybe, but even then #62 seems low.

Probably all moot as KFFL has reported:

News and Notes

Apr 23 K.C. Johnson, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the Indianapolis Colts dropped their interest in trading for Chicago Bears RB Thomas Jones when they heard he had left the team's offseason conditioning program.
