Tie with no tie breakers previously established (1 Viewer)

Tie in espn leagues automatically awards it to the higher seed. Thats a stupid rule. It should be bench points or total points for the season.
Using bench points is way stupider.
We do the higher seed thing and I think it's fine. It gives a small reward for having a high seed if it comes down to it.I agree with bench points being stupid, why should you get rewarded for players you didn't start?

Also interesting that the OP thinks "higher seed is stupid" but total points for the season is okay.

Why wouldn't you get rewarded for drafting/creating and managing a better overall team?It shouldn't be done in this situation because neither team had the opportunity to prepare for this outcome but on the whole I have no problem rewarding someone for creating a better team top-to-bottom.

I remember once we had a guy who didn't show up for the draft and the computer auto-drafted for him. He ended up with 5 QBs, 3 kickers, and 3 D/STs. He led the league in bench points. We kicked him out of the league the next year.

Did he make the playoffs?

Yep, and he won a tiebreaker in the first round thanks to all those bench quarterbacks and kickers. Guy never changed his lineup and he won the whole league. Amazing, really. But life kinda went downhill for him after we kicked him out of the league. He cheated on his wife, got caught embezzling money from work, ended up doing 5 years for drug dealing. That's what happens when you go through life on autodraft, I guess. He's up for parole next spring though. I'll have him PM you in case he wants to get back into fantasy football.

I'm too lazy to read the rest of the responses.

The correct method in breaking ties is to drop the high/low score from each teams active roster. Picking random players retroactively or bench is a load of crap.

Lots of creative (and unnecessary) ideas in this thread. Simplest solution is most of the time the best. Decimals.

It incorporates all and only players that started the under the actual intent of the owners and breaks the tie.

No solid reason NOT go with decimals.

What happens when you have a tie with decimals?

Have both owners agree to some sort of competition, with the winner advancing to the next round.

A foot race, HORSE, a wrestling match, game of heads up poker, who can hold their breath the longest, a round of golf (real or putt putt), a game of Madden football, etc.

If they can't agree then go with a coin toss.
