Tiger Woods (2 Viewers)

Golf is simply more fun when Tiger is winning or in contention. It's sorta like the NBA is more exciting with Kobe or Lebron in the finals despite nobody really liking their characters. They make the sport better because of competitive drive or otherwordly talent. In Tiger's case he is both the most competitive and talented golfer (with all due respect to Bobby Jones) ever.

I mean look at Jordan. I doubt anyone would say they rooted for him to lose despite him being an ####### who cheated on his wife, gambled, and was cruel to people.

The course was set up like a US Open. The question asked and answered. The reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated. Shout out to Bobby Layne for his early call this week!

Pretty quiet in here from the fin/nipsey account today.
It's been quiet for a year now. Not just in here. All but wrote this board off. I stick to sports these days. I ran out of fake stories, personas and lost my passwords to most off my famous alias accounts.

:lmao: Do you have a link to anyone ever saying Woods would never win another tournament?FYI, 75 guys have won tournaments since Woods' last win. 75 guys. Kind of puts the magnificance of his non-major win into perspective. Are you seriously thinking Fin or anyone else here has to eat crow? It may have been the biggest fall from grace in sports history. That doesn't change just because the dude finally played a good round of golf after three years. Nor will it chanhge if he wins a couple more. hth75 guys, Otis. 75 guys.

Well, for a "mid-level" field at the "match", he did pretty well. And the trajectory of his performances leading up to it, obviously aiming to peak at the Masters....well, it seems he picked the right mid-level match to win.

Might want to have a look at his performances since Australia in October and, more importantly, his stats and the manner in which he's getting the ball in the hole. He's been near or at the top in the fields in total driving and greens in regulation, and as of Bay Hill, putts inside 10 feet. You guys sound like my mother trying to talk football. These posts you're making now are going to be used to ridicule you soon. Do even a little handicapping here and you'll see that it's time to sell on bashing Tiger's golf game. And he's been back since the President's Cup.

He's playing better. But if you understand what this thread was about, you'd realize that doesn't change anything. Not one person here ever said Woods would never win another tournament. And I agree that he will contend for the Masters. Personally, I'll be hoping he chokes or his injuries flare up, but it'll certainly be a better tournament to watch if he's on the leaderboard come Sunday. I'm just making fun of the people who have come here tournament after tournament for three years and took a beating, and now think it's some kind of revenge day because he finally won one. lol LIke I said before, 75 guys have won since he last won one. Were they all Supermen too?

How many of them won a full field tournament by five strokes?Yes, all of the ones that did that are also incredible golfers who were the top of the sport and the top of their game, i.e. what you said Tiger would never be but he probably is at this point. Let me know how many you come up with.

There's a lot of guys in this thread that have claimed he's done. DONE. Not for a limited time frame, but done for good. Fin evens claimed that Jack can rest easy. Most reasonable people that have seen TIger's talent didn't believe any of that for a second. You don't go from being the most talented golfer ever to a run of the mill guy during your peak years as a golfer. If the Tiger doubters would have had a bit of intellectual honesty they'd have agreed that injuries take time to recover from. The injuries were so serious that he decided he needed to change his swing again to take pressure off of his knees. Last time he went through a major swing change it took 2 years before he was Tiger Dominant again. The "people coming here tourney after tourney taking a beating" were being honest in their discussions of his progress. You could see his swing getting better each tournament. Despite all of this, from Nov. 2009 until he got hurt last year, he STILL LED THE ENTIRE WORLD IN AVERAGE FINISH IN THE MAJORS. Tiger's worst was still better than the rest of the world. So, you can get on people all you want for being "wrong" for 3 years and piling on. We just saw the truth. Tiger was going through the worst period of his life, deconstructed his entire swing, battled through various injuries, yet STILL was the best golfer in the world in tournaments that mattered. Anyone with their eyes open could see that Tiger was going to be back and in a big way. Since last November he's improved every single tourney. The only thing holding him back the last 5 tourneys was his putting. If this past tournament is any indication, then it's back, or almost all the way back. Will he dominate the way he did in 2000-2008? Probably not. Will he be the best golfer in the world the next 5 years? I think you would have to be an idiot to say no.

I think McIlroy has a chance to contend for that....he seems to have the youth/talent/head combo...and his recent string of top 5s is the most impressive thing I've seen since Tiger. But he's the only one.

I still doubt he'll beat Jack's record. I'll go on record saying that.Nor do I think he'll be the best golfer in the world for the next five years. Not even sure he'll be the clear cut best in any of those five years. Things are diferent now. Too many great young golfers. Guys who have beaten Woods manay, many times and who are not the least bit intimidated by him (something he thrived on back in his prime). PLus, his 'supplementation' has taken a toll on his joints. He's not the healthiest guy around these days. Seems he's always a swing away from withdrawing.

Yes, I could see him challenging Tiger. I also think the fact that he is there challenging Tiger will make Tiger work even harder at reaching his pinnacle again. Were Tiger not around from 2004-2008, Mickelson might have had the greatest 5 year stretch of golf in history. I think having a guy there challenging him makes Tiger better. I personally think McIlroy will run into the same situation and it's gonna be a fun few years to watch golf.

If you don't understand (or refuse to acknowledge) the difference between a narrow win and a dominating one in sports then yeah, I think we're done here. Keep on hating and keep on moving those goalposts. Eventually you'll be right, I guess.

I don't. Tiger just won a tournament with a solid field by 5 strokes and his swing still isn't where he wants it to be. He still can't play a draw consistently and he still has room to improve his short game. He destroyed this field and still isn't at the top of his game. More importantly, he got to experience a small taste of reward for the months of work he's put in. That'll make the next 5 months of work easier to deal with. He'll win 4 more in the next 7 years easily IMO.

Not even sure he'll be the clear cut best in any of those five years. Things are diferent now. Too many great young golfers.
When talking about being the best player in the world....depth in today's Golf is over-rated. There is a very clear difference between a player ranked top 10 and one ranked 50. There is no depth at the top. So when Tiger is playing like he did last week....he's only competing with a few players consistently. None of whom have won more than 1 major, other than Phil.

NOT A MAJOR OMG

Here's a list of the other professional golfers Tiger beat in this tournament. You may recognize some: LINK

My take on Tiger at Bay Hill is that things are coming together but we can't know if he's capable of winning multiple majors. He's driving the ball down the middle, especially with the stinger, approach shots are improved, and his putting is no longer a hindrance.

With the state of his game right now I think he's more likely to win the US Open than The Masters. I feel better about his driving accuracy than his putting.
