Tiger Woods (3 Viewers)

Tiger Woods has averaged 72.6 in his 17 major weekend rounds since 2011 Masters.
obv he had a long way to fall due to how incredible he was, but has any golfer had this big of an epic collapse so early in their career?
Probably, we just never heard of them.

If Tiger ever actually figures out how to hit his driver in the fairway he will win more majors. Until then, he MIGHT be able to win one hitting 2 iron and 3 wood. MIGHT. He would definitely need some good fortune for that to happen.

he is an exception, but to be so dominant and to not win another major after 33 is nuts. he still could but if he doesn't i think this has to be looked at as the biggest collapse in modern sports.

Looks like he makes the cut on the number at +2...

No Claret Jug for you this year, El Tigre...
Glad he makes the cut. I want to see him collapse even more this weekend.
Was actually wondering what the haters preferred- surprised this is the preference I would have thought you preferred that he miss the cut, because that's a stain on his legacy or whatever and you can fap to the MC next to his name not just through the weekend but at least until the next major. Now he'll just play two morning rounds and post some dull result like T-40 or something and the haters will throw little hissy fits all weekend about why they're showing him on TV when he's not in contention. Although I guess the flip side is that it creates more material for jokes?
I like 4 days of ham and egger type performance. When he's hacking, I really enjoy the updates. It's when he's totally out of it, like now, and they show him make a par. That's so ridiculous. It's not going to bring back the nuthuggers. They all gave up long before he did. Most have tuned into women's basketball.

Rooting for McIlroy to finish at 20 under and erase an Eldrick record from the books.
The level of vitriol aimed at this guy is just bizarre.

I certainly can't look at it so negatively like that. In order to have a collapse you have to be pretty damn high in the first place.

He peaked early, stayed on top of that peak for over a decade, then came back to Earth (for now, maybe forever, who knows).

Plus the general field of golfers is like 100x better than they were 15 years ago.

He has also not exactly had a shortage of back/knee surgeries that I am sure can't help.

I suppose I would call myself a Tiger fan. I mean, I generally don't care if he wins, but I find it ALMOST unwatchable if he isn't playing and/or near the top of the leaderboard.

He's the reigning PGA Player of the Year.

Yeah, good point. He did win more tournaments than anyone else last year. LAST YEAR!!

People seem to judge Tiger ONLY by majors. They do this because Tiger judges himself pretty much just by majors. Never really made any sense to me.

ya but let's tell it like it is, the only thing that matters is majors when we're talking about golf history, and to win so many and not win any after 33 would be an epic collapse.

Ryder Cup?
Not unless he makes the Fedex Cup playoff IMO...and he's projected at 215 after this week.
He is on the team unless he gets hurt
Disagree...not if he has no competitive play the month prior.
Watson - who shot a 68 today - won't announce his 3 picks until September. Between now and then Woods will play the Bridgestone, PGA and the FedEx events. Guess he'll need to play well in the former to qualify for the latter.

He doesn't have a great RC record and get thumped on a regular basis with or without him, so I think it's fine if he doesn't get picked. If he's playing well, though, Watson will be compelled to pick him.

Tiger=ratings...he plays in the Ryder Cup.
Watson and ratings? Try again
The guy has 14 majors, while his Ryder Cup record isn't great it has been better after a horrible start. You guys are acting like Watson will have a hard time talking himself into picking Tiger. The only thing worse for Watson than losing the Ryder Cup is losing the Ryder Cup while leaving the greatest player since Jack off the team.

Jack still has his sticks, why not bring him along too?

Pretty sure he can't pick Rory for the Ryder Cup.

I would guess Watson has one hard and fast rule - to make the Ryder Cup team as a captain's pick, you have to beat him at The Open.

Phil gets it:

Mickelson still does not have a top-10 finish in 2014 on the PGA Tour, but is looking forward to the next few events. He wants to earn enough points to make it onto the Ryder Cup -- he's never had to be a captain's pick going back to his first team in 1995.

And he feels great about his chances at Valhalla in Louisville, site of the PGA Championship. Lefty came into the Open outside of the top nine automatic qualifying places for the Ryder Cup, the cutoff coming after the PGA in three weeks.

"It does matter to me," he said. "It's been 19 years now that I've made it on my own and I think it's a record of consistency to play that well to make the team on your own without being a pick for almost two decades. And I'd like to keep that streak going.

"I think if I continue to play the way I did this week, and I believe I will, over in Akron, over in the PGA. ... I think that would be enough to get in on my own. If I don't get in on my own, I don't know if I played well enough this year to deserve a spot. So you want players that are hot, that are playing well. And I need to step up and start doing that."

Tiger, being classy as always, says that Tom Watson ought to pick him (Tiger). It's not as if his record in the Ryder Cup has been stellar; he's been just so-so.

Seems an absolutely acceptable and classy answer if you me.

Asked if he would be inclined to pick him if were in Watson's position, Woods said with a smile, "I would say yes."

"But that's my position, my take on it," Woods said. "He's the captain. Obviously, it's his decision. He's going to field the best 12 players that he thinks will win the cup back. And I hope I'm on that team.
