Tiger Woods (1 Viewer)

Its moving day...but, Tiger is moving in the wrong direction.
He was one under today. Crazy to say anything negative about today or this week. He was one shot from the front page of the leaderboard late in the round. This course has been no joke all week. Ask Rickie Fowler about it. No matter what happens tomorrow, this is a HUGE week for him. Only 3 starts since coming off major back surgery, hasn't competed really in years. T12 after 3 rounds at the Honda. To say he's exceeded expectations so far in 2018 would be an understatement.

Its a Ham 'n' eggers tourney.  He isn't any more likely to win, than I am.  The only positive to take from this is that he made the cut, and picks up a check this week.

I assume this is all schtick but the reality is if Tiger can score this well on a course like this than he is going to be a factor at Augusta.

Jim Nantz:

"And Tiger is in the clubhouse at even par.  There is a chance that the field can completely collapse over the next hour. Stay tuned - we may see Tigers first win in several years."

Don’t see tiger putting together 4 really good days in a row.  Maybe if he has one monster day he could survive a couple rounds of par

T12 in 3rd tournament after multiple back surgeries, years away from competition.  Incredible week for him. 4 solid rounds on a tough track, a course he's never been a horse for. Three months ago I thought the guy was completely done. One month ago i'd laugh if anyone said he could compete in a major again. I still think this year is going to be about finding it but if the back holds up, this week shows he's going to be a factor again. If he ever figures out the driver it's going to be fun to watch.

All this. No matter how you slice it this was a great week for him. Bodes well for an interesting year if he continues to stay healthy.

And this is exactly why I haven’t paid the bet yet.

He's shown he can play well enough to win a major.  He will never be the favorite versus the field again.  Now, like any other pga contender, he has to put it together and get on a run for 4 rounds.  He has plenty of time left in his career for this to happen.

I'm still in on him winning another major.

Meanwhile, 24 year old Justin Thomas has won 7 times in 31 starts.  That's a hell of a run for a young guy, but still worse than Tiger's CAREER winning percentage of 26%.

The argument of whether he is the best golfer ever is different than whether he can win another tournament, let alone another major.

34 players had more win in 2017 alone, than Tiger has had since 2014.

There are 4 players over the age of 40 who have won a major since 2000 - and I don't think any of them have had back surgery.

I'm ok with a bet with him winning a tour event before the end of 2018.

1 player has won more tournaments since 2008.

You can use these statistics to tell whatever story you want.

Honestly, Tiger should just shelve the driver and hit that 3 wood or a driving iron.  The rest of his game is shaping up.  He needs to hit more fairways.  Put the driver down until you can hit it consistently.  He doesn't need it.

And someone up thread said Tiger would need to contend/finish top 3 before people would be interested.  That's nonsense.  The galleries following that guy show there is plenty of interest.  I like Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Thomas.  But the story is Tiger.  It just is.

If he toned down the driver swing to 75% effort he'd probably hit it far enough and alot straighter.

Yep.  Tiger brings the ratings.  Now that he looks relatively competitive golf will be far more interesting to the general public.  I'm actually looking forward to the majors this year for the first time in years.

Tiger today commits to the Valspar at Copperhead next week...first time he's been here in 22 years...will be interesting to see what happens to attendance.

Great sign of health.

Awesome players at this event and it will draw even more spectators with Tiger.  Good to see him coming to town

Isn’t this a very tight course?
It is...not a lot of serious trouble off the tee (minus #16 and #3) but trees everywhere. And once you hit the fairway the real fun starts. Ball strikers course. It's risky no doubt as it could just frustrate him.

Like seeing him play the kind of events he had to back when he was racing to get his Tour card as a 20 y.o. rookie. I don’t mean that in a humbling, schadenfreude kind of way, I just think it’s cool for the locals to see him tee it up at tournaments he’s never entered before. He did play Copperhead back in 1996 with Kelli Kuehne in the mixed team JC Penny event.

Agree...Copperhead has been an easy out between Doral and Bay Hill. Why play a US Open type course now? Because he feels physically ready, is gaining real confidence, and has to play under stress.

I'll be out there Saturday.  Hopefully he makes the cut.
I’m going Thurs...my buddy was supposed to get Owls Nest tix for Fri and bought the wrong day. I can go either, and now Thurs looks much better...Rory off early where hopefully attendance will be light...then the afternoon all hell breaks loose and I’ll be 3 hours in to All You Can Drink.
