Tiger Woods (2 Viewers)

I’m going Thurs...my buddy was supposed to get Owls Nest tix for Fri and bought the wrong day. I can go either, and now Thurs looks much better...Rory off early where hopefully attendance will be light...then the afternoon all hell breaks loose and I’ll be 3 hours in to All You Can Drink.
Surprisingly good field this year

Never been. Not a big golf guy but looking forward to it.
How late are you going? I think you’ll still catch the end of his round early afternoon, or he may hit the range if he makes the cut...which is very accessible.

Probably 1-2. It’s literally 5 minutes from my house, surprised I’ve never gone before.

Like seeing him play the kind of events he had to back when he was racing to get his Tour card as a 20 y.o. rookie. I don’t mean that in a humbling, schadenfreude kind of way, I just think it’s cool for the locals to see him tee it up at tournaments he’s never entered before. He did play Copperhead back in 1996 with Kelli Kuehne in the mixed team JC Penny event.
John Deere Classic organizers keeping their fingers crossed.

There it is.

I played this course a couple times in the '90s. As fast as any greens I have played. If he's putting well there, that is a very good sign going into Augusta.

Had a perfect day yesterday, great mix of walking the course and relaxing in seats ( with some spectacular pics):

- got out at 8 AM and followed Rory and the Serg/Kuch/Scott group, with no one around

- spent 2 hours at Owls Nest w free beer

- spent 30 min watching Tiger on the range and putting green

- hit the course w Tiger/Spieth...getting 3 holes in front then waiting for them to come thru, getting front row on #5 tee (driver), #8 tee (6-iron), and #18 tee (3-wood)

- Owls Nest again for an hour as Tiger came thru

Tiger is like 72nd in Ryder Cup points.

What does he need to make the top 10?  2 wins and some top 10s?
http://www.rydercup.com/rankings

He’s 76th. Earned zero points last year. If he tops $4M (roughly top 15) he’s a mortal lock to be a Captain’s pick even with zero wins.

breakdown of how players can collect points in 2018:

2018 Regular PGA Tour events

- 1 point per $1,000 earned

Note: Beginning January 1, 2018, through the PGA Championship, August 12, 2018; includes the Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event and WGC events.

* 2018 Opposite Field PGA TOUR events will NOT receive points.

2018 Major Championships

- 2 points per $1,000 earned for the winner

- 1.5 points per $1,000 earned for all others to make the cut at The Masters; U.S. Open; Open Championship; PGA Championship.

Note: The points system for the American team will conclude on August 12, 2018, following the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, with the top eight (8) players on the points list securing spots on the U.S. Team.

Captain's Selections

- The four (4) remaining slots on the U.S. Team will be Captain's Selections. Three selections will be announced by Captain Jim Furyk following the Dell Technologies Championship scheduled to be completed on September 3, 2018, and the final selection will be announced after the BMW Championship, which is slated to be completed on September 9, 2018.

would Tiger even want to play in the Ryder's Cup?  If I were him I'd be saving every bit of health I have for winning 5 majors and bringing Otis the bacon!  :pickle:

Yeah, that's pretty much a perfect day if I were to draw one up.  Good for you Gump!

I love watching golf on TV.

Worst experience of my life, watching a live sporting event, was a PGA event.

Dreadfully boring.
These guys do things with a golf ball that can only be appreciated live.

Cant wait for tomorrow. Settling for a Tigers/Mets spring training game today instead. 66 and not a cloud in the sky. Rough life.

I'd agree with that. I've been a volunteer at two stops (3 years at TPC Sawgrass while I was in the military) and I've been to a few events ranging from defunct events like the Pensacola Open and Buick Open (Warwick Hills) to the US Open, Ryder Cup and PLAYERS.

All of us can have moments: a 320 yard drive, holing out a sand wedge, sinkining a long putt. But what is most impressive to me is how they grind it out after a poor tee shot or faced with a difficult up and down. It's a game most of weekend players are unfamiliar with.

If you're in person watching, unless you follow them down the fairway, how do you even see their recovery shot?

Often times it is impossible to move and follow someone for every shot.

Huh? You walk. At the same pace as the athletes. Not many pro sports out there where you can get about 5 feet from the action.

FTR my favorite time of watching Tiger was not the dominant periods but when he was relatively struggling from Bethpage 2002 until the 2005 Masters. I think that was during swing rebuild #2? He only had three top tens in majors over a ten tournament stretch. By his own standard he wasn't winning often: like maybe 10 wins over 2 years, 10 months, 3-4 WGC events (Match Play twice), and often seemed to have no idea where the clubhead was. I've never seen anyone grind it more than he did during that stretch. A lot of that isn't just talent but just refusing to give strokes away.

You can follow 95% of the pros on Thursdays and Fridays easily at non-majors.
More like 99%. We used to follow Trevino and Nicklaus around easily. And I've watched Phil every other hole at FedEX Cup events. The 20 deep that Tiger draws is unlike anyone else.

Oh you WALK?? Silly me!?  Thank you for that important advice.

I guess the experience I had at the deutsche bank @ TPC Boston - Norton MA, was a different experience.

It was literally so far from 9 and 10, the golfers got to use golf carts to get there. us schlubs, had to walk.

Weather is just amazing right now. Heading out to follow Spieth in a bit.
