timdraft #4: Movie Category Draft (3 Viewers)

In this draft, we have seen him hold a boombox over his head to woo a girl and teach us of the fine art of making a mixed tape, now we get to see him kick some ### and kill a guy with a pen:

26.16:

(fight scene)starts up at around :33

Well Acer is judging this category based on his classroom experience. Lucky for me I'm sure he's had to tell a classroom of kids that they are actually clones that are being raised to be harvested for organs, 100s if not 1,000s of times.

27.20 Never Let Me Go - Classroom scene

I really wanted to take this for shootout but it doesn't exactly fit the realistic qualification. Love this movie!

Nice pick - thought about it for my England movie.

I was thinking about for that as well, but loved the fight scene enough too.

I have 3 categories left and can't decide for any of them. I have to go to ballet. You can #skip me. I'll pick when I make my mind up.

Let me know if k4 comes up

28.07 - Antonio Ricci (Lamberto Maggiorani) - Bicycle Thieves - Best Portrayal of a Parent

I am unclear if this is best parent in a Leave it to Beaver / Mike Brady "well, you learned a valuable lesson" way, or the best portrayal of a parent, including the anguish and frustrations and downside. I'll choose the latter.

Everything this guy went through - the torment, frustration, and even anger, was for his family. A childfree bachelor doesn't work for this part.

Someone help me out here. Should we just finish up tomorrow and let people make up their picks over the weekend.

Looks like most of us are on some sort of skip. I know I can't decide what to take.

Any thoughts.

27.6 - Ben Hur, scene in the roman baths before the chariot race - Gambling Scene

Sheik Ilderim wagers with the Romans a large sum, challenging Messala's "magnificent blacks" and gets good odds and a snide remark from Messala:

"4 to 1. The difference between a Roman and a Jew."

I'll post a link later when I'm not at work.

28.12 State and Main - last scene -Shooting a movie scene.

"Only second chance I know is a chance to make the same mistake twice."

I'll look for a video tomorrow.

Nazis

The temptation was to go for Top Secret or To Be or Not to Be here, but instead I will go with the breakthrough film for Russell Crowe who plays the leader of a small Neo Nazi group in Melbourne fighting against the Vietnamese refugees. As usual the main fighting is within the group. As a footnote the charismatic fellow lead actor Daniel Pollock threw himself under a train before the films release.

27.21 (26.05 for Tim) - Romper Stomper - Nazis

In case you haven't seen it Tim, for your convenience I've linked the full movie on youtube

I would say let it play out through the weekend, but all picks can be made at any point

I know I will be busy all weekend and won't have many chance to check in

well, we only have two rounds left officially, and we've been well over 2 round a day pace, so I say just finish it Friday / weekend.

(we're going to "officially" finish friday anyway, so why make you keep track?)

ok, no problem. We will probably finish up with regular order tomorrow and then people can make picks up when they can

Drugs

So tempted to go for the Russell Crowe double and take The Insider, but instead will go for the movie that made Turkish Jails sexy (not really)

28.05 (27.21 for Tim) - Midnight Express - Drugs

I vote for whatever you want. This is for all intents and purposes the AcerDraft (and that's a good thing).

For the Dramatic Actor in a Comedic Role category - would I be able to take a dramatic actor that did comedies earlier in his/her career? Does that meet the spirit of the category? Or does the actor need to begin his/her career in dramatic movies?

If you would like to judge the category, then you're free to decide this.
