I know, GB. I know I'm a recent activity-type-guy in the FFA after a decade (!) of lurkage, but assume any jab I make at you, in particular, is in TOTAL jest.
Plus, you're right! (Added bonus.)Pretty sure it's about man's inhumanity to man.Eraserhead- No idea what it's about
David Lynch's first film is one you will never forget once you've seen it- especially THIS scene, which I like to call the "squelch a fetus dance":

Unfortunately some one has. Mrs. R in the first round - but I agree it's a crap category.I hate that category, too. Since no one's taken anything in it, could we punt it and get something better? We still need judges for the following categories:
Monologues
Shooting a movie scene (I think this is a dumb category.)
Sports scene
Multiple Performances
Best Movie Parent
Dramatic Actor in comedic role
A lot of it's greatness is due to the fine scriptwriting by Abby Mann. It also features two Hollywood stars attempting a comeback: Montgomery Clift and Judy Garland. Both were excellent.4.19 Judgment at Nuremberg (1961): Nazis
Stanley Kramer's film about the trials of Nazi judges, held after the main events at Nuremberg when the public was losing interest, complete with an unbelievable performance by Maximilan Schell and touching turns by Spencer Tracy and Burt Lancaster.

Well dang.5.12 Neverending Story-Gmork Scene-Scene that scared me as a kid
Another pick from one of my favorite movies, this scene and the Wolf terrified me as a little kid, and I watched it recently, and could see why.

Trying, brother...just got sniped.Okay tish and Bobby. Let's make this happen before I have to get on the subway.
Good call. The dialogue is unreal. It may be a somewhat unusual source of inspiration I suppose, given the subject matter, but this film played a significant role in my decision to try to become a litigator.A lot of it's greatness is due to the fine scriptwriting by Abby Mann. Ah ####. Thought this would last longer, too. What do you need?
Guns. Lots of them.
Scenes shootout
Lobby Scene, The Matrix
Neo and Trinity shoot their way in

First one I thought of. Great pick.5.14 The Crying Game - Sausage Surprise - Shocking Scene
Joe might object to linking the scene. Not only is the scene shocking, it completely changes the movie you think you are watching. It's still tracking at 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
Takes out the whole Beatles "series"?5.16 A Hard Day's Night - Rock n Roll movie
Was scared away from this one based on the judge's 'realism' criteriaTiananmen Tank said:Ah ####. Thought this would last longer, too.BobbyLayne said:What do you need?

Negative eleventy billion.Well, ####. Was thinking Eraserhead and Spellbound for my next picks. Damn work. As for "the Rule", does that take away remakes? This was the first and best thing I could think of for Krista's category, and was hoping that me taking it early would make it so she doesn't have to judge some Nic Cage crap. 5.10: Damiel chooses mortality [Wings of Desire] (romantic gesture)

Figure if we replace it, it should be with another "scene" category. I am sure there is a decent one on the original list that we didn't use.BobbyLayne said:Mrs. Rannous would be doing everyone a huge favor replacing her pick with a dance sequence from tha same movie.Prison movie is a good option. Other ideas?
I'd hate it less if it were a movie category rather than a scene one.I also don't like the "don't know" category.krista4 said:I hate that category, too. Thought this would be good - ie "songs about songs" category in the other draft. I guess it's just me, but I love the movies about movies genre figured there would be tons of stuff to take from that. There are also just random ones from other movies that would work as well, but if everybody hates the category, by all means move it out. Boogie Nights would have been a great pick for the category - and there are 4-5 famous examples I can think of within the last few years. The ones I currently hate are the "I don't know what this is about", since that doesn't happen that often with the age of the interwebs and the "dramatic actor/comedic" role since I can't think of a damn thing.
Yeah, I knew you were going to take it but decided to abide by the unwritten rule on judges' picks.Negative eleventy billion.Well, ####. Was thinking Eraserhead and Spellbound for my next picks. Meh. If this refers to the judge "punting" the category, or picking last in it, or whatever, I don't agree. Why agree to judge a category, then disable yourself? Seems like a disincentive to judge.Yeah, I knew you were going to take it but decided to abide by the unwritten rule on judges' picks.Negative eleventy billion.Well, ####. I've never done this, but never had a complaint about where I ranked my own. Try to be as objective as possible. I already picked a car chase (took the category after picking), and expect it will rank high (I don't think it's very deep at the top)... shocking scene... that's deep. We'll see. Like I said, nobody has ever complained.Meh. If this refers to the judge "punting" the category, or picking last in it, or whatever, I don't agree. A far better solution IMO is to ask a couple of other drafters or judges to slot in your pick in your final rankings. That's what I did with "Songs About Songs" in the halcyon days of timdraft3, lo, those many minutes ago, and it seemed to work fine. I plan the same approach here with "my" three categories.
Nice pick. Was contemplating taking the "This is the girl" scene for the shooting a movie scene category.Tiananmen Tank said:5.15 Mulholland Drive (No Idea What This Movie Is About)
Took me a while to settle on Mulholland Drive for this category. I came up with a very long list of movies that I liked for it, but all of them were understandable in one way or another. Others just weren't as good as Mulholland Drive (I put Eraserhead in that group). My conclusion after several times seeing it and being in love with the film is that there really isn't a point. None of the mystery, none of the possible dreams, means anything at all. Not the box, not Club Silencio, not the house. At least not as a greater whole.
Speaking of Club Silencio, amazing scene.
