timdraft #4: Movie Category Draft (4 Viewers)

4.22 - Inglorious Basterds - Nazi film

It's funny, when I read tim's criteria for the category this is the first film that comes to mind, but I got a feeling tim hates this movie and it will score terribly, but I want it either way.

Anyway, imo Inglorious Basterds is among Tarantino's best. Phenomenal script, phenomenal acting, great visuals, and a completely engrossing story filled with several phenomenal scenes that I could conceivably see scoring well in many of the scene categories. But I think I'll keep it here.
Yeah I wanted this, but I've already got a Tarantino on the mantlepiece.

I know Tim didn't like the factual inaccuracies in the film (true story)
You're confusing me with somebody else.

Mmm, couldn't find any evidence of this.

I know you didn't like a film because of it's factual inaccuracies, but I couldn't find which one it was.

It was at least 3 years ago. I assumed it was this

Sorry about that

When I was updating the third post, I discovered that there is now a limit to the number of total characters in any one post. Therefore, I was forced to divide the criteria into 3 separate posts. It is now located in posts 3, 5, and 15. I also added this info to the first post.

I think you're referring to when I pointed out some anachronisms in the film- NOT the way it ends, which is fine (because the movie is a revenge fantasy) but about how it begins. Jews weren't hunted down in 1940 the way the movie describes- that didn't begin until 1942-43.

But that's such a minor point compared to the film's overall greatness, and I made that exact same comment when I pointed out the anachronisms.

Found it

As much as I loved the movie, a couple of historical flaws:

1. Jews were not being hunted and forced to hide in France in 1941. They were forced to wear yellow stars, but for the most part were safe from further persecution, so long as they were French citizens. The main deportations in France did not begin until around 1943-1944. These were also considered menial tasks and a high level Nazi like the one portrayed would not have wasted his time with such a matter.

2. Following the invasion of Normandy, there is no way that any of the German high command show up anywhere near Paris. Not Goebbels, not Goering, and certainly not Hitler who from the summer of 1944 on was constantly in seclusion.

But these are pretty minor. I thought it was a spectacular film.
So Hitler really did die in a fire?

Yeah, they were laughing because I discussed historical flaws in a film that ended in fantasy. But that wasn't my point; I was referring to minor flaws OTHER than the interesting ending.

5.25 -

, Long TakeI had a few in mind for this topic, but they have been picked. Also thought of this for best fight. But the fact that it is an awesome fight scene plus it's all done in one take, going up a spiral staircase with dozens of extras, just blows my mind. The planning that had to go through to get this right must have been a pain in the ###. Tony Jaa is the MAN.

(blows trumpet)

I will now stentoriously declare that, the sweetness of Mrs. R and the goofiness of the category notwithstanding, KP likes it, there are some selections out there for it, and honestly, switching stuff up in Round Five just seems like a bad move. More importantly, however,

Where were all of you when these dumb categories (okay this one potentially dumb category) were being announced??
Coming in late, but ...

:goodposting:

Measure twice, cut once.

This was a tough choice for me because I had a few choices I wanted. But I want this one the most. Plus I thought KP ruined it for me, but he didnt

6.2 Arewen choosing a mortal life for Aragorn, romantic gensture

Dammit.

5.04 - The Holy Mountain - No Idea What This Movie Is About

The film's trailer actually does a pretty good job of showing you what you're in for:

That should be worth 50 points just based on the trailer.

Make-up pick:

5.05: Arthur Kirkland tears down Judge Henry Fleming in ... And Justice For All (Best Courtroom Scene)

...

Trying to find a better link -- first one I found splits the scene into two parts

EDIT: Looks like it's got to be split into two parts :kicksrock:

Something to note: my description of the selection doesn't make it quite clear -- Kirkland (Al Pacino) is defending Judge Fleming (William Forsythe) in a rape case. Fleming is the defendant and Kirkland is making the opening statements for the defense.. And yes, this is the "You're out of order! You're out of order! The whole trial is out of order!" final scene of the movie.

Krista and OH actually going to sit through all these WTF movies?
I don't even know if I could find them. I've seen Eraserhead and Mulholland Drive, of course.

Really I don't know what the criteria should be here. I posted some kind of tongue-in-cheek earlier, but is it just supposed to be the WTFiest of the WTFs? Kind of dumb.

I don't see anything beating that first one.

6.07 - Watchmen - Superhero Movie

I liked this one much better than the typical whiz-bang Marvel/DC fare. Really happy it's still here.

Ridiculously good intro

ETA - the above is just the bob dylan intro - however, it's a bit bloody, and the first still screen before you play it is the WW2 victory parade lesbian kiss - just a warning in case you are at work.
