timdraft #4: Movie Category Draft (1 Viewer)

7:07 WTF flick - Donnie Darko.

Umm. How to write a summary on this? Gah. Dude with "issues" starts seeing a demonic bunny, and has himself a quaint little rampage on the bunny's orders. Sorta. For a clip, we have Donnie and his girl at the Halloween showing of Evil Dead, and

Had this written down as a sneaky superhero pick.

That hadn't even occurred to me, that would have been an awesome pick.

Do we have a judge for the category nobody wants?

Is it allowed if they are shooting a documentary in the scene - as in the main film is not a documentary, but what they are shooting is.

I am judging it and full of hatred. Yes, I'd allow a pick like this.

Do you want to switch?

Since I was the lone champion for it, maybe I should endure the picks. However, I don't think I have time to judge 3 categories. If you our anybody else wants long take or scenes that scared you as a kid, I would take over judging the ####ty category.

If you want it, that's cool with me. I already have two others and will likely be in the midst of three weeks in Asia when we get to judging, so I'm not an ideal judge. Your other two are interesting categories--I'm sure someone would want one.

I will judge the shooting a movie scene then. Here are the rules:

1. no documentaries about movies

2. no found footage movies

However, to make it easier, open up the category, and increase creativity:

3. it can be a documentary being filmed

4. it doesn't have to be a 'real' movie as long as cameras, etc. are involved

5. it can be a home movie, BUT don't think they will score quite as well and it should probably tie into the plot quite a bit.

Will think of a way to judge them based on the scene itself, how it ties into the movie, etc..

<p>9.08 Even Dwarves Started Small - I have no idea what this movie is about

Here is the trailer:

:lmao:

I think I was 10X more surprised at her love for Unbreakable. Surreal handicapped dwarf movie featuring a pig crucifixion? She's all over that.

9.07 Serpico (1973): Movies About New York

Sidney Lumet directs Al Pacino in yet another one of Pacino's terrific performances, as honest cop Frank Serpico. The film's use of NYC landmarks, presented in gritty and unglamorous fashion, is pretty spectacular. The then-brand-new Twin Towers ( :( ) show up more than once.

Sorry, guys; I thought the clock stopped on weekends.

It does, bunch of overachievers around here.

Indeed he is.

Although I am confident that, had you kept the category, it would have fared respectably when it was all said and done. It's just too good a scene, and in the end, who cares if the film they were "shooting" would never make a theater.

As there is no judge for Sport Scenes that I can see, I'll throw this one open. Can we use a documentary?
Looking at the Judging criteria, has Tim chosen to judge this?I'm confused by the OP and one of the other criteria posts?
TIM, are you the judge for Sports scenes?
I can do sports scenes, I've seen most, if not all, of the US, and definitely UK as well.
Well? I can post criteria today/tonight.

I already added you in the OP.

 criteria coming up as soon as kiddos goes down for a nap... :fingerscrossed: or tonight.

Short version:

Need to be a real sport or a real competition... Need to fit in the movie, needs to be realistic-ish. Plus if it has world wide appeal, while more narrow local sports might get penalized (like caribou curling) unless the scene and movie is exceptional.

I don't want documentaries, but don't mind films based on real events (if that's the case, not too many artistic freedoms please)

More to come

Okay, I have yet to find video of the specific scene I want but I need to pick it now...

9.09 -- Last scene from 'Let It Ride', Gambling scene.

OK, post # 5 has a complete, up to date, alphabetical list of all films no longer eligible for this draft, including sequels and franchises. I will continue to update it at the same time I update the first 3 posts: roughly twice a day.

I did this to avoid drafters taking picks not eligible. We've already seen a lot of that, and there is bound to be more. Now nobody has an excuse- scroll through that list before you make your selection: if your movie is not there, (and not taken within the last few picks) you're good.

The last post has raised a question in my mind which has obsessively bothered me for years:

Is the plural for "dwarf" dwarves or dwarfs?

For Tish

8.12 Ghostbusters, NY movie

PM going to BL and Norwood

On a personal note, the opening scene scared me as a kid. Would have done well there I think. Or who could forget that there is no Dana, only Zool

This is nice.

Seriously though, I was thinking strongly about two picks that making that list ruined for me: the first was I was going to suggest The Wizard of Oz as a "dream sequence"- I could take almost the entire movie! But I forgot that someone took the ####### flying monkeys.

The other one was Prometheus- I was giving serious consideration to it as outer space- I hated it the first time I saw it, but since then I've come to appreciate it more. I didn't realize it was officially part of the Alien franchise.

I see Henry V taken, but I think you forgot to add the whole series: Henry 1-4

Prometheus is a "reboot" and isn't supposed to directly connect to the others.

Thanks for the list Tim. Great stuff!

That is not correct about Prometheus, per Wiki. This is important to point out. Certain "reboots" are directly connected to the others, while others aren't. Prometheus, and Star Trek (2009) are directly connected to franchises already taken, and thus are ineligible.

BUT- there are other "reboots" that are not on the list. Any of them are still eligible.
