timdraft #4: Movie Category Draft (4 Viewers)

Rock and Roll

All the goods ones have been taken, so I'm left with a bunch of substitute teachers to choose from.

When in doubt, go Scorcese

23.21 (22.05 for Tim) - Shine a Light - Rock and Roll

24.23 - Bryan Mills - Taken - Best Movie Parent

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't,

I don't think it really shows much parenting in it.

25.14 Midnight Run - Car chase

This is one of my personal top 10 movies, so I have to find a place to slot it here in the late rounds.

, complete with a chopper!"Jack got the Duke!"

Outer Space Movie

Not sure if this is part of the series or not, so I'll take it and find out

24.05 (23.21 for Tim) - Godzilla Vs Gigan (US Title Godzilla on Monster Island)

24.9 Spoorloos (The Vanishing) - final scene - shocking sceneWill post more when not on phone, but do NOT watch this scene if you haven't seen the whole movie.
Aaaah good old Spoorloos, the staple of every movie draft (Although it's usually me who picks it)

That scene was truly shocking and would be my top score if I were judge.

Then of course Hollywood did the most stupid remake, crazily enough with the same director. Betchya he was focused grouped to death on that one.
I actually didn't see the remake but just assumed it was awful. Also considered another movie for shocking scene in which the director later did an American remake, but Spoorloos is one of the best movies I've ever seen.

24.23 - Bryan Mills - Taken - Best Movie Parent

Why? Because he's not changing a diaper or picking up an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen?

This was my Sarah Connor argument.

With Tim as the judge, I'm not sure how it will go, but I like your style

25.17 Ralph Fiennes - Sunshine (multiple roles)

Alluded to this one earlier and realized I only had two that I like left in this category, so had better take one!

23.23 Vertigo - Dream Sequence

Love the Bernard Herrmann score here and HItchcock's great use of color and the final stark black and white image of the falling man

23.16 Poltergeist - scene that scared me as a kid. I'll pick a scene later
very surprised this is still here. If I had not take wonka, this was my next choice.
It is pg, but it is more of a horror movie than oyhers picked.
Yeah, that's why I kept passing, but couldn't pass any longerI'm thinking the clown under the bed scene. Haven't found it yet
Thanks to this movie, it's hard for me not to think of maggots whenever I see fried chicken. :X

***Category Move***

Moving Henry V to Long Take from Monologue

This is the scene I am using:

Beginning at the :14 second mark

As Non nobis, Domine is sung in the background Henry walks the battlefield in the horrible aftermath of the Battle of Agincourt, carrying a dead soldier over his shoulder

25.19 -

- Courtroom SceneThe torture chamber scene (linked)

It's not a "traditional" courtroom scene, but I don't care. It's a powerful scene from a superb movie.

24.05 (23.21 for Tim) - Godzilla Vs Gigan (US Title Godzilla on Monster Island)
Sorry, this film is ineligible. Please choose another film for round 23, thank you.
Aaah, I see you've updated post 5 well done.

28 of them correct?

Just noticed I am six picks in arrears. If it's alright, I'll make everything right sometime this weekend. Currently I don't have anything in the hoppa, and I would rather not rattle off a bunch of uninspired picks.

Outer Space

Only 2 more movies and this category is finalised (pending shuffling)

I'll pick one of them and that just leaves Mister CIA to close it out.

Given that my choices apart from this were Michael Bays atrocious Transformers, Flesh Gordon and Muppets in Space, the pickings were slim.

There was however one masterpiece still available and I'm very happy to have it.

Repick

24.05 (23.21 for Tim) - Silent Running - Outer Space

WTF Movie

I was going to pick Akira Kurasawa's Dreams, but that was picked so I'm going to go with a collaboration between 2 masters of surrealism in Luis Bunuel and the man himself Salvador Dali.

I was also going to pick this for most shocking scene (eyeball being sliced). Even though it was made it 1929 the scene is still pretty horrific, instead I'll pick it here.

If for some reason Tim disallows it because he has a stop watch rule regarding the length of a movie, then I have a spare in mind.

The reviewer can catch the whole movie on the link below

Ha! Was my first consideration for shocking scene (same one) and definitely for WTF, too. Very nice pick!

Actually no. I think the first series had only 12. The latter series was a reboot.

25.25 -

- Gambling Scene
Tough call. With inflation, these days it might have to be 10-20 million. The biggest gamble of all. Do you possibly gamble away your marriage for BOATLOADS of cash.26.01 - Rose and Jack flying at the prow of the Titanic, Romantic Gesture
She's been held back in her relationship Zane's character, so when she finally meets Jack she feels free. This scene finally lets her "fly away" from her past. Celine helps set the mood with her song.

24.03 Marlon Brando in On The Waterfront - Monologue

"I coulda been a contender"

I looked at it. The problem is that there is so much back and forth between him and the other guy (forgetting who) that the "monologue" ends up being very short and not so compelling.

I just watched Titanic on Monday night (you know, the anniversary of the sinking and all). The most romantic gesture is when Rose jumps back on Titanic from the lifeboat.

Or, when she hocks a loogie in Cal's eye.

Can't decide which.

I guess there are skips, because I got a PM saying I am up:

26.07 - Becket - England Movie

Been sitting on this one for awhile, but there will soon be a rush to fill this category, so I'd better get my #1 choice now.

I'll be getting on various planes tomorrow for a long haul to Singapore. I'm hopeful I could get my 26th round in the morning since I'm one away, but is there someone I could just send my last four picks (with backups, I guess) to for the end of the draft?

WARNING: I will be out of the country for a while and have no desire to spend that time on judging, so my romantic gesture judging will be after May 5. Perhaps well after. Feel free to replace me if that's a problem.

Moving King Kong to New York movie

Therefore I need to pick another Shooting a Movie Scene

In the final 4 minutes of this movie Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes "wander" through the filming location for a Dutch movie featuring Dwarves, where Farrell's paramour is a production assistant

26.05 (25.21 for Tim) - In Bruges - Shooting a Movie Scene (Final 4 minutes)
