Neither farts nor fraternities...So.... you're not in favor of ending farts?

I'm not surprised that many of you have a huge group of college friends that you still hang out with and keep in touch with (FBGs are clearly are a social group), but I still say that represents a small percentage of people that went through college.
I did. and I wasn't in a frat.fair. But this is NOT exclusive to frats. Nor does it include them all. We never forced anyone to drink.
Wait, you aren't suggesting that we ban those activities and videos I watch occasionally of sorority hazing? If so, #### you!Sororities are perhaps even worse with hazing now than men nationwide. They just don't usually end up killing their pledges. Alot of what we define as hazing for men don't really work for women.
And how do you ban hazing? Most of what goes on is already illegal.
I rented a room from a co-ed "frat" my junior year. they'd ask me to leave or stay in my room a couple of times for "pledgey" stuff. the night of initiation, they asked if I wanted to join. these were a great group of guys and gals, but anybody who needs me to "join" them after a year of already being friends... no gracias. plus, any organization that would accept me as a member... nein.Older brother was in a fraternity and after hearing a few of his stories, I ended up mostly against them by the time I got to college.
Commented on this to someone. He told me his fraternity was non-hazing. I said I'm sure they all say that. He said they were non-secret too and I could come attend their pledge events if I wanted and see for myself. I was friends already with quite a few of their members so I dropped in several times the next quarter, including watching initiation. Ended up pledging the next quarter.
Great experience overall. I think I'd be the less for not having had it.
Yeah we had rugby guys in our fraternity. The sh$t they did was cuhrazy. The most brutal initiation rituals I have ever seen involved rugby teams. God help you if you scored your first try.
We had to wear sundresses to the mall and to a bar We had quite a few beers of our own volition, then did it. Some of the cooler active members actually showed up at the bar in sundresses. Hilarity ensued.I don't even think the issue is hazing so much as it is incredibly dangerous overconsumption of alcohol. Make the pledges do push ups or run laps or something. Make them streak across campus. Or wear make-up to the local pub. But making people chug grain alcohol is a bad idea all the way around.
I was never in a frat and have better stories than that.We had to wear sundresses to the mall and to a bar We had quite a few beers of our own volition, then did it. Some of the cooler active members actually showed up at the bar in sundresses. Hilarity ensued.
Oh, damn. That's right. The frat I rented a room from had the rugby parties... ####### nuts.Yeah we had rugby guys in our fraternity. The sh$t they did was cuhrazy.
You should be in jail and they should end whatever it was you were involved in.I was never in a frat and have better stories than that.
We had one from England. Met up with him last summer. Still a crazy MFNothing more crazy than the Latvian rugby fraternity at me alma mater...
A Latvian rugby frat boy from England? We had one from England. Met up with him last summer. Still a crazy MF
Silly me...here, I always thought it was "Three 6 Mafia"...Perhaps so, but it was the frats that brought popped collars into the mainstream. Come on, I know you popped a few in your youth...
Reminds me of the Irish firefighter rugby wedding (groom and most of his good buddies) I went to a couple of years ago. Some stuff definitely got broke. Luckily there were plenty of dudes capable and trained to carry out the passed out dudes.A Latvian rugby frat boy from England?
Yeah, ok. You win
Flaming lips albums?Alright...ill ask.
What's the elephant walk and soggy biscuit
PaneraIf we eliminate frats where will overprivelaged closeted homosexual teenagers congregate in an environment where they can all convince themselves they are straight while molding their shallow worldview as they embark on the journey to adulthood?
Are you having feelings of inadequacy? If we eliminate frats where will overprivelaged closeted homosexual teenagers congregate in an environment where they can all convince themselves they are straight while molding their shallow worldview as they embark on the journey to adulthood?
Seeing this JD, you still against fraternities? If we eliminate frats where will overprivelaged closeted homosexual teenagers congregate in an environment where they can all convince themselves they are straight while molding their shallow worldview as they embark on the journey to adulthood?
??? I can say that about my friends that I got stoned with in the parking lot during high school.I was in engineering school - so my peers were boring as hell and I've lost touch with pretty much all of them. But my fraternity brothers? I'll probably be playing golf with a few of them after retirement and today I was just exchanging emails with my pledge brothers. It's been 25 years since most of graduated... How many of you (that weren't in fraternities) can say that about your college friends?
Who was the #######?Never was in a frat and never wanted to in one. Road tripped to a buddy's school and we ended up going to a frat party. One of the guys I was with was a monster and some of the frat brothers at the party wanted him out for no other reason that he didn't have the look of the average frat boy at a "Jr Ivy" school (we didn't start anything other than my friend being a very intimidating looking guy, with long hair and a leather jacket) and of course my buddy wasn't going willingly.
My buddy and this frat brother were having words and the next thing you know me and two of my buddies were surrounded by about 15 frat guys. Punches were thrown and there are about 10 frat guys pummeling my buddy while my other buddy and me only had 3 guys on us.
They kicked our ### but it was 15 vs 3 yet we still walked out of there so they obviously weren't as tough as they thought. One on one no one at that party had a chance against my buddy but put 10-15 frat brothers together and all of a sudden they can beat anyone. Bunch of rich spoiled #######.
There are plenty of fraternities that do not do a level of hazing that could result in death. These two posts seem to be describing two completely different environments.
I agree with tommyboy that there are many ways to meet people and make friends in college. I didn't pledge, and I have college friends I still get together with. Heck I have two friends from high school I still get together with.
Making friends and hazing don't have to exist together, but it appears frats and hazing do.
Meh ...the rugby club was the sole owner of the elephant walk where I went to college.
My frat was just a bunch of goofballs. My hazing was having to go to a drugstore and take some condoms to the register (this was the 80s) and ask if they had anything smaller.I don't even think the issue is hazing so much as it is incredibly dangerous overconsumption of alcohol. Make the pledges do push ups or run laps or something. Make them streak across campus. Or wear make-up to the local pub. But making people chug grain alcohol is a bad idea all the way around.
I guess this school had some issues with kids from the city that the school was in going on campus and causing trouble and apparently the frat thought we were locals looking for trouble. I'm sure there are a lot of colleges that have such issues when you have affluent suburban kids having their off campus housing in working class neighborhoods.Who was the #######?
I didn't ask about high school. It's easy to have life-long friends from high school, not so much in college.??? I can say that about my friends that I got stoned with in the parking lot during high school.

yeah- that continues to not make sense.Buttonhook said:I didn't ask about high school. It's easy to have life-long friends from high school, not so much in college.
I haven't seen that. I think most guys outside of a frat had a core clique of 5-10 folks they ran with. We had 50-60 that we knew well. Not a big deal, but I think fraternity net spread wider then GDI's did.yeah- that continues to not make sense.
especially given every single response in here from non-frat guys saying they have tons of friends and experiences from college. it happened. you need to move on from this flawed idea of yours.
Reread what I quoted. Amount of best friends wasn't part of the discussionI haven't seen that. I think most guys outside of a frat had a core clique of 5-10 folks they ran with. We had 50-60 that we knew well. Not a big deal, but I think fraternity net spread wider then GDI's did.
"tons of" isn't an amount? we all had "a friend" and "an experience", so I think you're taking amount into the equation. Again, it's cool, but what I said stands.yeah- that continues to not make sense.

Fair enough with "tons of"."tons of" isn't an amount? we all had "a friend" and "an experience", so I think you're taking amount into the equation. Again, it's cool, but what I said stands.
They couldn't think of a challenge you aren't accustomed to?NorvilleBarnes said:My frat was just a bunch of goofballs. My hazing was having to go to a drugstore and take some condoms to the register (this was the 80s) and ask if they had anything smaller.
cool. Completely agree that fraternity isn't required for college enjoyment. I wouldn't force it on my kids.Fair enough with "tons of".
Want meant to be central to my point.
ETA... Wasn't
Guys that need 10 times as many friends are making up for having a small penis.I haven't seen that. I think most guys outside of a frat had a core clique of 5-10 folks they ran with. We had 50-60 that we knew well. Not a big deal, but I think fraternity net spread wider then GDI's did.
Ha. Says the marching band dork.Guys that need 10 times as many friends are making up for having a small penis.
One of the many things people can participate in to make friends in college without having to join a frat.Ha. Says the marching band dork.
same ####### difference. You had to fit in to get in. Whatever dude. You hated frats. Some people probably hated marching bands.. Doesn't make either of you right, and didn't make your penis any bigger or smaller. One of the many things people can participate in to make friends in college without having to join a frat.
And we got all expense paid trips to bowl games.
Not really. Like you said, we were dorks. And we knew it, and didn't care.same ####### difference. You had to fit in to get in. Whatever dude. You hated frats. Some people probably hated marching bands.. Doesn't make either of you right, and didn't make your penis any bigger or smaller.
everyone is a dork to someone. Not really. Like you said, we were dorks. And we knew it, and didn't care.
Very true. It's about time we start calling those that don't think they are Frat Dorks.everyone is a dork to someone.
