Titans 2015 in-season thread (1 Viewer)

Very short presser today

Stinks after nothing Tuesday and "welcome back" Monday.

First Q was impossible to here. Someone (coach? player?) has been around the league even with him at Arizona, in San Fran 7-8 years and that's why they're trying to get him here. WHAT? Also surprised no followup Q by reporters, felt like something was there.

As I mentioned in Andrews' thread. Whis did say he'd be OK with just one back AFTER having said (lied, he's the coach with the gameplan cmon') he doesn't know who the main RB will be this week. Might be breaking down the RBBC wall a bit, might be nothing.

Me reading his face- Warmack won't be back this week. it'll be a give it a try week where he returns next week. He said we'll have to see how the week goes or somesuch.

It seems Coty Sensabaugh is out of the rotation with McCourty's return. He's played well but we like the depth we have there. That "but" is mostly why I figure he's out. Plan in preseason was Bleeding, McCourty, and Cox but also back then it was Cox shifting in 3 WR sets to be over the slot WR.

I don't like benching a guy that's been there through camp and has done well despite a couple burns. I like a S turned CB in Lebeau's D and think the CB tackling is exponentially better this year.

Maybe he knocks Stafford to inactive and is still active?

Where is he now in the safety pecking order? Huff returned from CB to S a while back.

This means he and Riggs are both not playing.

One starting WR each week with ZERO receptions has me quite apprehensive of change

By tweets, it seems Kuharsky took Whis' comments as genuinely complimentary whereas that "but" was key to me. He thinks he'll still be in nickel, which would consequently mean Bleeding sits.

I am not a fan of Blehdi and would prefer this but I didn't take it that way

Boobie Dixon was in for FA visit with Titans, but they decided to stick with Andrews in 2014

Special tips

Cornerback Jason McCourty has some special insight himself heading into Sunday’s game against the Bills.

McCourty has quizzed his twin brother, Devin, about Buffalo’s offensive weapons. Devin McCourty, of course, is a defensive back for the Patriots, who faced the Bills in Week 1.

“Whenever we play the same opponents, we always exchange notes and talk about different things they got from them and he saw and vice versa,’’ McCourty said. “It definitely helps. I’ll talk to him earlier in the week and try and confirm what he is saying. It kind of gives you a little bit of a head start.”

Sooo my Q is- Isn't that illegal?

Why would it be any different than watching tape?

I thought it would be tampering in the competitive sense. Not the not allowed to talk contract type tampering but not allowed to discuss other players way.

I got the wrong word here then, vocabulary

Here's tampering policy-http://www.dawgtalkers.net/uploads/2009%20NFL%20Anti-Tampering%20Policy.pdfit's all employment related

Presser was quite uneventful today

Unsure who will return, if everyone, wait til Friday.

Running game will be tough, might have to do some short screens.

Bills signed a new K Billy Cundiff and just signed WR Denarious Moore although I doubt Moore does much.

Watkins did individual drills with a trainer today so he didn't really participate in practice. Maybe tomorrow? I think he's the key here. I would be concerned if Harvin plays RB but without Watkins, I think this is a very winnable game for the Titans.

I think you are right in that unless the Titans bury the Bills early this will not be a win.

The Bills CBs are better than people thinks. Darby was much maligned in the preseason and he's been picked on, but he has played well across from Gilmore

They're not bad by any stretch. I think it's just that they're loaded elsewhere and viewed as the most deficient spot.

I've noticed not bombs per se but 25 yard nice rainbow passes on that D.

I wonder if they miss Searcy. The S just doesn't get over to help in time.

During the Giants game there were some penalties to skew yardage and catch totals but I thought they were foolish to switch-up to ODB in the short game. They had em' every single time and could have blown them out.

Pats and Giants were respectful of their front 7. They ran outside and passed up N down the sideline. To a degree, they worked around them.

I am quite fearful that Whisenhunt trots out his 3 TE offense and goes mano y mano tough guy ego response rather than copy that model.

Despite his annual talk, sounding like Heimerdinger and BB, he doesn't seem to play matchups well and game plan for them. It upsets me with the giant difference between Wright and Hunter/DGB. I was sold on the idea. I do not in anyway think most NFL teams have two CBs that can cover both types well. The quick CB that tries to keep up with Wright is not always their best leaper or strongish CB that can muscle with DGB. Also supposed to have had Fasano at TE spot, Walker in slot near him. I like the idea, wish they'd do it. The Colts were so depleted in the secondary by injuries they should have totally done it that week

Been discussing this elsewhere...have you guys noticed the hit Luck took late in the third Q. He then threw 3 fourth quarter TDs and missed the following two games?

Interesting cliche as the hit did 'wake him up' I suppose.

Also seems like you were that hurt and threw 3 TDs? awesome painkillers in game?

There's something really "wait a second" about Luck's injury

(on Justin Hunter’s impact so far this season)

Sometimes in this game, you don’t always have to catch the ball to really have an impact. I’ve been very impressed with Justin (Hunter) in his progression. He’s not there, but he’s really showing some signs of progress and that’s good for us. Hopefully he’ll get an opportunity to make some of those plays via catches and production that way, but I like the way he’s going about his business and you can see that confidence building.

(on if Justin Hunter is “not there yet” from a consistency standpoint)

I mean he hasn’t done it yet. I can’t sit here and say, until he’s done it, until he’s shown that he’s going to be that player that we hope he can be, you can’t say that. That could be said for a lot of guys on our team, or our team in general. While we’re really encouraged with a lot of things that are going on, we’re pushing hard to get over that hump.

Hunter's development reminds me a lot of VJax - it was frustrating to watch flashes of a player who could be great make so many mistakes.

The sun seemed to set when Whis arrived. I still think he could do well.

When every reporter, every coach including Whis, all sorts of players....when they all praise how he looked this summer and he winds up with what 10 targets in four games, something's not right there.Something stinks.

Maybe he replaces Quick next year in STL? or CLE decides a WR over 6 feet would be a good idea. He's 1.3 or 1.4 mil next year and I doubt they pay him that. A new coach might, but not Whis' regime.

Well the fire Whisenhunt train is starting up on Titans boards tonight. I guess promise has worn off and people want results.

Conversely, many people (me too) think Lebeau is doing some of his best work even considering his HOF career. Who expected their D to be this good?

Oh whizzer. Such a terrible coach. 4-28 or something like that for last 2 seasons. What's it gonna take to get this bum out? Keep LeBeau at DC. Doing a fantastic job. Get whiz the hell out already. Terrible embarrassment of a coach.

I saw some Blackson today but not much.

Morgan and Casey are rockin'

Jones and Orakpo need to get after the QB more. If Blackson at end over Jones, then do it.

As well as they've been performing on D, it would be so much better if they could provide pressure from both sides.

Whisenhunt always says some form of "go with the hot hand" but he doesn't usually do it.

I was angry about Battle last year and that's just coming back with Fowler. Why draft the top FB to only have him play ST?

With Coffman inactive, I thought they'd surely use Andrews and Fowler and a typical pro-set. Nope. More frustrating having followed them and know that they had a top five FB too in Neighbors but he got hurt. There was a definitive plan to utilize the FB.

Andrews, Supernaw, and Klug were well drilled to fill-in at FB too. What's the deal? What a waste of practice time and misleading the team.

Despite a solid preseason, does any NFL D even think Supernaw can catch a pass? They ought to throw him a token one like Stevens. No one will cover that.

Hunter and DGB's lack of action is very frustrating. Hunter showed up well today when he actually got a pass. Going in I had said Buffalo can't cover the big fast WRs and other teams had success with lesser athletic freaks. 4th Q, a drive for all the marbles- DGB finally is in and gets a pass-pass interference. Next play, completion to Hunter. Why did it take so long to do it? and Why was that his goto call if he didn't do that all game long? Next, DGB is pulled. Hunter's maybe open deep (still developing) and the safety knows all too well it isn't going to him so he abandons Hunter and jumps on Wright's route.

We all saw Hunter as a rook. What was it? 10 Hail mary's and 5 lobs for TDs? We know he didn't really run routes and play like a typical WR but could out leap "everyone." How come 4 games in, with he and DGB, there's only been one lob thrown?

DGB was fantastic at blocking in preseason. Every draft mag should regret not pointing out this skill or somesuch. If they're going to do the NFL standard way of running on first down- then put him in. Douglas and Wright can't block near as well.

Stevens got called out by the announcers when he totally whiffed against Williams. Ol' Stevens did a nice job in the second half. They could have mentioned that's Poutasi's job he's doing OR that Meredith isn't doing jack squat if Poutasi takes on the G. It was shades of last year. As you know this means I want Matias in there. I don't want to compensate for a bad player.

I'm sick of Douglas. Why does MM trust him so much? He has a couple decent YAC runs that might skew his average, but I swear he goes down right away every time.

What happened to Delanie Gates? If this was 2014 he'd have had 10 targets covered or not. Didn't he earn the right for some of these tough throws in tight quarters?

Go for the jugular, killer instinct...whatever the term, Whisenhunt doesn't have it. Horrible play calls when they should have scored. Moved right up the field and then he's gotta get cute with his play calls. I didn't think this was Buffalo's D but on the play calls. When Andrews scored was the only time they seemed determined.

Wright unhappy, frustrated

Remember this is after Brown tweeted last week that he was looking for a way out and got benched this week. Not to ignore that he overruns plays, but ...players complaining is usually step two in the "we need a new head coach" process.

I suppose everyone will be listening for Webster's tone (he will say the right thing) during his radio spot this week. Step three is probably GM with negative vibe, right?

Yep.

Whiz is a loser. Very little winning in his career. He's a turd of a head coach, as is Webster a GM. They both need to go but Webster isn't going anywhere. Wouldn't be surprised they take the easy way out and promote LeBeau to head coach after the season.

The FO is rudderless, HC sucks, and Bud's kids don'g give a rat's ### about football. The outlook is bleak.

It's great that Taylor Lewan doesn't think his shoulder injury will require surgery, but if it's bad enough that they were discussing surgery that worries me. That OL minus Lewan could be ugly.

Who's running things now that Tommy is gone? They need to sell the damn team already.

The guy that was pres when Fisher was there is this year's president, Webster is VP. Still hoping for Peyton in 2016 whether it's a long shot or not

Yeah those darn facts(stats) are getting in the way

Someone else pointed out yesterday- in this save our jobs season for the GM and coach, Whis is really only playing two draft picks.

This is no consolation for Titans fans, but the team wasn't going to win anything this year and Whis is helping the team get better draft picks next year.

If they draft well in 2016 this could be a tough team to beat (assuming Whis is gone, of course).

while you're probably right, the division was winnable before they blew it to the Colts.

Just one presser(yesterday) listed on the Titans site for this week rather than the 3 or 4 normally open to the public by webcam.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Could be oops by website guy

Could be Whis wanting less critics or shying away or something...could be anything

this is updated and normal now

At some point, Whiz has to go. He can't win games. I mean, you can spin it all you want, but you have to win games.

Miami is a big one. It's a game we should win. A win there and perhaps there is hope. But if Tennessee loses, all the optimism is completely gone.

My biggest fear is Mariota getting beat up. I think he's a special QB in a not-so-special situation.

Whiz is not a winner.

Failing to score a TD given first and goal at Indy's 1-yard line is ridiculous. No creativity from this offensive guru. Lost by 2 points.

This week, punting twice on 4th and short inside the Buffalo's 40-yard line was very weak. Get that first down. Heck, on 4th and 2 at the 36 he could at least tried a 53-yard FG instead of punting. Succop has hit from that distance before. Coach sucks.

Failing to either convert for first down or score a TD from 1st and goal at the 11 is ridiculous. Kicking a FG on 4th and 2 at the 3-yard line when our D had been playing lights out is ridiculous. Go for it, Whiz. Lost by 1 point.

If Whiz had some stones this team might be 3-1 right now. He needs to go.

Just to follow-up on some Titans from this past offseason

Jarrod West(minicamp) is with the Steelers and Deon Long is with the Dolphins.

Both are on and off the practice squad regularly

With some displeasure with the regulars at WR, Long had oh idk a 5% chance of playing in 2015. West doesn't seem to have a shot but being built like some of the Steelers awesome talent at WR, being there could help him and maybe he'll land elsewhere next year

Taylor is hurt now, Luck was previously.

Neither went out of the game yet both have/will missed several games.

4 games, 2 QBs hurt. Ya don't want that for moral reasons but it does come with a top defense.

Titans are 3rd on defense in yards per game.

First/best in passing defense allowing just 166 yards per game

9th in sacks with 13 in 4 games(which is even better considering some teams have played five games)

Lebeau deserves some big big praise

Whis just threw Hunter under the bus.

That interception play to end the game...remember he took the blame for bad play call and said some of Hunter, now he just threw him under the bus. What a jerk move by a coach, cowardly.

Originally he said if Hunter had brought the DB deep like he was supposed to....HE DID! The Safety knew it was going to Wright and fell back off Hunter, to Wright, and totally read the whole thing.

Maybe call some deep passes to Hunter so it's actually believable.

Maybe not have Wright and Hunter run near each other and actually spread it out.

Maybe throw the blame on the rook who threw the darn ball.

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeez do I feel bad for Hunter
