Titans 2015 in-season thread (2 Viewers)

Eagles fans are always a bit excitable. Their hatred for Kelly's results still lingers even though they won and Bradford and Murray did well. Soooo with that, there's Kelly rumors this week of going to this team or that team.

Today was the first day I saw Titans mentioned

and the fitting followup "can't do worse"

According to a zillion people on twitter- Mount is out for the year with a torn ACL in non-contact drills.

He was behind Tuvai and Yannick all camp and somehow made the team. I hope he has a nice recovery and all but I lean toward he won't play for them again. Healthy, he got the "I was a draft pick" bonus when those two got hurt and he made the team. Overcoming an ACL as 3rd string when healthy...doubt it.

Lebeau was furious about the Bills 3rd and 23 success. Kuharsky has him saying "I'm very positive it will never happen again"

Whisenhunt said they'd replace Mount's roster spot with someone from the PS.

Most want to see McBride

I want Matias

Justin Staples is extremely likely though

Kuharsky points out the official that muffed the batted ball call was demoted from Pats game to the Titans Fins game this week

In a bind with defense this week and just can't go with Titans defense even though they're available. I don't trust any team run by whiz

I like top pass D against Tannehill who is either going to melt down like Vince or get it together.

Tops in sacks per game too

I'm going with Andrews(bec I need his small salary) and Titans D

Can you afford to pick them up and sit on them a week? Lebeau might convince you this week

I trust LeBeau but I don't like anything Whiz is close too. Really like their matchup this week but not Falcons next week. Titans currently 22nd in fantasy D

Another loss in a winnable game. Now 1-4.

Titans now with a rookie center as Schwenke is done for the year. Still some bad teams on the schedule but I still say they don't win three games this year. Likely another top 3 pick.

Maybe not.

See this is interesting because Meredith and Bell were tried at C because Gallick was looking like a bust. He learned G and then next week the talk was how he might be a total bust.

Preseason games were him at C.

Around cut time, some thought Fernando would have to stay.

He was cut and Panthers picked him up.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign someone or play Meredith there

LaCanfora says teams are in the market for TEs and mentioned Cook and Davis as possible trades. Titans need to jump in and trade one or two. Coffman is inactive every other week

The abundance of tradable TE depth has been obvious since preseason. If Webster were going to do something he would have already done it.

probably right

Mariota sprained MCL grade 2

Late to post it here.

During draft time they said he played thru sprained MCL at Oregon last year and knee might be concern, but it wasn't.

Weird that grade 2 (MRI image, no doubt in image) sprain doesn't affect him like others. He should be weak and hobbled. He kept playing. He was walking around complex fine today.

Definitely need some medical person to chime in. He should be worse than he acts with grade 2 sprain.

Jones was incredible and their secondary was horrible in preseason game.

I'm all over that for FF, but "scared" for the Titans

I don't think Freeman played, if he did it wasn't memorable. I do recall Ward doing well late.

Kuharsky did say Underwood and Strunk have hire/fire ability. That guy didn't read everything. When they made Underwood this year's pres and not few month temporary, he was given this control.

One thing in Webster, VP and GM, favor is if he fires Whis, he might be allowed to stay and use him as scapegoat(in this scenario)
I would hate that scenario. He deserves to be fired for picking Whis.

For perspective-Shane Ray has "grade 2 sprained MCL" and is out 4-6 weeks

I think he'd appear to stay and then once things get started in offseason, he'd be replaced

To throw some gas on this fire

Peyton met with Browns owner Haslam recently. He is also from TEN or had a son go there or somesuch connection.

Two angles have come from this-

VP position with Browns

Part owner of TEN

Neither is really discussing with the media what was discussed at the meeting, so read the articles with a grain of salt.

I only bring it up because if people continue to call his skills diminishing and not point out it's the same offense that didn't work in Houston, then this meeting could be something of significance in January.

He's due 21.5 mil in 2016 and in his contract is a clause where if he is on the roster at the end of 2015 then his 2016 salary is guaranteed.

If they are out of playoff race(doubtful) I guess Elway could cut him week 17.

It could be tampering and he and his salary go to the Browns in trade but...that seems so fishy and unlikely.

If the Broncos cut him before March they'd have to pay him like some debt, not against the cap. His cap cost would only be 2.5 mil in 2016.

Well.....yeah lot of rumors and chatter and flat out guessing. Zip zero zilch from Haslam or Peyton. Pick a tangent any tangent. I simply think that meeting is going to "come up" again months from now.

The line between a grade 1 and grade 2 sprain is arbitrary. Either way, there's no reason not to sit him for a couple weeks.

is it too early to discuss whether the Titans should take Joey Bosa #1 overall, trade down, or take a OT?

Ideally, they'd get Kansas City to overpay for the right to draft Cook or Goff.

IMO It's time to trade down and get lots of players and fill many holes.

I also want a new coach to review film and be forced to make a decision(and not wait to see) on Sankey, Hunter, Warmack, Bell, and Brown. As I understand it, they have practice film too so there's gotta be enough to decide. In some way, I would be OK with 5 picks for these 5, if they are the same position.

I would like to see something so simple but never done before. This weekend I think there's a big Titans reunion. Offer all of them a salary and add them to the scouting dept. As a scout or consultant they are just one opinion the new GM has to consider. Don't train them to be a scout. Show em' how to work "tapes" and let em' do what they will. I would bet huge $ they become better at drafting and that these guys could use the work and structure and all.

Just fyi this is quoted lately from PFT but it is MAY not recent

Second, the next distraction for Kelly and the Eagles (and the Titans) will be the inevitable speculation — which already has begun in some league circles — that Kelly is destined to eventually become the coach of the Titans.

Is this only because of Mariota?

yeah probably

I'm going to guess Cobb didn't look so good, didn't study or somesuch

#Titans worked out RBs Storm Johnson and Bryce Brown.
Probably just doing their due diligence, keeping tabs on possible emergency RBs. Teams do this, typically on Tuesday. The Titans don't have a RB need right now with Andrews, McCluster, Sankey, West, and Cobb on the roster. Fowler could probably do some emergency RB work, too.

It's hard to knock them for doing due diligence stuff, but I would rather hear news of them working out offensive linement.

Titans must have been "playing games" with Connor Neighbors.

Technically waived in August, they only announced today that they reached an injury settlement with him

http://www.titansonline.com/news/transactions.html

Now if he's feeling well, their tank of a backup FB (a top 5 FB) can sign anywhere.

Loved their preseason rushing offense with FBs leading the way. Shameful how little they use Fowler. And Neighbors...if ya can't find room for a FB that hits a LBer so hard he breaks his arm, what are ya really looking for in a FB?

While on the subject of FBs- Did any of you catch the Gmen using a FB as a LBer last week? I have always said it can't just be peewee, high school, and small college where FBs play LB too.

Titans need to give that a try. Did ya see Zach Brown stop near the LOS several times? That's Sankey-ish just on D. Blow it up! There's 10 other guys to pick up the pieces. The Giants used their FB to rush the passer a bit but mostly on very obvious rushing downs. He did OK and ya know what? They have one of the top run Ds.

Stat from PFTs game predictions section.

Extending back to ARI, Whisenhunt has one four of his last 33 games.
Whisenhunt's (and many others now) common rebuttal to extreme negativity is that they're two 3rd and longs away from being 3rd and 1. If people aren't too harsh, he seems to be more genuine with his replies

Other threads...Douglas out Sunday as is Mariota and Cox

Avery has practiced so I assume he returns

Griffin is questionable.

FS and top CB out against Jones...doesn't look good

The whole injured/reserve then settlement agreement stuff that I don't understand ended this week and there were a lot of tryouts and signing of camp players around the NFL.

Turzilli signed with the 49ers. There's no report of him trying out which is odd. As seemed predictable, Turzilli was contacted by Packers. I guess SF just threw money at him so he took it or...idk.

JR Tuvai tried out for the Broncos and has offers...which I assume means teams offering him a deal without even trying him out as he only went to DEN.

It's upsetting Titans didn't keep them and more upsetting that they're good enough to skip tryouts and get offers.

I like DeAndrew White a lot. Smith seems terribly limited for a guy with his measurables. Patton is soso. I could imagine Turzilli doing something in SF but mostly because of my displeasure with Smith.

Nothing about Yannick. Ravens D stinks so IMO they should bring the local boy in

probably right
They released TE Chase Coffman. Webster's incompetence is limitless.

I can't stand Rico

I'm so grumpy he is there and not Turzilli

This is upsetting too because he just replaced short quick fast Douglas with another. McBride I could have gotten behind as he needs to get experience and my curiosity and all.

Really though Walker and Coffman have played slot. So if he lacks confidence in DGB (who as far as I know, doesn't know the slot) put them there for the reasons he previously said- matchup issue.

Coffman has been inactive and released earlier with intents of signing him right back. Today though he changed his twitter to say "Leaning on the Lord for what's next" so I'm going to assume there wasn't a backdoor promise to be re-signed this time.

He has been so good for the Titans. He filled in very well last year. I didn't understand why he produced well and got no interest this offseason. In preseason he rocked. He did pretty well when he played this season. For his sake, I hope he's stirred up enough interest to sign elsewhere.

Several teams need TEs. Owen Daniels is terrible now. Broncos would be ideal for him.

GB keeps having TEs injured and Rodgers is just ok.

I hope he goes to a good team and paid his dues losing in TEN.

I'm real upset about this.

I think it's on Webster not to trade but on Whisenhunt to make the cut.

I can go back to late preseason and liked the team I (or Wyatt or PK or Glennon or MCM) drew up on paper with the plan Whisenhunt claimed to have and have done so so so far better at managing players than him. I imagine other fans feel the same.

It started with cutting Tavai and Yannick, signing the two LB replacements and them not doing well on ST- pretty much all a backup OLB job is. And also Ayers from last year.

We can discuss Fowler not being used. Riggs not playing. Supernaw not playing offense. Not making the most of the active players he does have.

Someone on another board suggested it and it stuck with me, maybe I said it before here, but...I would love to see DGB as an ace on ST. Shed a jam and run fast downfield...he does that. I don't know that he can tackle well but I also wonder if that big fast giant of a man is near you, would you run it or call a fair catch?

Like every team they also had "yes coach, anything coach" guys in camp that could probably play ST.

IIRC Fluellen got downfield fast and broke things up. He'd probably never get in on offense so this wouldn't be a good move but what I'm saying is a team goes thru OTAs mini and camp and all these hungry guys appear and give it their all. They have "no chance" of making the team and then hustle their way into creating a slim chance. Whis has got rid of all of them and/or made them inactive or on ps. On every single decent team in the NFL these guys are the glue that holds it together.

Giants using a FB as a LBer. BB loving Jackie Slater's boy and using him as WR/S all these years. The only coach's guy they had been using was Klug and he's barely been in on D nevermind at FB the last couple weeks.

Rico plays ST and always whiffs on the tackle. I doubt they even put him in for that.
