Titans 2018 (1 Viewer)

Kerry Coombs is Ohio State's secondary coach. He's been reported as signing to be on Vrabel's staff but no one knows what his position is. I hear ST coach

James Betcher got "congrats for joining the Titans" messages, tweets, and even a sign on his car. He signed with the Giants as their DC. Word is Vrabel wanted him to wait til after Senior Bowl and he didn't want to miss the opportunity. Most interesting is he actually took 100k less rather than wait a week.

Day, who was interested and offered OC job, got even more $ from Ohio State during the delay. Reports are anywhere from 800k to 1.4mil

Brian Callahan is released from the Lions and interviewing to be Jets QB coach and Titans OC. Obviously, we're the preferred job. Earlier they turned down the opportunity for Redskins to interview him. He flew to Mobile and interviewed. There is another interview after Senior Bowl but he seems likely to be the OC.

They did meet with Mariota's high school coach who is at the Senior Bowl. Pics online. Oddly enough, Lebeau was interviewed about him and all complimentary. (told ya so) I can't figure out if Lebeau just can't hang em' up or is gonna wind up being a consultant or what's going on. He flat out says he's retired. He also said he turned down opportunities. Anyway, I still might get my wish for him to be Mariota's QB coach. Saban and Lebeau impressed is a pretty good start for recommendations.

Remember I said Jason Michael's exit interview went well and he's been retained? He signed a contract (no position) and was paid in 2018 and then received notice he's no longer with the team. Andrew Brandt said (paraphrasing) Vrabel seems excited and a bit disorganized but maybe it's good he gets it out of the way now. It's not like he's hired a full staff before. He doesn't expect anyone in the NFL to take this negatively so we shouldn't read into it. Expect Vrabel (if he needs replacements) to hire right away next year.

Rumors and idk- Schwartz to be DC and Assistant head coach. There are reports he only had a two year contract and is free after Supe and reports that he has a three AND four year deal and Eagles won't allow any lateral move. Belichick gave JRob an earful about trying to take his staff members. JRob chatting with Tampa people a lot more than Pats people. I forget Cal coach and Washington coach's names but this is third year that he's spent lots of time with them. I think they added two Cal players last year, Muhammad and...idk. I don't know the connection but there's pics online again and it's definitely present.

Titans trainer have been retained by Moustache. Titans trainer is one of the best, if not the best, per injuries each year and has been with the team for a super long time.

Mascot guy has already posted pics of Titans at his gym. Umm they need time off. I don't know if that's completely a good thing.

Nothing wrong with hitting the gym a bit in the off season. Maybe nothing hard core but some light maintenance?

Did the Titans retain **** Lebeau? Or is that still up in the air?
Nope. Vrabel didn't want him, respectfully, had a somewhat brief meeting n all. He announced his retirement and then that he was going to sit down and meet with Vrabel to go over everything and anything to move things along smoothly. AND THEN he went to the Senior Bowl where he was seen with JRob and Vrabel.

Word is now that many of the former staff will be invited to interview next week. He won't. He will sit in on some though. It's looking like he could become a consultant.

On the radio, he supposedly said he's making vacation plans, wife is happy, and he turned down offers.

JRob said he and Vrabel heard it from Belichick that they didn't keep Lebeau. He's never once called in such a manner, but he did. BB is upset his pupils will be known as the people that decided Lebeau shouldn't coach anymore. JRob said he expects to get an earful after the Super Bowl is over. I'm dying dying dying to hear more of this and Mike Reiss has said he's on it, trying to find out.

Bruce Matthews is definitely interviewing next week. Munchak is not listed as an interview.

Coombs is coaching DBs. Deshea turned down job offer

JRob called the Murray reports ridiculous and that he hasn't even spoken to Murray

On Midday, Vrabel said he was gonna watch Watterson work out guys and get a workout from him in before agreeing to keep him. (Titans trainer) Gonna be odd to find out Moustache already re-signed him :-)  I do like that he wanted to be worked out by him, himself

Pat O'Hara QB coach, Shane Bowen OLB coach per John McClain...always fascinating to watch the ol' dog beat the other reporters on a scoop

Another tidbit from this article: Callahan was interviewed for OC and not offered the job
It was brief at a break from the Senior Bowl. It's a bit overstated to call it an interview. They were to meet this week and was called 'mostly pleasantries.' This one could very well be "snooze ya lose." I mean he was right there and an all-star game practice is hardly more important than an OC. Vrabel has this "on my time" stuff he says and I think it's naive and he'll never say it again. His thinking is like a parent saying "when I'm good and ready" but geesh guys have jobs and families and it's a bit much to hear as an adult.

Most of the former staff will no longer be interviewed.

Many reporters are wondering of player turnover now. They're offering me nothing and most weren't even at the Senior Bowl, but something has stirred them all up that I can't put my finger on.

If he rips this team apart as if they were 2-14, I won't be a happy camper

Agreed, the Titans need better coaching and a few upgrades, not a total overhaul. Especially by a first year coach with one year as a DC, and a total of 4 years as a coach in the NFL. If this were Mike Tomlin (or someone with similar acumen) I'd be more in favor of him doing what he feels necessary.

I'm all for him putting some personal touches on the team, just hope that's the extent.

Wait, what?

The same Lebeau that refused to adjust to NE’s offense? I’m sure BB and Brady are sorry to see the old timer go.

Reportedly he is joining the Raiders as a QB coach

Like the hire of Rob Moore

I'm fine with the top G as our pick, would rather the second best as he seems to be available whenever someone in a mock throws him in there. I really want the best MLB and every discussion makes me want that spot more n more.

It's ridiculous how many people are projecting the Titans to pick the top TE because they have no one to replace Delanie. How can you write of the draft and not know Jonnu? I was listening to one draft guy say he has the best punch he's ever seen, excellent blocker, nice hands, should have ranked higher last year.

what's with fans wanting another rookie WR?

I would love Jarvis Landry but that's it. Any position that they don't need, of course I'd take the best available.

I don't want Tom Savage, please stop. He's not the veteran presence I wanted behind Mariota and ...ugh it does make sense with his QB coach now in Ten but I don't want him

Good on "alternate" Delanie. Ha to the NFL jersey people for not having Titans jerseys and missing out. Did anyone else feel like a car was a drop in the bucket compared to their salaries? Maybe I'm old

Brynden Trawick didn't deserve the Pro Bowl at all but my goodness, you play a game and don't play a player at what he does well? What is that? If there are no kick offs and returns then stop putting a ST guy on the team. There should never be a "he couldn't do what he does well because of the rules of the game" quote about a player. Not a fan of going for it twice on punts and then Kern never punted. He should get more love for flying Brinkley in and paying for his weekend due to his snapping getting him there. It's the punter's equivalent of a QB buying his line rolexes. How about best long snapper rather than Trawick's ST spot? at least the guy would play his spot in the game

Cutting DeMarco and drafting a RB in the first would bug me. People are forgetting that almost all rookie RBs can't handle NFL blitzing defenders year one

I don't feel bad for the TEs that won't make it because Vrabel won't keep 8000 TEs and make them all the focal point of the offense. Faaa if Titans fans don't love that Sandwich guy

Cyprien is not awesome and did not have an all-pro year

McDaniels is not going to snub the Colts and come be the OC

Rishard Matthews is not old and done

Can't stand national people writing of the Titans and never watching or reading about them...so much garbage the last few days.

Like the hire of Rob Moore - as long as he doesn't bring the dropsies with him from OAK

I really want the best MLB and every discussion makes me want that spot more n more. - NT/MLB/G/C - NT only if there is someone that drops big time, otherwise to be addressed day 2

I was listening to one draft guy say he has the best punch he's ever seen, excellent blocker, nice hands, should have ranked higher last year. - idiocy. That said we may need a blocking TE  :scared:

what's with fans wanting another rookie WR? - more idiocy

I would love Jarvis Landry but that's it. Any position that they don't need, of course I'd take the best available. - spend the money elsewhere. Let's see what we've got in Davis, Taylor, Sharpe

I don't want Tom Savage, please stop. He's not the veteran presence I wanted behind Mariota and ...ugh it does make sense with his QB coach now in Ten but I don't want him - The Tom Savage that sucked so badly for the Texans? Who in 223 attempts had 125 passes caught, for 5 TDs. Who also had 6 INTs and this despite leaning on Lamar Miller and DeAndre Hopkins? No thank you.

Good on "alternate" Delanie. Ha to the NFL jersey people for not having Titans jerseys and missing out. Did anyone else feel like a car was a drop in the bucket compared to their salaries? Maybe I'm old

I don't feel bad for the TEs that won't make it because Vrabel won't keep 8000 TEs and make them all the focal point of the offense. Faaa if Titans fans don't love that Sandwich guy - Can he block like Craig Stevens? If so, I like him already

Cyprien is not awesome and did not have an all-pro year - Agree

McDaniels is not going to snub the Colts and come be the OC - Unless they don't offer him the job - which seems unlikely.

Rishard Matthews is not old and done - He's certainly not done - and he'll be 28 during the season. Is he worth 5m? Much more so than Decker was worth close to 4m

Can't stand national people writing of the Titans and never watching or reading about them...so much garbage the last few days.

I'd love Roquan Smith but highly doubt he's available.  Evans could work. But I'd even trade up for Smith if he falls out of the top 10. He's that good.

No thank you to spending the money on Landry. Develop Taylor and Davis, Mathews is the vet along with Walker.

I don't know how much Savage would bring, if he helps Mariota understand the offense better, cool. Backup QBs aren't exciting signings usually, but he's better than Cassell.

Keep Murray as the backup, change of pace guy. Akrum Wadley is the later round draft pick I'd like a lot. 3rd string plus some special teams as a rookie.

Dean Pees, huh?
It makes a lot of sense with the Pats background. I've always respected the Ravens D (sometimes greatly) but I lost touch with them some time after Marvin Lewis

I haven't heard squat today about the former coaches being interviewed. One guy thinks Spanos is returning to Pittsburgh

"Derrick Henry is not a Mike Vrabel type of back."

Almost makes me want to go back to stinking and having no one talk about the team.

The lack of experience on the staff Vrabel has hired, while being a new coach himself, is a concern.

It's official - Pees as DC, LaFleur as OC

Pees

LaFleur
I've said a lot lately that I wasn't going to like anyone that replaced legend Lebeau. Pees has already turned down a ton of interviews so I chuckled, yep Belichick taught him well. The Ravens have been a good D for a long time and I have good thoughts with an open mind about this guy.

Everyone is raving of LaFleur and I've gone from happy to skeptical. It's just that point where everything is good and it's like umm hold on a sec. He's inexperienced. If he's so special then why didn't they want him as a HC? What does that do for his and Vrabel's relationship too?

The Titans have been doing some sort of hybrid man blocking and zone blocking since Munchak. Munchak taught everything and used everything. Grimm had em' more like road graders based on Robiskie's bad calls, but they've all done zone blocking. Bucky Brooks said ignoring free agency, the Titans whole line could return and be fine. He didn't see a single problem with the offensive change. Spain and Kline are FAs with Jones having one year left. It's been widely presumed they were getting a new G and looking at Cs.

Dan Orlovsky projects a meteoric rise for Mariota and was all full of praise for the move. Titans fans have said for years that Mariota is special with quick passes so at least now that's gelling with national media folks.

I love that our team is getting discussed a ton at the Superbowl media week. Like I said before, I wish most would do some research before speaking, but the conversations should be all about the Pats and Eagles. To be discussing the Titans is pretty cool. "We" never get big name free agents. Hype and press could really help with this.

FWIW now the discussion is DeMarco staying so y'all better get ready for an offseason of that talk fluctuating back n forth.

If you're an old fogey like me and ever drafted Ruvell Martin in FF after he dominated NFLE....LaFleur was his college QB

Football Jones said:
Ok, thanks.
Came up again on PK's chat late afternoon. Several said he's not a zone blocking runner while PK said he wouldn't know til he saw it

Pees has been a coach almost as long as I've been alive. Lefleur is more of an unknown.

The qb coach's experience is as odd as can be and I don't know how to judge that guy. LaFleur's experience is almost exclusively as a QB coach. He has no experience calling plays except with Ashland University in 2007. His inexperience is a concern when things go bad but that's every OC's issue. Offensive plays are easy to call when things are going smoothly. It seemed Mariota got a good grasp of calling plays the last two years. It would probably be a good idea to let him call plays a little when things are bad.

It's not gonna be 100% like the Rams. The Titans have different personnel. I'd look for the same rhythm/short pass base but they're not gonna go away from Rishard Matthews who is one of the best on third down and they seem to believe Corey Davis is the next great thing so he's gonna get some sort of big time role. The Rams had a lot of balance from guys that didn't live up to draft hype but were put in a position to make plays. I think we need to use the word similar moreso than a copy of the Rams O.

Vrabel is not completely getting rid of smashmouth. He called that football 101 to lineup and overpower a defense. He liked some of what he saw from the line the last two years and said something like he wishes he could play FB with that group. He's also spoke of Bill Cowher as a fighter that taught players that some weeks were gonna be a fight. Don't get too carried away with the pretty rhythmic offense talk. That doesn't wholly suit Vrabel's personality or experience either.

Why did the Rams let the Titans interview LaFleur for a sideways move?
Shrewd move by the titans- they didn’t interview him for a lateral move- they interviewed him for head coach. Wonder what they talked about?

What do you want to hear? “Well, I’m a first time head coach and wanted some experience on my staff, so I’m bringing in Jim Caldwell”
