Titans 2018 (1 Viewer)

The Jets oddly enough cut the top rated FB predraft (I mentioned him months ago) so...hopefully the Titans are interested. 6-2 248 Dimitri Flowers from OU

Cameron Batson is the fifth WR? WHAT?

I already dislike Vrabel's moves and they've just begun

Bri, I'm a big fan of Wadley's, too...what are your odds of his outcomes: done, PS or gets a job elsewhere?
I'm very confident in him being a third down back in this league. Since Lewis is injury prone, I think the Titans are taking a very big risk hoping he clears waivers.

So, odds on a playoff berth look distinctively slim from this perspective. Here's hoping LaFeur's system is greater than great because so far we've seen bupkis and the roster looks pretty ####ed

Patriots announced their cuts. Time to go shopping.
New England Patriots

DL John Atkins, P Corey Bojorquez, RB Brandon Bolden, OL Luke Bowanko, OL Cole Croston, QB Danny Etling, RB Kenneth Farrow, OL James Ferentz, LB Marquis Flowers, RB Mike Gillislee, DL Trent Harris, CB Cyrus Jones, OL Jason King, LB Harvey Langi, DL Eric Lee, WR K.J. Maye, WR Riley McCarron, DB A.J. Moore, FB Henry Poggi, OL Brian Schwenke, OL Matt Tobin, DB Damarius Travis, TE Will Tye, DL Vincent Valentine, RB Ralph Webb, CB Jomal Wiltz
Oh look, there's Brian Schwenke......

"Julius Warmsley turned down Titans practice squad offer, not permanently."

That's what I got. Good for him if this works. He had a great camp, very good preseason, did well with the ones, Vrabel praised him several times, zero reason they should have cut him. Maybe if he waits a day or two he gets a deal elsewhere

Radio host saying he expects Rashaan to be starting from week 2 til 2030 made me smile. That's a good line.

Weeden is the Texans backup QB to DeShaun

Tanney beat out Davis Webb, last year's 3rd rounder the Giants supposedly had hope for.

Steelers cut Jones and kept Dobbs.

As ECB said, Falk signed with the Fins.

Titans need a developmental QB.

I want my Keenan Reynolds

What are the Titans' fans thoughts on Rishard Matthews as a fantasy asset?

He's always been a steady, reliable undervalued producer, but is this the year he is supplanted by Davis and Taylor, or is it probable he holds down a starting position all year?

they tried to trade him twice and he's barely practiced so I assume this is the year

Don't like the 4 added to the PS. Don't like his attitude about Wednesday's update being the first time he's gotta give an injury update. Don't like his not wanting to give as many pressers during the season.

Guy better win or he can kick rocks

Week 1 couldn't have gone any worse. Game took 7 hours to play.

Walker with a major ankle injury.

Lewan with a concussion.

Mariota with a right elbow injury.

The best description I read of why Vrabel makes you nervous- Because our best players either didn't play well, got injured, or he clearly made them furious on the sideline.

YES! THAT! Exactly that!

Titans coach Mike Vrabel said he expects Marcus Mariota (questionable, elbow) and Blaine Gabbert to both play in Sunday's Week 2 matchup against the Texans.
Maybe Vrabel should ask Hue how rotating QBs worked out for CLE last year. This sounds like a terrible idea.

Dennis Kelly is in bad shape and has been on an IV at least two days as they try to get him feeling better for gameday.

Spain has been the LT with Pamphile playing RT. Today Marz played LT and Pamphile played right.  The guard replacing Spain has been Corey Levin- he won an award in camp, so I guess at least that one is genuine.

The Titans are traditionally great left with lewan and spain. Last week, once Pamphile went in, they went right and up the middle to the right C/LG. Very risky considering Kline and Jones are their weakest linemen, but it worked.

I think they will go with l to r Marz, Spain, Jones, Kline, and Pamphile. That would mean Marz finally gets his chance. An awful guy at the combine, he had amazing stats in college with both his team rushing well (best?) and shutting down the best pass rushers.

My friend thinks it will be Spain, Levin, Jones, Kline, and Pamphile. He thinks Marz is ready to replace Pamphile.

The Titans line had a best of grade last week with 97.4 blocking in the passing game, but they didn't do well in a rushing grade per PFF. I thought Pamphile played very well and after a stink preseason, I was pleasantly surprised. It seems that is discounted by simply running away from him.

My friend said he heard great things about Levin all summer and this week was a lot of the same. He thinks if Kelly returns, it could still be Spain at LT with Pamphile in a backup role.

This is all guesses. Viruses do usually pass after a few days and that would be today. Two days to get rehydrated and back to normal...I could imagine Kelly playing.

What's also important here is line shuffling post preseason and still trying to figure out what is the best combo. Lewan held out and Conklin has been out since last year. They did actually have some time with this AND a team should have a pecking order by now. This could also be viewed as bad for Vrabel

A 5 WR set with Jennings and Adoree was unveiled this week

Jonnu had a great week and seems fired up

Finch and Wallace were excellent this week....might not play though.

I don't recall Gabbert making much use of his TEs. He may be an upgrade over Cassel but the jury is most definitely still out

Gabbert is still Gabbert. We know him. He's going to have to be the backup that tries his best to play mistake free while the offense runs and runs and runs. I'll even consider a dump or flip to Lewis as a run this week.

I think we got carried away and are considering Gabbert something he's not.

If he is being groomed to be something he's not then what we'll have is Vrabel doing the same crud that his idols Parcells and Belichick did when they arrived anywhere- create a QB controversy. That would be oh so stupid of him

So, Gabbert with a win. Nothing for Jonnu at all. I hope we can get to see Lewan, Conklin and Mariota on the field soon

I am so unhappy with this staff. Many of my writer friends are all full of rainbows and unicorns and I've never seen them this way. I guess they think Vrabel might be special so they're kissing up.

I had the self wonder of maybe I'm wrong but I'm not. I need only go to last year to find articles of displeasure about an unproductive offense. I can see them every year in fact.

Davis and his usage is all I like. I have an issue with the usage of most every player and backups otherwise. Tajae...he's had moments and probably is about right for a fourth WR. Jennings is only supposed to be in spots as a 5th and that's been good. That's it. Why are people praising LaFleur and Vrabel?

The OL coach has been phenomenal. It's possible they're the only unit to ever play great with 4th and 5th tackles two weeks ago.

The D was exceptional last week. Before that, the 32nd ranked pass D and yet one of the most talented units in the NFL. Not one gripe article. Has that ever happened?

What in curse did Vrabel do to Rashaan's confidence? Umm he was a monster this summer. The LB we've been waiting a decade for and ...what was that performance?

Matthews...umm how do you spend a minute with Belichick and not appreciate someone that converts 3rd downs? His trade value was whatever and now I bet they only get a sandwich in return.

10 camp awards, nine of those players cut.

Why did they sign Woodside? Guy can't play QB after 3 weeks with the team then dump him.

Why was it suddenly OK to risk permanent nerve damage to Mariota?

I don't get it. Not one thing is how people normally react. Its bonkers

I'm so annoyed we picked up the wrong guy from seattle.

Alex McGough was very efficient in college and PFF #s (sort of) really loved him predraft. He was excellent in preseason and even when he messed up, he overcame just like you want a rookie too. When they cut him to put him on the PS, they gave him 600k.

I had thought well that's all well amd good but they could still lose him if someone signs him to their active roster.

So when I saw the Titans signed former Seattle QB, I was so annoyed to see it was Austin Davis. He's a former Ram in my head and....yep. Wish we had McGough

With no reported injury, I wonder if Pamphile graded worse than Marz. Surprising to see him on IR but I can see the "just in case" value in keeping him there.

Matthews...umm how do you spend a minute with Belichick and not appreciate someone that converts 3rd downs? His trade value was whatever and now I bet they only get a sandwich in return.
Not even that

Rishard Matthews asks for his release

Matthews texted NFL Network's Tom Pelissero that the Titanshave told him they're granting his request and that he "would love to still play" somewhere.

The release is not official yet because there are some contractual issues, Pelissero added.
They probably want to recuperate the remainder of the signing bonus from his first contract.....

So upset to lose a top WR. Like I said before, he is wrecking the team to make it his own IN season rather than the offseason

Vrabel supposedly all over Conklin today. Replaced by Marz. I will flip if he drives him away

Rishard has been great but they'll be just fine without him. Taylor needs to develop.

I thought this during the trade talk time. However, LaFleur's offense and the NFL standard is a 3 WR set. I don't see this as one for one and I'm angry Vrabel and JRob are selling it as that.

I need only to look for quotes where Rishard and Davis were to alternate in the slot and outside. Quotes on Taylor as he practiced starting outside since the very first practice and more with the first team than anyone.

The offense stinking is not an excuse either. He was literally signed to improve upon Robiske and statistically he is worse. Identity-wise he is awful since smashmouth was at least a mindset and identity they could embrace.

Its really Rishard for Nick Williams or Tajae.

Don't forgive Vrabel for putting Rishard on the scout team. He ran that guy out of town. Whis didn't even do that with Zach Brown. You don't do that to a #1 that's earned the team's respect over the years. You walk in and try to figure out why, see his work ethic, attitude, and tape and then join in. If he didn't want him for speed quote earlier then trade him.

Kenneth Adams IV will not tolerate this stuff. If Vrabel lasts, he'll be fired next year when Adams is in charge.

The guy has been a straight up bully and that's not professional. Unemployed John Simon chose to stay unemployed rather than join Vrabel's team. We were this up and coming team in a great city just a year ago.

Don't lose sight of BB signing Simon and trying twice to trade for Rishard. The genius wanting them shows Vrabel's ego has taken over the rational part of his brain. Vrabel will gush over BB of you ask a Q and yet he is missing that BB wants the players he doesn't.

Last I looked 32nd ranked pass D and 32nd ranked offense. Last week the pass D stepped up as Sims (who they tried to trade) stepped in for Adoree. That was finally Pees showing me something. He's gotta keep it up. LaFleur must step up. JRob is no fool.

Rishard makes JRob look bad for giving a raise and not being able to trade. They had a third if he just entered free agency via compensation.

This was a playoff team. 32nd ranked anything is unacceptable.

I would bet huge $ Rashaan plays a ton this week and Vrabel's stupid weening (which its not its spoon feeding) quote isn't true. I bet grumpy JRob said you play my first round pick!

He was not happy yesterday and Titans fans need to think on that. We haven't seen him unhappy since Mularkey was fired.

Kenneth Adams is all facts and all business. They better have their ducks in a row by January. A famous legal mind won't fall for anything they spin

You seem angry for a fan of a team that's currently leading the division, having just beaten the team that beat the Patriots.

I don't expect to win this week, so you'll probably be able to come back Sunday evening and say you told us the team is heading down the tubes. But I'll refrain from casting judgement until the bye week. I expect the chargers to be tough and there's a good chance they're 4-3 then.

They're currently top 3 defense.

I am, yep. He's an intelligent man letting his ego make him a fool.

I'm angry some titans fans are forgiving of everything like this is a rebuild. We have been there too often and I adamantly do not wish to go back.

Its nice to know many Titans fans and JRob will be holding him to a standard of improvement. As JRob said, that's why he was hired.

Big second half to beat the Eagles today. Sitting at 3-1 and tied with the Jags. Colts and Texans have 1 win each. Offense still has a lot of room for improvement. @Buffalo next.

@Bri

Do you feel better today?

I'm as surprised as anyone that they won this game but it does show that they are capable of playing with anyone.

They'll show inexperience at times, their tackling needs to improve, I'm still disappointed that Henry isn't living up to my expectations, but I'm liking a lot of things from today.

I was pumping my fist happy at the end of the game. Mariota was great and somewhere in there I was just like ya know, this is my QB. I just love that guy.

I'm still very unhappy with the run game and the pass D. To not be able to run with their line and backs is pathetic. With their talent in the secondary and the pressure being applied well, how can they allow 3 300 yard passers in four games?

I have some patience but Vrabel better let Lewan and Conklin go beat some people up so Henry can get going. They're hard hat guys not pretty boys, but I do have some patience.

I don't like how he treats backups. He's rude and unprofessional and we know he will need depth at some point. I do like the cujones on 4th down and to blitz when he does.

I got to talk to one player this week and then a few more. It was a really special week for me. I'm not even writing this year and...it was touching. I have some more numbers now and can text even more players. Maybe ill write but for now, this is dreamy. To text some player on TV is so cool.

Wallace is being paid his salary so cut or not he is around and a call away. He can sign elsewhere. That's all I got besides stories. Not about news just chatting. Its all thanks to Antwaun. He says I'm the only one who believed in him and kept reading and liked my stuff.

Super happy with the win. Did not see that coming.

Would like to see them play like the last qtr and a half for 4 qtrs though (with more running....)

Official @Bri warning: Do not read - head may explode

Best job by a coaching staff: Tennessee Titans.

Mike Vrabel's group has managed to win a game started by Blaine Gabbert with a heavy dosage of Derrick Henry running the wildcat and a cornerback named Dane Cruikshank finishing as their leading receiver. They won a game in Jacksonville without scoring a touchdown and beat the defending Super Bowl champions on Sunday after trailing 17-3 midway through the third quarter.

Sunday's victory should convince the rest of the AFC of Tennessee's upside. Finally healthy and looking comfortable in new coordinator Matt LaFleur's system, Marcus Mariota recorded the second-highest graded game of his career on Sunday, according to Pro Football Focus, an assessment that sounds about right. On a day that saw Dion Lewis and Henry combine for 24 rushing yards, the Titans attacked Philadelphia's sneaky bad secondary all afternoon. Mariota threw for 344 yards despite at least four dropped passes. Mariota also led the team with 46 yards rushing, including a 17-yard run that set up the game's decisive moment in overtime.

Mariota was allowed to be the hero on Sunday because his coaching staff trusted him. Vrabel passed on a potential 49-yard field goal to tie the game in overtime in favor of going for it on fourth-and-2. Mariota rewarded that trust. It was the third fourth down Mariota picked up that drive, including a bullet on fourth-and-15 to Taywan Taylor. Veteran Rishard Matthews begging off the team last week could prove to be a blessing in disguise. Corey Davis looked every bit like a true No. 1 receiver on the way to 161 yards and the leaping, game-winning touchdown. Taylor needs to be a big part of the weekly game plan, too. The Titans' defense is undeniably playing tougher under Vrabel, led by stalwart defensive tackle Jurrell Casey. If Mariota can play anywhere close to this level moving forward, Tennessee is ready to become an AFC contender. Speaking of which ...

I watched again and I think I'd have given the player of the game to Mariota, Davis, then Kern.

The Titans lack of interest (and/or maybe it was a mind game to keep his contract low?) in Spain this offseason still baffles me. He was real good, mean. I think Casey was borderline dominant and Spain was awesome. He's got 39 starts and only allowed 4.5 sacks. If that isn't an elite guard, I don't know what stat could possibly be.

Titans made a move at NT which proved nothing yet but while rewatching, Logan is pulled in key moments. Pees seems to know now that JRob isn't very good at landing NTs.

Rashaan needs to keep playing a lot. He whiffed bad on a few but he is definitely a mack truck and we need one slamming into RBs.

I think Kevin Byard could switch from FS to SS this week but just a prediction. As I said in IDP, we may finally see Brown and or Ryan at safety.

Nick Williams will get a fine. In camp Vrabel he is not allowed to comment on player moves. He said he thought the Titans would bring back Deontay Burnett since he saw him in Nashville. Burnett is on the Jets PS so did he stop by heading to Jax? I would guess it's just that he thought he saw Burnett and not that he truly did. Either way, tells ya again how well Burnett did this summer.

Finch has been the most effective pass rusher in the NFL per snap. He is at 7 pressures and 1 sack in 20? 25? snaps or so. Correa didn't have a good game and I don't like him and think it's obvious why the Ravens let him walk. I would think Finch has earned more snaps.

Landry, who I love, has only done one move and sped past lineman so two if you count speed as one. It's pathetic that opposing teams haven't forced him yet but it's coming. He's gonna get hit and have to make a move.

This could very well be Orakpo and Morgan's replacements. The Titans plan was to have Finch play DE and he has lined up on the line of scrimmage. Last week he did a criss cross with Casey to get his sack. He clearly knows how to be a DL just like the draft (highest paid UDFA) reviews said. He's only 250 and is supposedly struggling to gain weight as he only gets stronger. What a weird problem. I guess it's not as easy as it sounds to get a guy in shape to gain weight. Anywho at 6-4 250 he has a LB bod and could be an OLB replacement but the plan was and seems to be to make him an End.

I have noticed a 4-3 and 4 man DL nickel more than enough to call our D a 3-4.

Marcus (gotta say again) never dove on his hands and he dove a bunch. That is so athletic to run and dive onto your side or side of shoulder and so aware and well thought out to not reinjure himself. That was so cool. He did not brace his fall on purpose. Loved it.

Taylor is diving if he misses a block. So he starts traditionally and if he thinks he's about to lose, he dives. I like it. Yeah he's gotta improve but that must be "look at me coach, I stopped him."

The holes aren't there for the RBs. They really need a FB but that aside, Henry isn't putting his head down and it might be because he needs to see more where to go. Lewis usually hits a hole and then bounces laterally. He doesn't have holes either and that's gotta improve. My problem is the number of runs to the right when their left side is possibly the best in the NFL this decade. Remember they averaged a best ever stat running around the left end last year. LaFleur has to have em' run left.

Jennings seems to have replaced Adoree and I don't think I want it that way. He knows the offense and ran it this summer, I'd rather he just sub in. What I mean is, he is clearly in at times and it is obviously going to him. It looks just like Adoree last year. Adoree needs to stop getting hurt so he can play O but just the same, I could predict it watching so a D will be able to and Jennings isn't good enough to overcome a predictable pass to him.

I think Davis still runs some bad routes. I think he now realizes and puts a cape on then goes after the ball. Too many endings of routes are not smooth, something is off. This could mean that he still has significant improvement to come.

Tajae looks efficient. I don't know where he got his confidence but that is one guy that is super sure of himself. I'm back to loving his big mitts snagging passes. He is slow and that limits him but...I'll take it as a third WR.

The shifts stink under LaFleur. I don't know that he's giving Mariota a read like Robiske and Whis did or even Dinger years ago. More often than not, a player shifts and the D literally does nothing :-) I mean no one follows him and mirrors. It's like ummm what were you gaining doing that?

Late in the game, Lewan played a sincere whistle to whistle and blocked (not hit, it was cool and rational not crazy) guys not involved in the play. He had a nice good boy vibe but yet his usual fired up way he can get.

As I wrote, Conklin wasn't a typical tackle, Smith was like the tackle last week and Conklin something of a helper. I figure thats a get your feet wet week. I expect he does his thing in Buffalo.

Butler has been burned by 8 bombs in 4 weeks. I think 3 were caught but that's just luck that the QB couldn't connect and he got burned. He is usually a C (overconfident word, censor) cornerback and he looks very tame. They gotta fix him up. Like Lewan, if he doesn't have his fire, he's not as good as when he does.

Pees' zone is still awful and why I blame three 300 yard passers in 4 weeks. Everyone is open over the middle or covered by a LB. The Eagles use their TEs over the middle so it worked at times but he has NOT changed despite their lack of success. Our LBs can not cover WRs. It has to stop.

Casey injured Ayaji, broke his back or his legs or... I swear I watched it like 20 times and I don't know how Ayaji crumbled like he did, from behind, and didn't get hurt. A body doesn't do that. As usual, he shouldn't be so big and fast enough to catch a back. Casey was phenomenal. That game probably got him his usual pro bowl. The Eagles tried so many guys on him and sometimes three and he still won the battle. Just an amazing game.

Sims is fine. I saw a few plays he allowed but I never thought he was a shutdown corner. We never let him develop but went from starter to backup. He still looks to me like "ohhh if only they let this kid take his lumps and develop."

I don't like Vrabel adding a P/K to the practice squad. Succup and Kern are excellent and their minds are perfect for "legs." I don't think he should test them or mess with them at all. He should know better.

Gabbert is in bad shape. Don't discard that he can't pass the concussion protocol in a week. That's not normal. I forget all those likely to be reinjured stats on concussions but I think he's super likely now that he was concussed so bad. (how to word) I still love Alex McGough who is on Seattle's PS and wish they'd add him. Anyway, the guys on Wychek's former radio station were also saying things re Gabbert not being well.

From NFL.com - among the contenders

Tennessee Titans (AFC South, 3-1)

Current end-of-season projection: Seventh in the AFC (but still "in" the postseason picture, for the purposes of this article).

The Jags are currently projected to win the division and the Titans are projected to finish seventh in the AFC. But it's important to note that the combined playoff percentage for the top six teams in the NFC is the same as the top eight in the AFC, meaning Tennessee is still very much in contention for the playoffs. Effective defensive pressure can have a greater impact on season win totals than a quarterback, and no defensive front has used different pressure packages more effectively than the Titans. Consistent interior pressure, as exemplified by Jurrell Casey on both passing and rushing downs, is schematically complemented by creative rushes, blitzes and spacing that have led to game-changing plays (e.g., Harold Landry's strip-sack against Philadelphia). As for the quarterback position, the improved health of Marcus Mariota could be the X-factor for Tennessee. Mariota improved on accuracy, scrambling and production while under pressure in Week 4, converting two fourth downs on a game-winning touchdown drive in overtime. If the Titans' offense can stay healthy, the efficiency of their defensive scheme and schedule makes a wild-card berth very attainable.
