Titans 2025 (1 Viewer)

I waited on my SF QB2, any hope Ward comes through for me? Callahan is more pass oriented, correct?
I like him so much as a last or very late pick.
I don't see a reason not to, at all.
Every FF mantra- talent, opportunity, athleticism...he checks all the boxes

What I've been saying is becoming a really common theme:
Why didn't Callahan "force" the rookies (and depth guys) to get good at blocking and special teams like every veteran coach has done forever.

(By good, I might mean decent)
They really could have to cut a decent player or two because they can't make ST work.

When DMR confirmed he made it, he mentioned he's still running with the ones.

Very late to have three TEs interchangeable

Terry McCormick said McCord was Titans plan B at some points during the off-season so he wouldn't be surprised if they claim him

Wyatt pointed out that any veteran on a roster week one gets paid for the year.
There's a number of twists to that that can be seen as negative or just think twice

Practice squad

Kendall Brooks
Ali Gaye
Cam Horsley
Jermar Jefferson
Mason Kinsey
Jordan Mims
Thomas Odukoya
Amani Oruwariye
James Proche
Isaiah Raikes
Xavier Restrepo
Andrew Rupcich
Trevor Siemian
Carlos Watkins

This is fluid. 4 WW moves today probably means four are bumped here tomorrow

I forgot Jahquan was the top vote getter for pro bowl KR til he was benched in December.

One caller today had a fair point- if he was out of the doghouse, why'd they try and replace him with Prosche and Dike. And why replace the only problem player they (almost) had? 5th? 6th rounder definitely did what was asked and met goals.

10+ years ago this would have been something everyone knew. Really interesting.

No one seems upset besides that one guy.

Really a sign of a bad team. We don't even have depth position battles we argue over.
Also a sign they probably can't withstand many injuries and 6-7 win season seems reasonable.

Discussion is the same among TEs- Gunnar won alot of fans over- and WRs- old starting over youth.

No practice reports. I mentioned Chestnut and DMR.
WRs still grouped as vets and youth
I got next to nothing

None of #Titans' recent cuts were among the 27 claims made by teams today, per NFL Network

Callahan and Borgonzi said Chestnut has had a good camp and is ready to fill in for Spears

I wouldn't read into Mullings not being mentioned.

Mullings hasn't practiced lately
About a week ago he hurt his ankle and Callahan said it wasn't a long term injury. It may have been that they planned this rest.

Mims replaced him. The journeyman is known for ST play but has been fine at RB this summer- very much looked like a journeyman.

I don't imagine they care too too much if Mims is the third back week one.

I got burned a couple times on DFS but if Mullings is out, I'll do so again with Chestnut. He's always been a bunch of short runs and then he breaks one. A lot of backs in 80s and 90s were this way. Last year, Pollard got what felt like 95% of carries and Chestnut barely touched the rock so he never broke one. Maybe the altitude and week one conditioning gets him a few?

If Mullings is back, as expected, I won't touch either in DFS. Mullings needs to improve blocking and ST to sit Chestnut down. I don't want a backup share even if it's a blowout.

If 27-17(common score prediction) and like 27-10 start of 4th Q. I could see Mullings resting the ankle or getting a lot of work to show he can pick up the blitz but it won't be with Ward. They're not risking him. Prove it with Allen then he can maybe play some passing downs the next week

Discussion on ESPN radio early this morning was Ridley is the only one with a role. No one else should feel comfortable and that they just might use a hot hand system until roles get established.
Some Cincy talk and how some of their better known WRs didn't have a good camp yet thrived being thrown to the wolves and that Callahan maybe just went with this approach.
It's really weird if true, but why? Why do they have to have 2 Lockett and 3 Jefferson get some high percent of snaps? Why not go with the hot hand?

If true, this might also be a clever way of Callahan limiting blame if the rookies don't thrive and need some time. He can coach em well and give em opportunity this way but if they struggle then maybe the GM isn't looking to blame him so hard?

Everyone was healthy for a Monday practice in shorts so we'll see on Wednesday.

Mullings still doesn't have a number. When Quandre joined they agreed he'd take 28 but they both still are. It's weird.

I don't know if it got lost in a million things to get ready for week one or if it is a negative sign

Callahan said-Pollard to get most of the work, Chestnut will back him up and Mullings could work in as well.

Sounds like 1,2,3 to me

I think many want to know if Mullings is a GL back

When the team was testing Snead in practice, Snead demanded Oliver.

Very interesting
He's watched for months

So Callahan apologized for some things you'd expect in his presser and yet again came across as a really good guy.
It was clear the players will hear it on some things like penalties.

He struggled to compliment the offense but he did his best and kudos for that.

He mentioned having the right players in at the right times a few different ways and how that's on he and the OC.

He about admitted to being hypocritical and will do as he preached all summer for next game.

Discussing on radio WRs rotation for spots and hot hand. James Williams playing a ton more as he only lost his spot two weeks ago.

He apologized to Cam for having the wrong people in for the audibles he was supposed to call if he needed.

Latham and Sweat are both wait n see Wednesday with recurring issues that should have been manageable.
Probably will say rest so truly that's Friday.

Former coach on radio noticed Ten yard line play call for Chestnut run...the OL jumped into pass block 🤣

He opined Daddy Callahan was definitely going to be discussing that play

It's fun to read the Broncos fans comments and post game writeups.
They're very impressed with Sweat and Simmons.
Glad they faced Ward now because game might have been different later in the year

Cam talked of first game and first time together on Sunday but then brought up it was their first time learning new offensive plays in a short week together.
Radio hosts went with that and were upset with Callahan- all summer to discuss and two weeks to install, how can there be issues with that?
Lockett ran 2-4 wrong routes per them and how can a veteran like him not know and not be ready?
So then the discussion comes to how was Dike and Elic supposed to be ready?

Coach Mac said rookies have too much to adjust to. He'd have played veterans (Oliver and Van) more just because they know what's what. It sets an example for the rookies and if he has to have a rookie ready, he'd be staying late with coaches and the staff would stay til they know he's ready.

ALOT of discussion about what plays were they doing then?

Coach said people exaggerating they're running plays they used this summer. There's wrinkles and twists.

The gist of the day is-
The staff looks bad if anyone isn't ready and they must absolutely must not let that happen again because that'll get them fired

Mullings didn't practice. An ankle is not hard to take care of and get healed up in a few weeks so there's something extra there.

Chestnut didn't look so good in his snaps.

I'd guess the Titans wishlist this week was to add a RB.

Jared Stillman is reporting there is a lot of friction between Titans team president Chad Brinker and GM Borgonzi.

They've known each other a long time and Borgonzi is Brinker's hire.

The Titans run a triumvirate management system that sort of became a five guy system this offseason.

Recent Titans have been known for bad QB play, bad WR play, Chig under performing, tackles stinking and questionable RB depth.

The followup topic here was a widely assumed angry "we are the same!"

I said during the game and after that it looks like the GM is making who to play decisions and/or Callahan is coaching to appease and keep his job.

I said something obviously happened because Callahan was all apologizing "we have to do better" and OC claimed everyone played great -literally everything- on Tuesday. It looked very much like a guy terrified he'd say the wrong thing and get his buddy fired or "company line" type odd.

BIG change is coming. Above doesn't just happen week one.

Guesses-
One of the former GMs starts to get involved because they had waiver priority and did nothing this week.

A shakeup trade or cut or both. I'd say Chig and Lockett are ripe.

A tackle signed today. I don't even know that it matters who but you show your boss you're listening.

I said WRs looked bad and had a lot of errors. Callahan, radio hosts, and WR coach have all said they will go with the WRs that started most in camp more often and help Cam. I'd put money on Van Jefferson playing more. It should be Oliver too but as the week went on he has been mentioned less.

The PS having returners was wise with Dike barely doing it in summer. Ya don't need two there after that game and after ST coach said he has confidence in Oliver and Chestnut as a returner backup. No one is getting angry over this but if there's a spot to use or to show the boss you're staying fluid I'd guess this is it.

Around the league there were a few players cut that went to PS and then played pretty well. Maybe "why didn't you claim one of them?" Maybe why didn't you trade a WR to San Fran? Idk.

On NFLN one guy said they are a Pollard twisted ankle away from losing a lot of games badly. Maybe that hit home and they wanted a RB added?

Amy Trask calling out Brian Callahan for not knowing the rules on Elic's elbow play is pretty huge.
The Titans don't get national attention and (I guess Cam?) now it's quite negative.

Jim Wyatt's mailbag has a real common bad OC/HC occurrence whether people want to admit it or not- if the public thinks they could have called a better game and subbed better with Madden, the guy was terrible. As a society, we jump to Madden. True or not, this is what we do.

On Sirius Jarvis Brownlee was brought up a few times- watch for that kid, up n comer, did you see him get in the backfield when they needed a play?

I'll mention Oliver in his thread

I woke to the radio saying "who else will the Titans bring in at RB. Pollard can't sustain this usage. He shouldn't have to"

On another board they're talking of Mularkey being the oddly most successful new coach.

He's the last one to have zero tolerance for bad play. He'd get em coached up and back in the game but you did your job or you sat.

Van Jefferson might be this team's Rishard Matthews.

Sooo I guess there's a good collection of fans that want benchings

Very boring presser today that was super predictable with the same tired answers during Callahan's time

Titans are adding former announcer Mike Keith to their ring of honor.

Idk that he's Harry Carey type adored legend but he's up there and it's amazing when you consider he isn't that old and can probably do it again for the Vols or elsewhere.

He's simply one of the nicest humans. He only wants to talk about positive stuff in interviews and when someone asks him something he looks so uncomfortable. He says "they have to do better" and that's about it. I've always found that interesting as everyone piled on some bad teams. During the best times, his saaaack calls were iconic and he's so excitable like a kid at Christmas and ...it just makes a win a little better.

He's such an adored guy. I don't think people realize how odd this is to be putting him in the ring of honor and that's sorta fantastic too.

ETA- on the radio they're talking how he once got 50k happy birthday posts.

#Titans CB Jarvis Brownlee has played 128 snaps and only allowed 3 of 4 targets for 61 yards.

Yes that's a 156 rating and 20+ ypt but if you "go there" you're missing that the league (Stafford and Nix?) now clearly considers him elite and is avoiding him.

The same reporter (Jared Stillman) that broke the story of a BIG meeting recently is saying he hears that Callahan will be fired soon and Mike McCoy will replace him.

He doesn't have a definition of soon from his source but said he thinks tonight or tomorrow.

Jared's a bit wacky and fiery but he knows former coaches and GMs and had Jon Robinson on his show this summer and... we'll see.

As I said in game thread, team pres was booed and told to fire Callahan by fans as he introduced Mike Keith for the ring of honor

PK says the press was delayed and delayed before going in the locker room and several players were gone by the time they got in

This wasn't true but wasn't so off. I'm good with the report. Very close.
After a meeting with brass, Callahan called a Tuesday presser and is no longer calling plays.

The QB coach will because he has more (any!) experience doing that play calling at the NFL lever and the OC does not.
It very much sounds like he got spanked, maybe even begged for more time.
He says things like thankful for the opportunity and needs to focus on and I'm the head coach so...

Calling the plays and designing the offense was something Callahan really wanted and loved about getting the job because he didn't get to do that in Cincy.

There's a ton of quotes from it, here's another "be involved in all facets of the operations process" yep sounds like HR wrote that for him if he were an ordinary man in ordinary job.

Brian Callahan emphasized he's not unhappy with his playcalling. Callahan is making this move to be able to better handle head coaching duties and be more involved in all facets of the operations process.

I literally just came here to find you.
Tell me what this means for Ayo.

Probably nothing new.
He was supposed to play a bit less to be coached up and more productive when he's in and the staff and Ayo have done that perfectly.

Since everyone on TV and radio still has issues with lack of middle of the field work and TE production, it's possible he runs more crossers as was suggested and done in week two.

I think he's completely safe and no one is messing with the good path he's on.

Probably not coincidentally, the Bengals had a lot of the same problems this year and especially last week.

I hate the H-back role and screens in the flat for Chig as a constant- mix it in, fine, I'd love him up the sideline, but doing it often does nothing. The Bengals do this with their TE and with their RBs.

The lack of commitment to the typical run game comes up for both but it's not really that imo. It's that's not how you use them. Give Pollard or Brown the ball and let them get outside on their own racing there. It's these cute fake handoffs to one, no hand it to the other- they just give him less time and fool no one. The shotgun handoffs are often not quick enough and up the gut runs don't look right from the shotgun. It's all too cute.

Both lines not playing well and there is a grunt mentality to some plays. Ya gotta feed the Hogs some and let em hit someone. Doing this with the backs is just abnormal at feeding time.

I say FB way too often for some people's liking but when Whisenhunt stunk and was too cute, adding a FB then and for years, sorta forced normalcy and a smashing vibe. You don't have to want a FB, but what I mean is that mindset that we're coming atcha is totally absent from both teams.

Now the DC and ST coach

This doesn't happen on a Tuesday!

ST is doing well so he essentially reiterated common stuff.
DC laid down the law about bad tackling so maybe a bit of change/subs is coming
