To me drugs are just money substitute. That valuable items with no weight, like ammo for weapons I don't use.
If you arent going to use something why not just sell it? I havent played in 2 years. Doesnt ammo have weight?
in New Vegas on hardcore I believe it does.
What else is different on hardcore?
everything. It's the only way to play NV IMO. You gotta eat and drink, it's basically survival. Jsawyer wanted to go ven further, hence his mods. It's the best you can do on console.
Doesnt sound like a mode I would like. I suppose its ok if you play sparingly but ill play for 8-12 hours and havingbto eat all the time would get annoying

There is no Arlington cemetery that I have seen and it's not a marked location either.

Some solid work tonight. Finished helping the rangers. Took the armor simply because I have enough weapons. Made like 3 grand on selling them map data. That rocked.

Wandered a little after that. Cleaned out Moira as usual. Up to about 20 grand in caps and still have enough weapons to start a war. Carrying around like 100 fingers now and the chick that buys them is no where in sight. Waste of a perk. I wish you could pay to change a perk somehow.

Is it just me or is killing Enclave scientists fun? They are up to no good they use humans as test subjects and they cower at the first sign of anything so you can walk right up to them and.... well you know.

I find myself wondering if 3 Dog will talk about what new thing I did. Funny.

Arlington takes a lot of moving through the stations in each area. I found it by accident when I got there. Neat place.

I know I asked before:

you must have a harddrive for the expansion packs, and a usb drive won't work, right?
A usb drive WILL work but you have to format it first.
my pants just got tighter.
If its xbox 360, the usb drive cant be any larger than 20gb. It will only read up to that amount on the drive.
wife got me an xbox 360 specific usb that is 16gb. as soon as I put disc in, it still says plug in hard drive into the machine.

My understanding is that there are some games the USB will work for and some that it won't because of software licensing and security. Fallout will not allow it unless you "jailbreak" your xbox and trick it into thinking the USB is a hard drive. I didn't have the balls to mess with that.

That's a shame. It's one of my favorite perks, since you do so much killing anyway, might as well get paid anytime you swing by that neighborhood. But you do need to sweep around the shack to clear out any critters each time. For some reason they have scorpions and yao guai spawning near enough to be attracted - and then Cruz will be in fleeing mode.

Whenever I play fallout I only like to wear the light black leather armor til I get the power armor and I only like to use conventional weapons. I hate the energy weapons and always sell that stuff. I lile to walk around in the leather with only a rifle, shotgun and a 357. Ill throw the occasional grenade.

Anyone else have their own tendencies or play style they usually stick to?
The funny thing is I usually play FO3 kind of western (sheriff duster and Lincolns repeater) but I don't care for New Vegas that much.

I do. Since I don't play with homes I'm always calculating weight to value ratio. Things with no weight are the most valuable. When I reach a trader I get the food and ammo I need and sell according to the heaviest I'm carrying.

The problem there is most likely that its an xbox specific usb. Get a regular usb drive and format it after you plug it into the 360. From then on it should read it as another hard drive.

I totally forgot about this mode on NV. The sad thing is I beat NV when it first came out, and for some boneheaded reason, gave it away to a student. Or else I would fire it up and play hardcore all the way.

I have saved the entire skyrim game on a usb drive. So its probably just vecause its an xbox specific usb telling the system something. Just use a regular usb drive and format it on the 360. You can have as many as you like as long as they are only 32 gb max. I have 3 different ones.

I never did the armor training but I found the experimental armor and since it was special it allowed me to wear it. I guess there is a glitch there because then I was able to wear armor. So since I found that I've been only wearing the Tesla armor with the sheriff's hat from megaton. The armor is almost impenetrable and the hat looks cool. I have probably thousands of caps in other armors in my house but don't use them. 8 made a killing last night at the satellite tower south of Raven Rock.

Enclave everywhere and a ton of dead people in the tower that were being experimented on. Had to make two trips. .. With Fawkes.

Ugh. Of course. Told her to get the xbox one since I thought it would have less problems. (and of course they cost more) Got it to try GTA 5, and the same didn't end up working in my crappy machine anyway.

Do you have any idea how much data the Fallout add ons need? I have the game of the year editions for both 3 and N.V.

If you goto the marketplace, they usually tell you how much memory each item is so you can know how much youre downloading.

I wandered around for a bit, couldn't find it. Figured I went a wrong way in the Flooded Metro, so I went back to the beginning (good thing I did, as I just bolted through the first time, and I missed a lot of decent guns and ammos in lockers down there) and still ended up in the same spot. I am sure I am missing something simple. I thought maybe I needed to get down into another part of the the metro from Falls Church, but didn't see anything.

The one for Luck I believe. This one, the lucky 8 ball, and the lucky eyeglasses are must haves for me. Luck impacts everything and once I max out at 9 it seems like I'm "Critical Hit' everything.

I don't know. I just can't get into video games anymore. They just seems to be for the kids. I could never understand why my dad wouldn't play vids with us as a kid. Now I get it. It's a total waste of the only resource we can't get more of....time.

you don't do anything that is a waste of time that makes you happy? tv shows, movies, posting on an internet forum, fantasy football, etc?

cool, you don't enjoy it anymore, but it is no more of a waste of time than the 20 other things we do to escape or entertain ourselves.

Yeah, not sure when it happened. I used to get up at 6:30 on Sunday mornings to go play Madden with my brother until the 1:00 pm NFL games. I guess I got old.

You can get FO:NV on Xbox Games on Demand right now for less than $5. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Fallout-New-Vegas/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802425307e0?nosplash=1&DownloadType=Game#LiveZone

I imagine this eliminates the ridiculous load times at higher levels.

PS3 has USB ports too. Can you use a USB drive like this on the PS3? Anyone?

Yes. You can actually use an external hdd for it. Has to be formatted to fat32 though. Google it to see how.

All this chatter is making me want to explore Washington D.C. again. To me, the atmosphere presented by the PIP BOY radio and light in the subway tunnels of D.C. is only surpassed by that of the city of Rapture in Bioshock.

Interesting. I just picked up an external HD, but to backup all my work files. Don't know if I want to drop another $80 on one just to make Skyrim load fast.

that's interesting, I usually play Vegas. Ive done a play through of FO3 and enjoyed it including all the DLC but never went back to it after I got done with the main story. It felt very linear to me and the story wasn't written as well as it could be, in the vanilla version anyway. That you have to get yourself kilt to fix the water instead of using your radiation immune friend Fawkes is a huge plot hole IMO. Do not get me wrong, the game was amazing, I just think new Vegas is more interesting. Characters, story, factions, quests all are pretty great. Also I live in Vegas so driving by the old Mormon fort, or climbing black mountain is a real thing. I also think the reputation system is much better than the karma system because it actually affects gameplay. Factions will hate your guts forever if you play them wrong. Gun and ammo modding and actually having sites on the guns is better too. In the end both are amazing but I keep going back to New Vegas over and over. Wish they would make a non-janky version for ps4. Would be nice to play all the DLC instead of only 2 per gameplay due to memory reasons.

Fair enough, although PCs offer a lot more functionality than just games. I personally work from home several days per week which is a functionality that will last for years beyond the time it can no longer handle the latest games.

A roku stick ($40) will cover the Hulu, Netflix issue (Blu-Ray is a dying medium so I don't see that functionality as any sort of benefit).

What about the cost of games? You can purchase a top shelf game about a year after release for under $10, how long does it take for a top of the line console game (e.g. Last of Us) to hit that price? It seems like one could build up a massive backlog of games that would last long enough for it to be cost effective enough to buy a new PC and start the cycle again.

I am definitely interested in a console so your points in favor are appreciated.
I rarely pay full price for anything. Well except Elder Scrolls games. And maybe an FO4. But I have a huge backlog of games right now. I could not buy another game for months and be fine. Of course part of that is the free downloads each month. And I don't have to buy anything extra to cover Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. I paid about 175 for my refurbed console. I added a hard drive for less than 50.00. What gaming rig could you build for 235.00? And have it still be up for new games 5-6 years later? To me that's the value prop. Yes I lose access to mods. I'd say that is the biggest drawback. But I don't really miss them as I was never a huge mod user to start with.
Fair enough. So how much do console games get discounted? I can expect a PC game to be $10 within a year and down to $5 within 18 mos.
I buy almost all my games used. So it can drop pretty quickly because of that. If you mean new in the package then it really depends on the game. Truly marquee games can take a while.
No I mean how much do they get discounted (new or used)? Alternatively how long after a game like Last of Us (or a similar game) is released will I be able to buy it for $10 or less (new or used)?
GTA V is half price right now used. About 5 bucks more new. Hasn't been out that long.
Okay. Now let me be a little more direct. Do games ever drop below $10? I know they do free games every month so how recent are those games? I recall reading about a few very cool titles in the actual video game thread.

BTW this is why I was opposed to the dedicated FO thread, because things have a way of tangenting all over the place and now I am not sure if we should move this conversation to the other thread and on top of that I am probably going to forget which thread I am having which conversation in. That's lame.
Yes they do. But it depends on the game and it's popularity. I can't give you a time line. I have found very new games people seem to like in the 10 dollar range a couple of months after release. I see games that have been out a couple of years that haven't.

I agree it's lame but no need to move this. That thread was never really overrun and a small subset of people were pissy that they weren't getting the attention they thought their posts deserved. But here we are so we will run with it. Tangents don't bother me as it's all part of the natural life cycle of a thread.

I wore the merc armor from killing those guys until I got the Winterized Power Armor. I am not huge on energy weapons although Gatling Laser is fun. I like grenades but with followers you have to be careful. I do enjoy the missile launcher. I guess I will pretty much whatever is at hand.

Although I do have some go to's. I like the Terrible Shotgun up close. I like the Chinese Assault rifle for general use. The Gatling laser as mentioned comes in handy on groups and hard to kill types.

Arlington does exist but it's a bit tough to find. Glad I skipped the finger thing. And yes killing anything Enclave is fun. 3 Dog is a little slow sometimes. I forget what it was but there was something I did a while ago he just got around to mentioning.

I know its wears down quite easily, but I love the Alien Blaster. that and the android's plasma rifle are the reasons I bump my energy weapon grade higher.

w.t.f. !!??

broke down and looked up a tip to get to Arlington. they make it sound sooo easy. go in to flooded metro take the right tunnel, get off in Arlington. must have missed something, since I have spent an hour + running around down there now.

saw another way from falls church north. cant wait to get done with work now.

I played FO3 for well over 200 hours and still never got the hang of the subway tunnels. Every time I thought the way point was showing me how get out, as soon as I got out the way point would switch pointing me back in the door I just came from.

Tip one, don't follow the waypoints.

I run with two builds -

1a. Sydny's 10mm

1b. Lincoln's Repeater

1c. Mines/grenades

1d. Sniper rifle

1e. Emergency Weapon: Fat Man

2a. Plasma rifle

2b. Gatling Laser

2c. Sniper rifle

2d. Emergency Weapon: Fat Man

I like two standard guns, 1 long range sniper, and the Fat Man for hairy situations.

I have the dlc but not a harddrive. That's coming next week. I did an alternate save just to see what the mission was like. The action was great. The final payoff though was meh.

I think the main story is too short. The last mission should be about 5 or 7 missions from the end. You should be able to see the water getting clean and become the sheriff of the land or a mercenary variation and protect it and slowly rebuild some kind of real society. That would be a more pleasing ending to me.

Yeah, you need to play it with Broken Steel installed.

I like grenades but with followers you have to be careful. I do enjoy the missile launcher. I guess I will pretty much whatever is at hand.Although I do have some go to's. I like the Terrible Shotgun up close. I like the Chinese Assault rifle for general use. The Gatling laser as mentioned comes in handy on groups and hard to kill types.
I run with two builds -

1a. Sydny's 10mm

1b. Lincoln's Repeater

1c. Mines/grenades

1d. Sniper rifle

1e. Emergency Weapon: Fat Man

2a. Plasma rifle

2b. Gatling Laser

2c. Sniper rifle

2d. Emergency Weapon: Fat Man

I like two standard guns, 1 long range sniper, and the Fat Man for hairy situations.
What is that first 10mm you listed?
Weapon you get off of a character. I forget the exact details. I was supposed to help her do something but she got killed so I just took it off her corpse. If she makes it out alive though you get it as a reward I think. Now that I am level 20 I walk around in tesla armor with a fully repaired assault rifle, combat shotgun and plasma rifle. Mainly use the combat shotgun while the others help with distance and large hordes of bad guys at once. It's particularly enjoyable using the shotgun close range on the head or face of pretty much everything.

Although when I did the last mission I busted out Vengence for that. I have never fired a mini nuke now that I think about it. Frag grenades and vats work for me.

FINALLY got to Arlington. I think as I was running around in the dark top-side, I was showing things on the map, but not really exploring them. I think I was just avoiding going back down in the tunnels that night. If you get to Falls Church, there is a short metro tunnel at Falls Church North. It looks like it is a dead end, but there is a bigger room with a couple Ghouls and there is a tunnel off to the back right of the room. Takes you right to Arlington.

Got the Luck bobblehead at Arlington house and shot up some Chinese ghouls at the food factory. Loaded up on some chinese assault rifles, so that was good. One of the bastards snuck up on me somehow, and startled me enough that I actually jumped off the couch a bit.

After that I hit up Canterbury Commons and took care of those two freaks. Added some caps to a couple of the traders to see if any of their wares would actually get better - never had done that before.

I did that for the weapons guy. His stock got a little bit better but in the end you can pick up everything he sells though.

What is this? I'm not understanding...

If you go to Canterbury Commons you can invest in the trade caravans by talking to the guy running the place. When you do it gives them more money to get stock and so they have better or more stuff. I tried it with the weapons guy. I think I gave 500 caps and he got some better stuff next time I saw him. Oh yeah and you get a discount from the vendor as well for your investment. Don't know what happens is you really throw some caps at them.

Ah, I remember that. I think I did that but I have never been back since I killed the ant lady. Guess I will have to check out if my investment paid off in any way - not that I remember what in the hell I invested in.

You can catch up with them at any settlement. But it's easiest at Megaton. Although as you mentioned with it being creature feature every time you exit they seem less inclined to stop there.

So I think this generally happens if you have a random encounter and them lead them back to Megaton. My theory is that if you get attacked again and lead them away before killing them that they won't show up again. Just a theory though.
