Tony Romo: Broadcaster (1 Viewer)

he was dialed down from a 13 out of 10 to about a 6 today.

someone definitely told him to tone it down and stop stepping all over Nantz. it was almost a "normal" Nantz broadcast. Romo wasn't blabbering non-stop, trying to predict every play, attempting to lead the broadcast.

you could sense Nantz was getting pissed the last couple games.. but he's too professional to show it.
I noticed right away that Romo dialed it down quite a bit.  Actually was much better too.

Romo is some nice easy listening after they shove 30 minutes of Deion and Irvin on you.
Enjoyed Steve Smiff telling Irvin he was going to "whup your ###, straight up" when Irvin made fun of his pants.

"Pump fake inside then throw it deep outside here Jim"

[Moore literally pump fakes it inside and throws it deep outside]

Furley: IT WASNT THAT HARD OF A PUMP FAKE HES A ####### HACK

someone at corporate got to him. you can tell in his commentary and tone. he's low key taking potshots. talking far less. he actually let Nantz do his intro, setup the call at the beginning of the game, etc. i bet Nantz wants to strangle him. this is Jim's show. he's the star. he didn't get where he is by not slicing a few achilles along the way. he probably has a goon squad protecting his territory.

Romo is an overzealous 11 year old who just got ungrounded from his tablet who thinks that he can make "clever" remarks that his mom & dad won't pick up on.

that said, it was nice not having him blabbering all over the broadcast the last couple games. he still has plenty of moments that remind you he's there and half sober but all in all he wasn't a net negative last night.

listening to a Charles Davis or Chris Spielman call certainly is no treat. he's probably a cut above them but calling him great is like finally breaking up with the chick who slashed your tires, burned your clothes, slapped your mom and spit in your mouth.... only to start dating a girl who cuts herself when you don't answer her texts within 11 seconds.

it's different but... still curious why people want to rub their balls all over his stubble.

at one point "they're lined up to run this ball right. they're going to run to protect Moore here"

Moore takes a 7 step drop and throws deep left.

i could have  guessed, too and without the video game noises and giggling.

This is turning into a dumber thread than anything I could have started.

Romo is way better than what Phil Simms would normally say:

"Well, Jim, I was gonna say that Manning would throw the out route there."

"Jim, he did exactly what I was thinking he was going to do."

I have to say I enjoyed the broadcast last night. Romo actually enjoys the game himself and TBH he reminded me somewhat of Madden. Full disclosure: I generally disliked Romo as a player and I generally pull against the Cowboys, so him winning me over is begrudging, but he is a good listen on tv which in sports these days is rare.

it's the first time that i watched him deal with a truly crummy game and it was kind of fun. he obviously couldn't wait for it to be over and that's how most of us felt. it felt like he was suffering like the rest of us.

I enjoy watching games with Romo as an announcer. He has a bright future in front of him!

Really disappointed to see you of all people going soft on Romo. He's a disgrace to broadcasting and to organized sports in general. And I predict he WILL be held to account for his many frauds. We need only to be patient.

if Obama weren't still in office we would have sent in the troops to defend this great nation

After being forced to sit through Trent Green for an entire game, I am reminded of the awesomeness of Romo.  Green had gems like this one.  In a standard running down, the Vikes go play action pass and Green offers the following commentary after the play: "The Viking had a run look, faked the run and that opened up a short pass downfield."  Wow, thanks for telling me exactly what I just saw.  I never would have figured out why the quarterback stuck his hand out like he was going to give it to the running back AND THEN NOT GIVE IT TO HIM!  MY MIND WAS BLOWN AND I COULDN"T FIGURE OUT WHY THEY WOULD DO THAT!  THANKS TRENT!

Tony is calling Dallas today for the first time and has not one time referred to them as "we".

Good job Tony!

I think Furley went off the deep end with this, but I must admit I thought of him and smiled when before the half Romo said Garrett generally likes to run it on 3rd and long from inside his own 20.  He couched it quite a bit ("We'll have to see if he changes his strategy here") at which point Dak threw two passes to get them about 70 yards in 20 seconds and then ran it in for a td.  Better than just saying, "They're gonna run it here Jim!" and being wrong.   But neither he nor Nantz acknowledged that Garret indeed HAD changes his general typical strategy.

he has dialed his shtick way back. still gets caught up sometimes. you can tell he forgets what his bosses just told him not to do. like a puppy dog that knows it shouldn't mess on the kitchen floor, but by golly, gee whiz the doorbell just rang and i'm so excited that i can't control my own bowels.

not predicting plays guessing as much as before. reeled his constant chatter down 50%. isn't trying to take control of the broadcast. it's most obvious in the opening minutes when he lets Nantz set the stage... whereas in the first few weeks he would talk 11 minutes straight. half wondered if Nantz had a stroke, and the EMT's were working on him on the floor next to Romo but the show must go on.

still not a fan. he's too obnoxious drunk uncle for me but i can understand why people are calling him the greatest of all time to ever do anything. it is the age of social media after all.
