Proportionally allocating greater funds to minority education seems to be one of the most benign ways possible to governmentally compensate for systemic racism. I would think if you oppose that, then I would guess it is unlikely that you support any methods of doing such.

Hollywood will be the death of themselves, there's nothing they can develop that the rest of the sane portion of our country can't stomp out.

Remember, they voted for Hilary in droves.

I'm still unsure what throwing more money at the problem will do when we already spend more money per pupil in the inner cities than almost anywhere else.

Just...there's a systemic problem in education, and even though my brother heads one, it might have to do with...

unions.

Additional funding should be based on financial status not race.  The idea that poor white kids have it better than poor black kids is a fallacy.  Poverty is poverty.  Treating it differently based on race just fuels racism.

LA Unified is way too big to manage effectively.

This has nothing to do with Hollywood or the movie industry. The city involved is not Hollywood, but North Hollywood, that despite its name, is in The Valley and not anywhere near the city of Hollywood.

Plus what happened was a result of a court order that came down years ago to desegregate the school system - so George Cloony and friends had nothing to do with that (nor did anyone voting for Hillary last November).

And how is all that WINNING going for you?

The real problem is, as I have pointed out in other threads, is that California needs more money!! You Trump fans in particular are not paying your share. Send us cash.

Stop bringing common sense into the thread please. Thanks!

Courts make race based funding a ok.

I live in L.A. - poor white kids in The Valley in North Hollywood do have it a lot better than poor black kids in the ghetto like Watts or the violence and crime infested Compton.

Why would poor white kids get the same funding as wealthy white kids, but poor black kids get a 30% bump over both?

Local issue for LAUSD, which the citizens of LA can hash out.

There's a JW Marriott in Santa Monica that has big balconies with ocean views that's pretty awesome if you're planning a trip to the area.

Always interested to know what the supremacist types are focused on.
I am not sure why you must do this, but this is horrible rhetoric.  This is the exact opposite of a Supremacist arguememt.  This is a fundamental principle of this country of equal protection under the law which became a staple of our Constitution after the Civil War.  We will never have a color blind society as long as the government keeps putting people in different buckets based on some concept of race.  We are all a mixture of lots of people and the whole concept is really silly.

I think we're doing pretty good. I don't really care that much about healthcare. I'm healthy.

So, basically a good middle school is complaining because money will now go to another school - where it will help those students?  Is that the gist of this?

"I want my kids's school to be above average, I don't want them going to a below average school - that is for someone else's kids!"

- every parent everywhere.

No. The parents at the middle school are pissed because they are losing staff and the amount of kids per class will be going up because they have too many white kids. That's the gist of this

There are 15 pages of schools that are over 70% minority in LAUSD - Link

Why doesn't the legislature rewrite the school funding formula?

It might cause a problem with the court ordered desegregation or perhaps an issue like this hasn't risen before or if it did, it didn't get any publicity. And the impact doesn't seem that severe from the article, a few teachers laid off and some larger class sizes, but doesn't seem to have the catastrophic impact that some are suggesting.
