Top 5 no-skip albums - your personal list (1 Viewer)

I’m not trying to convince you to like it. It’s on my personal list. I don’t think perusing the phone and live-posting is the way to enjoy it. I enjoy it most when I’ve cut off all distractions and just enjoy the instruments and harmonies. YMMV.

Angling for content creation. Appreciate the good sportsmanship here.

Did we lose you, GM? Or are you eating chicken and drinking yr wine.

Eric Burdon & War - Spill The Wine (Live on Beat-Club)

N.W.A...straight out of Compton

Not even the best NWA album. It is an iconic album and set the tone for Gangsta rap but the production aged poorly and if you can't skip that terrible Arabian Prince disco track something is wrong with you ;) . Jokes aside, it's a tough listen in 2025. Efil4zaggin is definitely their crown jewel and probably Dre's best album production wise (just edging out The Chronic).

Nothing comes close to this on SOC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0v6OywGWSY

DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince he’s the DJ I’m the rapper

MC Ren’s last verse on she swallowed it is… as the kids say, diabolical.

Tried to think of a couple not mentioned yet. Different albums for different moods.

Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends
Stop Making Sense
Sly and The Family Stone Greatest Hits
The Velvet Underground & Nico
Champagne Jam
Brothers in Arms

The wallflowers first album
You may mean their second, Bringing Down The Horse, as that's the one with the hits that broke them.

They have a self-titled album that came out 4 years before Horse and it didn't get much buzz. "One Headlight" broke them big in 1996.

Thanks. Forgot about that first one.

I sometimes wonder how he didn’t become more popular. I guess Robert Zimmerman shoes are probably too big for anyone to fill

A firm but pleasant disagreement here. Straight Outta Compton had pop sensibilities with Ice Cube and songs like “Express Yourself” and humor like “8 Ball” with Eazy that Efil just totally lacked.

It’s okay lil bro. Dre has my back:

“To this day, I can’t stand that album,“ said Dre, who co-produced the entire album with DJ Yella. "I threw that thing together in six weeks so we could have something to sell out of the trunk”

Once you create something and release it to the world you run the risk of losing control over how it's received and judged. See it all the time.

Sounds like someone doesn’t appreciate Dre’s crown jewel that runs circles around SOC sonically. Also assuming you didn’t listen to the album much as Ren stepped up and filled the hole that Cube left and then some. I’d argue the breakup was the best thing for music. We got the best NWA album and Cube went on probably the best solo streak of any hip hop artist with 4 or 5 classics in a row. Everyone’s a winner including the audience 🏆

I purchased Efil two days after its release. I think it was the second rap/hip hop album I'd purchased. Public Enemy's It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back was the first.

I was disappointed that it wasn't nearly as good or as cool as Straight Outta Compton, which had the benefit of having the police song that can't be named but was perfect for blaring from the back of the baseball bus (yes, hip hop jumped the shark and into white boys' arms a long time ago), the utter insouciance of "8 Ball," and the then-unheard of driving force of the title track.

Ice Cube was also my favorite rapper at the time, so I sorely missed him on Efil. And Eazy would never be as vital as on Straight.

Anyway, mad respect for your opinion; it's just wrong. Heh.

Is your basement YouTube? Because you can also find it there.

Forgot about the debut. self-titled album by Arc Angels. Doyle Bramhall II, Charlie Sexton, Tommy Shannon & Chris Layton (Stevie Ray Vaughn's rhythm section from Double Trouble)..produced by Little Steven. Don't think I've ever hit the skip button listening to it.

The Cars’ first album

Beastie Boys Paul’s Boutique

That Cars album had some all-timers on it... But I can't click fast enough past most of the rest of it. Really uneven for me.

But yes for me on Pauls Boutique. One of my favorite albums... Can't remember if it's been mentioned or not yet here.

I dunno bro. You remind me of my college roommate who had the double boxed set of Scarface on VHS and probably watched it over 100 times. When debating what was better, Scarface or Carlitos Way, he was so programmed by his many Scarface viewings that he couldn't appreciate the cinematic brilliance of Carlitos Way which is easily DePalma's better film. Sure Scarface has many memorable moments and great for clips but as a whole Carlitos Way is a much better piece of work.

And if you love PE and Cube, then I hope you didn't sleep on Above The Law. They were like a West Coast PE and Cold 187um pretty much mentored Dre in becoming the producer he is today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQz6lvh9dKI

And if you love PE and Cube, then I hope you didn't sleep on Above The Law.

I haven't heard of them. Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately, I realized at about age nineteen or twenty that I had sociopolitical issues with both artists (PE and Cube) that would leave them as a youthful folly rather than instructive and personally vital. Then again, I listen to RTJ and billy woods and other assorted guys that are nowhere near my outlook on life, so . . .

who knows?

Let's just say, that track wouldn't have survived the final or even the first cut on Efil4zaggin
