N.W.A...straight out of Compton
Not even the best NWA album. It is an iconic album and set the tone for Gangsta rap but the production aged poorly and if you can't skip that terrible Arabian Prince disco track something is wrong with you

. Jokes aside, it's a tough listen in 2025.
Efil4zaggin is definitely their crown jewel and probably Dre's best album production wise (just edging out The Chronic).
Nothing comes close to this on SOC

A firm but pleasant disagreement here.
Straight Outta Compton had pop sensibilities with Ice Cube and songs like “Express Yourself” and humor like “8 Ball” with Eazy that Efil just totally lacked.
Sounds like someone doesn’t appreciate Dre’s crown jewel that runs circles around SOC sonically. Also assuming you didn’t listen to the album much as Ren stepped up and filled the hole that Cube left and then some. I’d argue the breakup was the best thing for music. We got the best NWA album and Cube went on probably the best solo streak of any hip hop artist with 4 or 5 classics in a row. Everyone’s a winner including the audience
I purchased
Efil two days after its release. I think it was the second rap/hip hop album I'd purchased. Public Enemy's
It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back was the first.
I was disappointed that it wasn't nearly as good or as cool as
Straight Outta Compton, which had the benefit of having the police song that can't be named but was perfect for blaring from the back of the baseball bus (yes, hip hop jumped the shark and into white boys' arms a long time ago), the utter insouciance of "8 Ball," and the then-unheard of driving force of the title track.
Ice Cube was also my favorite rapper at the time, so I sorely missed him on
Efil. And Eazy would never be as vital as on
Straight.
Anyway, mad respect for your opinion; it's just wrong. Heh.
