Top 50 Sandwiches - Ranked by Scoresman (2 Viewers)

Oddly Baltimore my be my favorite sandwich town. There is not much to like about baltimore. But man they got some good sandwiches. Baltimore Pit Beef may be the least known and best sandwich out there. Crabcake sandwich. And the Italian area has awesome delis.
I completely forgot about crab cakes. Not much better than crab cakes made from Chesapeake Bay Blue crabs.

#34 - Chopped Cheese

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Made on a grill with ground beef, onions, and topped by melted cheese and served with lettuce, tomatoes, and condiments on a hero roll.

Spent a couple days on a sandwich mission one trip to New York and this was a target since I've never seen one outside of NYC. This one is as amazing as it sounds.
Sounds like a burger..on a roll. What am I missing here. Never had, nor seen one. And I was just in nyc.

#33 - Shawarma

Country of origin: Turkey 🇹🇷

Flatbread with meat (traditionally lamb) cooked on a vertical spit. Additional fillings include vegetables such as tomato, cucumbers, onions, and pickles, and a sauce, often yogurt- or tahini-based.

My go to order at most Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurants.
Now this might be the manchego moment. :hippling:

#30 - Reuben

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, topped with Russian or Thousand Island dressing, on rye bread, then grilled. Creamy coleslaw replaces the sauerkraut in some places.

I would rank this higher, but I'm not the biggest fan of sauerkraut. I still love everything else about this sandwich and will eat one regardless.
I have no issues with this. It’s damn good. But the stupid 1000 island gets old about half way through. I like sauerkraut, but too much of it, is just that, too much.

#37 - Roast Pork Sandwich
Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Roast pork sandwiches are a staple of numerous sandwich shops throughout Philadelphia. The bread roll is typically topped with sesame seeds and loaded with a generous spoonful of pork juices. It is then stuffed with either sliced pork roast, roast pork chunks, or pulled pork, along with broccoli rabe (or spinach), and melted cheese such as provolone.

Had this alternative to the cheesesteak at a local philly cheesesteak place. Loved it as an occasional alternative to it's steak sister sandwich.

Had one at Dinic's in Philly and was life-changing. Now one of my favorite things to make at home.
This is what I have been talking about!!! Thank You

Have you ever wanted a burger, but just couldn't face the effort of biting through a patty?

Well, good news.....

One of my favorites. I love sauerkraut but unfortunately my stomach no longer does. My gut health has improved over the past year but I'm still wary of pushing it with certain foods, like sauerkraut and raw onions.
A great deli on Long Island used to make a turkey reuben that was amazing too. Went out of my way for lunch there.

Lobster roll update

It was the hot buttered style served in a hot dog bun. It was good but it was also $25

Think I prefer the cold, again, not something I get in Michigan too often. I know there is a local deli that does a Lobster Roll week maybe I will hit that up next year

They also had a fried lobster po boy, I was intrigued but already had lobster roll on the brain

#26 - Thanksgiving sandwich

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Thanksgiving leftovers in sandwich form.

The sandwich everyone has the day after Thanksgiving. I like mine with Turkey, Stuffing, and a little spread of cranberry. We also make this artichoke bacon tart and sometimes I will stuff a little of that in there.

How about 2 slices of pizza face-to-face - sandwich?
@shuke - hey

No, that's GM's shtick.
My bad. I now have found GM's vid in the eat-off thread, but I thought it had originated with you mabye in GMTAN. Mental notebook not always reliable.

It originated by him calling Sbarro's stuffed pizza a "pizza sandwich". He literally thought it was one pizza turned upside down on the other. This was like 20 years ago and I have been making fun of him ever since.

Dare I say that hot lobster rolls have too much butter? At least the last one I had, it was overpowering.

#25 - Panuozzo di Gragnano
Country of origin: Italy 🇮🇹

"Italian sandwich made with simple pizza dough, the bread is baked in a wood-fired pizza oven, and it is then sliced lengthwise before all the desired ingredients are tucked inside. Then comes the final touch - a second, brief time spent in the oven - a step which gives the bread its distinctive crispy exterior and allows for the filling to blend perfectly with the bread.

Although the original filling consisted of pancetta, mozzarella, and arugula (rocket), nowadays, the choice for panuozzo stuffing is limitless, offering a wide range of both savory and sweet stuffings depending on the customer's choice. Typical ingredients include different varieties of Italian cheese such as provolone, smoked buffalo mozzarella, or Grana Padano, Italian meat products, polpette (meatballs), mushrooms, salsiccia and friarielli (sausage and broccoli rabe), and vegetables, while the sweet versions usually contain Nutella, gelato, nuts, and powdered sugar."

This is a wonderful Italian sandwich, not really found in the US (that I could find). My stepfather's mom was the stereotypical Italian Nonna and would make these for us with mostly pizza style ingredients like fresh mozzarella and various meats.

#24 - Patty Melt

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Consists of a hamburger patty, pieces of sautéed or grilled onion, and Cheddar or Swiss cheese between two slices of bread.

Two slices of bread instead of a bun and pretty specific toppings distinguish this from the hamburger.

this one seemed fine. Im also a big butter fan (shocking I know) so it would have to be a lot for me to think it’s excessive

Maybe it's because I am from New England, but if I make a list of sandwiches that get messed up the most, this is #1, nothing else close.

You can eliminate about 80% of lobster rolls I have ever seen just by looking at the bread they use.

Big fan, but this is one that can be very hit or miss. It’s also pretty rare that I would order it instead of a burger, but every now and then I get a craving for one. Or if we have leftover burgers at home I might make one

Funny story, shortly after college I had to run out with a buddy / co-worker on a job. Told him we could stop by this bar nearby that I had been to before for lunch
Forgot what he ordered but I had ordered a patty melt and the bartender (who was also the cook apparently) told me it wasn’t really her specialty but she’d try. IIRC it came out ok but I was definitely worried

Found out later from my brother that it was primarily a drinkin bar for the UAW not too many people actually order food from there

I have dreams of the Herb Caen burger from Bill's. Such a simple burger, but so so good.

I had one in Maine that had way too much mayonnaise. What are you doing over there, @Thorn

Find it interesting that view as distinguishable from a burger. I always thought of it as a specific form of burger. Louis Lunch, where the burger was invented, also uses two slices of bread.

(I don’t care if burgers are in or out, or patty melts are in or out — just find it interesting in terms of how think about classifying them.)

#22 - Chicken Parm

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Breaded chicken cutlets in a roll with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese.

Still have a weakness for these and will order often from Italian delis.

I didn’t rank it, only because i usually don’t see it in sandwich form too often
If I was including it it would probably be somewhere in this range

Here in Portland, we have a serious lack of Italian Delis. There are a few restaurants and trucks that also offer Italian style sandwiches, and the choices are usually down to a regular hoagie, a meatball, and a Chicken Parm.

#46 - Egg Salad

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Egg salad is a dish consisting of chopped hard-boiled or scrambled eggs, mustard, and mayonnaise, and vegetables often including other ingredients such as celery. It is made mixed with seasonings in the form of herbs, spices and other ingredients, bound with mayonnaise.

I occasionally get the itch for one of these which makes it my favorite of the "Salad" sandwiches.

I think if I was ever served an egg-salad sandwich that contained scrambled eggs I would throw it back. I have never heard of this... regional perhaps? I have only seen egg salad sandwiches with hard-boiled eggs.

Also, personal preference, no celery please. I don't want the crunch in the sandwich.

Ugh...I was going to post about my favorite chicken parm hero in NYC and looking it up and saw they are permanently closed.
As old school NYC as it gets. Place was always packed at lunch. That sucks. Glad I got to go one last time when we went back last year.
RIP Park Italian

#20 - Tomato Sandwich

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Fresh tomatoes, salt, and mayonnaise on white bread.

Possibly the simplest sandwich on the list. Got into these recently and I make Kenji Lopez-Alt's version. White bread toasted on just one side, fresh beefsteak tomatoes sliced thick, and kewpie or homemade mayo.

Sub fresh ground pepper for the salt and I'm with you.

The salt is there to bring out more of the tomato flavor. It's not optional. I do put pepper on mine though.

#21 - Club

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Triple-decker sandwich made with sliced turkey or chicken, bacon, tomato, and lettuce; usually contains mayonnaise.

I love a good club and order it more often than I should. Always satisfying.

big club fan, back in the day that was my go to hangover food if I got up too late for breakfast

usually a safe sandwich choice too if you’re traveling and unsure of the quality of the place you’re at

My only complaint is sometimes they’re stacked too high and hard to eat

My #9 sandwich FWIW although now I think I may have it a bit too high

Just a few ingredients short of being a good good sandwich

I just barfed in my shirt. WTF man?

It's definitely a thing. With amazing tomatoes, it's one of the best. I wouldnt make with supermarket tomatoes.
