So, these forums have been going for about 20 years give or take, with some of us along for almost the entire ride.

Got me thinking... it's a crazy different world now then back then.

No iphones... or even smart phones.  Wifi was just getting started, and many if not most of us were on dial up. Was MMA a thing yet? Or did people actually still watch boxing?

So, what are some throwback threads/topics to reminisce about the old days...

Like: Need new cell phone - My Motorola StarTAC is dying... should I get the new Nokia (want to be able to play snake)

Or...

Why had flying become so difficult? Seriously, I need to get to the airport like at least 30 min before a flight now!

Or...

Will we ever have a black president? I say it's at least 30 years away... but we'll elect a Woman within 15, for sure.

What are some long lost threads from yesteryear that we might have posted back  in the day (speaking of flying, this was prior to @Otis adventures with Flight Attendants - beck, we might have still called them Stewardesses)

I remember starting a thread/ poll on ol yeller asking which would happen first, a woman President or black President. I think the majority voted that a black man would be elected first.

Interesting.

Bet no one thought that black man would be a Kenyan, though. :coffee:

Thread that did not exist 20 years ago:

What social media accounts do you have?

Getting a new car - satellite radio and GPS worth it?

Even though both exist, I thought more people would be watching the internet on tvs than watching tv off the internet.    I also thought we would all have our jetpacks by now.

I really wish that the Ol Yeller 9/11 thread was saved somewhere. I remember that being the best real-time source of news.

"Where can I get the best deal for a new pager?"
The Motorola T-900 two way text/email pager was just invented (or about to be - this literally gave me a heads up in fantasy football since no one had wifi and I suddenly got web alerts whereever I went, could email for trades and #### whenever as well)

Another thread from days past:

Any day now! I hear FBGs is going to allow pics in threads. Better late than never!

Recommended topic title: “My answering machine tape is all twisted and I can’t find a pencil to fix it with.”

Need to set up an email account. AOL vs Hotmail vs something called Gmail. Who ya got?

Just got a mobile phone, is $2/minute a good rate for phone calls? Seems a little steep.

My buddy is raising money for this new startup. They go to Spring Break and film people, then post those videos to the internet so people can show their friends. Should I invest?

it was codenamed "Dragon" internally.  I believe it was originally developed in Ft Worth.  I remember it hitting the markets in 1999 or so.

This is what the cool kids used back in the day: Pagewriter.  Paved the way for RIM, who did a better job of enterprise e-mail.

Still have mine.

So, funny web-related ditty from 5 years prior...

1993 (maybe 94) and my friend HAD to show me this website... well, the ONLY place on campus that connected to the world wide web thingy was the computer lab, which he ran.  So I go down to the comp lab and get up in the "command center" and what does he have to show me? Playboy.com.

I looked at him, and I'm like - this is the stupidest #### ever.  I mean, what am I supposed to do? Come to the freakin' public computer lab with everyone in one room and jerk one? I mean, web porn has zero future, dude.  I'll just rent a VHS and wack away in my room.

Um, guess I wasn't quite the visionary on that front.
