Trade deadline - what offensive player is going where? (2 Viewers)

I would not be happy if I was a Minnesota fan.
Explain what their options were today and how they could have made a better move after crawling back to 4-4
They ain't picking #1 overall next year, Dobbs takes a little heat off an immediate QB need
I think it was a terrific move by the Vikes

Were they supposed to pluck Tua from Miami on the last year of his rookie deal?
I would love to hear more a I appreciate your posts on here.
I can't figure out what QB was even available, they found a guy that has led his team every week this season.
Tons of snaps under his belt, lands on a more talented team presently

I like Dobbs chances to be honest
I just don’t see them going anywhere.

So, why give up anything, unless their goal is try to squeak into the playoffs this year.
It was a 6th / 7th round swap. Dirt cheap and well worth the risk.

Dobbs trade seems to say, we want to compete for a playoff spot.
We will resign Cousins for 2024.
We will once again be looking for a future QB with a mid to late first round pick.

It seems to fit the Vikings story line.

It's still probably better for the evaluation of all the other players to have at least a cromulent quarterback.

Dobbs traded to Minny
Blech. Why bother if that's the level of player?
Totally disagree, Dobbs leaves. a 1-7 dumpster fire behind and actually looked decent in several games, some not as much but he has more weapons and OL/Defense to work with than he did in Arizona and he has a ton of snaps under his belt

With Cosuins gone for the season, I actually believe this is a brilliant move by a team that just crawled back to 4-4 after an 0-4 start
Addison and then JJ returns soon hopefully, TJ Hockenson

Don't be blinded here, i don't root for the Vikes but I watch most of these players and teams when the Phins aren't on live, also like some of the things I've seen in Dobbs
Don't be so quick to dismiss him as trash
In light of what happened with Cousins, at least the Vikings made a (EXPLETIVE) Move!
I'm pretty sure you root for the Vikes, it's understandable how you feel right now, lick those wounds because Dobbs is going to lead you into battle soon

Good Luck!!!
0-3 start

Yeah to be fair I haven't spent time watching Dobbs with my own eyes. Just lingering disappointment that we're going to hand the keys to a stacked offense to a journeyman with little success.

Hall could also surprise I suppose.

I'm guessing the Vikes eke out just enough wins to move themselves out of contention for one of the top QBs in the draft and not enough to make the playoffs.

I think they are now looking at resigning Cousins for 2 years in the off-season with conditional money based on his recovery.
I like your posts, your game thread contributions on the Vikings, I read all of them since I usually fire up the threads.
I don't want you to feel depressed, and I'm aware there is a step down and will be some truly awful looking plays some of the time
-First of all, good opp to assess the Head Coach here, if he can coach Dobbs up a little and manage to even finish .500 after losing his starting QB, maybe the HC is worth keeping

Is Dobbs gonna be the guy that pushed you all into a deep Playoff run, absolutely not right now.
But as I pointed at, a 4-4 start is not going to get you all into position to get one of the best QB prospects next year, but the good news is it's a deep class and there will be guys like a "Levis" that magically drop into the 2nd Round

I think it's a terrific move for the situation the VIkings are currently in. I hated Adam Schefter's smugness last night when he said "The Vikngs will have to make other plans at QB"
No **** Sherlock!!!

What about a corpulent one?

Correct me if wrong here but it seems Dobbs was better earlier in the season with a valid RB in James Conner. With the Vikes backfield being what it is - not very good - will Dobbs be able to make much of a difference? Fantasy wise, will he be able to support 2 pass catchers? No idea, but the defenses in that division aren't as good as the NFC west so maybe that's a reason to hope? (Addison owner here)

If true - that is fine.

You paid 45-48-52 players $225 Million to compete this season
Do you think the 51 left standing after Kirk Cousins goes down, how do you look them in the eye and just

Step into a football locker room sometime, those guys don't want to hear that NFL fans think they have no chance, it's pure business for many players in the NFL, it just is
You can't even game plan if you don't believe in your QB, i think Dobbs will be welcome with open arms and it takes some of the heat off their QB situation
They can start negotiating immediately with Cousins for 2024, give him a 1 year deal, help him rehab
There is a silver lining somewhere and I am determined to get to the bottom of it

No, the Vikings are not Super Bowl bound but the remaining 51 guys can breathe a sigh of relief that their hard work is recognized and the front office is standing tall with them, that goes a long way into the locker room and the attitude on Sundays from the 51 they need to WIN

MoP:I have no idea the total number of players on an NFL team, just guessing based on what I hear

TBH Dobbs has proven very capable. And very capable of leading an offense with little prep / experience in an offense.

It's also possible he has some experience with the offensive staff there
Yeah that seems to be the selling point. He's started games. Ok, but it's not like he has excelled.
You're not going to get a starting QB that "excelled" in trade. Competent starting QB's are hard enough to find. People don't trade good ones.

If you go by QBR--and I'm not telling you that's the end all be all, but it's a metric to compare:

He's better on the year than:

Howell
Wilson
Love
Watson
Ridder
Daniel Jones
Fields
Zach Wilson
Kenny Pickett
Bryce Young
Tannehill

That's 11 QB's--he's in the top 2/3's of starters based on QBR. You're going to say "LOL Those guys suck!" But you're not getting a top 10 starter in trade. Some of these guys are getting paid stupid money. The Vikings aren't trading for that. Maybe they'd rather have Rusell Wilson's arm, but they don't want his contract.

Had the same reaction as a Cards fan that Vikes fans are having now after we traded for him very late in camp (Colt McCoy was presumed starter).

Dobbs was much better than I thought he'd be given zero time with team. We traded for him Aug 24.....he was starting 2 weeks later Week 1 Sept 10

I do think MN pass catchers overall upside take a nose dive. Dobbs has been better than quite a few NFL starters this season

If Mattison and Akers weren’t droppable before they certainly are now as Dobbs will run the ball very effectively.

Thanks to everyone for talking me off the ledge. I'm still disappointed but will try give Hall and Dobbs or even Mullens a chance which I always was going to. Just had to have some temporary disappointment.

wut?

He's better on the year than:

Howell
Wut

Dobbs: 157/266 (59%) for 1569 PaYd, 8 TD : 5 Int, with 47 rushes for 258 RuYd and 3 RuTD. He's lost 4 fumbles. 81.2 Passer rating
Howell: 206/308 (67%) for 2146 PaYd, 13 TD : 8 Int, with 24 rushes for 130 yards, 1 RuTD. He's lost 1 fumble. 91.1 Passer rating.

In what universe has Dobbs been better than Howell? They've both had 9 turnovers, and Howell has thrown for 577 more yards and 5 more TDs. Dobbs has 128 more rushing yards and 2 more RuTD.

Howell has been the better NFL QB, and pretty obviously so. Also worth noting that Howell has done it behind a horrific OL, and has been sacked more than anyone in the NFL. 41. The next highest is Daniel Jones at 28.

Obviously game flow will dictate but I'd be very surprised if they didn't move to a much more run based offense.

Both Dobbs and Cards RBs have been able to run the ball this season. Cards are 4th in league in rushing YPG and 2nd in YPC. Dobbs being dual threat obviously bolsters that.

I personally would bump up the Minnesota RBs and downgrade all Viking pass catchers

I’d like to see it because I have a share of Mattison and Akers and they have been putrid so far.

I agree, though I'm not sure there's much to upgrade here unless the Vikes trade for Zeke or have a Dalvin reunion.
I'd rather have Akers over Zeke, who is so 90s.....oh wait....
Anyone - my point is they're not gonna get it done with what they have. They seem to have not cared because they were going for Greatest Show on Turf 2.0

Now Cousins is a doorstop, so that's not a viable plan.

IMO the Vikes may not win another game this year.
