Travis Henry. Marijuana. Suspension? (1 Viewer)

Adam Schefter was just on 850 KOA and said it is true. He is unsure what the penalty is due to Henry possibly rotating out of the drug review arena...

Denver Broncos' running back Travis Henry has tested positive for marijuana and could face a one year suspension! The teams leading rusher has previously served a four game suspension from the NFL for violating the leagues substance abuse policy in September 2005 as a member of the Tennessee Titans. Can we please stop the jokes and post actual fantasy football content? If this is true when will Henry serve suspension? Week 6?Young is obviously going to start if he is suspended but who is next on the depth chart? Mike Bell (concussion???) or Cecil Sapp?
Dont forget about Andre Hall. They kept him on the Roster because of his last pre season game with the Cards.Probably going to be the Selvin and Sapp show with a sprikle of Bell and Hall. When Shanny doesnt have a clear cut starter, his RBBC can get ugly

So is it Young, Sapp, or Bell that is going to benefit most? I have 3.5 hours til waivers are processed and I can get Young for $1.
I am pretty sure Young benefits the most, because he has been getting most of the leftovers from Henry and has done well. What I don't know is who next? Sapp, Bell, or Hall. Hall is listed currently as RB3 after Young on the team's depth chart at their web site. Sapp is listed as FB1 and Bell as FB2. But Bell is the one of all of these guys with the most experience. However, in the past Shanny has not been afraid to by-pass the guy with experience and put his trust in the least heralded or least well known guy. I think if you can drop someone not too important you pick up any one of these guys and enter the lottery. I picked up Bell, but I almost wonder if it won't be the FA rookie Hall, since he is listed at RB.

just picked him up (before the word spreads)

thanks footballguys forum :lmao:

hopefully these are articles written in fact and not speculation (but i don't really care, my RB6 wasn't going to touch my starting lineup anyway)

Mike Bell is the one who will share the load with Young. Knowing Shannahan he uses bogus injury status reports to keep his players out. I don't think Bell can't play because of a concussion. What, did his IQ lower 20 points from it? I think Bell is activated and if anything he will start over Young. Young is still too young to take all the carries.

For those of us who are not members of that website, can you summarize what's going on in that thread?
They are all crapping their pants and calling Henry every name in the book.Broncs33 says:

9 kids

Alot of money

no rubbers

and some weed

Sounds like a killer song...
yo i knew henry was da man. he just took it to anutha level...you dont even knowyo i can work up a phat beat for dis. thats gonna be hott right der.... fo sho

Kind of odd that the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News do not have this yet. I wonder if this is really true.
CBS4 in Denver just finished their local sports segment and didn't mention it. From the Newsday story it sounds as if Henry is trying to prevent the league from having access to the sample.
The NFL is seeking to have the litigation transferred to Brooklyn federal court because the issue involves interpretation of the league's collective bargaining agreement, which generally is covered by federal labor laws. Henry claims that the NFL violated league substance abuse policy by not allowing his experts to be present for testing of his urine specimen, court papers stated. The 28 year-old Henry was signed by the Broncos in March after stints with the Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills. He leads the league in rushing this season with 433 yards.NFL attorney Sean O'Donnell of Manhattan declined to comment late Thursday.
If the NFL is trying to have the case transferred to NY I wonder if this will hit tomorrow?

Seems for certain he's failed. The question is was it before he rotated out of the abuse program and is he subject to a year long suspension? Newsday article seems to suggest that he failed it before the previously reported 3rd game requirement. Test was possibly taken in week 1 or 2 judging from the Sept. 20th injunction filed by Henry's lawyers.

He has an appeal pending, so perhaps the NFL has not yet issued its ruling until the appeal is done?

First the 9 kids with 9 different women, now this?!?!?!?

This proves how stupid people that uses Marijuana.

Also proves how stupid people with millions of dollars are that dont know what to do with them money. *VICK*

Don't take this personally, but if you are going to call someone out and call them "stupid," then you should make sure that your own spelling and grammar are correct. I know this is just a message board, and most of the time I am typing fast and don't worry about such things, but you don't look too credible or too intelligent yourself when you call someone stupid and then use the wrong verb form (uses for use; omission of "are") or the wrong pronoun (them for their).Actually, I agree with your sentiment and did get a bit worried when I heard about Henry having so many children with so many wives--not for moral reasons-but because it does imply a lack of judgement and maturity. I still drafted him anyway, however, which maybe shows my judgement could use some improvement too!

It was pointed out a week or so ago, S. Young supposedly has never finished a season healthy. He is THE poster child for injury prone. I never checked if it was indeed all his college years, but they mentioned that he even got hurt in High School.

It's quotes from another forum, but thanks for killing the messenger. There's too damn many of those guys around anyway.

are you serious? players stay out weeks for concussions....see Trent Green why would Bell start when Young is #2?

Honestly, none of us here knows who the RB will be going forward. Young seems to have the backup job, Bell has the experience, Shanahan won't tell us. Anybody trying to get you to believe anything else is talking out of their ###.

Well how about a report from actually a reliable source. Maybe you like false reports but I like get facts.I guess you believe everything that you read and hear. :excited:
When it comes to the initial link of My Fox Colorado then I do believe it based on that site. Then to follow this thread I'm more inclined to believe it now that Adam has reported it. I have the common sense to know what to believe so you just may want to learn from that, son.

Ignoring the incredible irony involved, the rumblings that the Broncos were interested in Ricky Williams start to make a lot more sense now. If those rumors are true it's clear the Broncos knew about this and are trying to prepare in advance in case Henry is gone for a year.

 I'm gonna try & put in a sneaky free agent bid to get Young (we use blind bidding, not a waiver wire), but nothing Shanny does surprises me anymore.

Is it now coming to this? Us as fantasy players having to do research on whether or not a player has had a first time offense to the substance abuse policy, before we draft them?

I missed out on Selvin Young but I just scooped up Bell, Sapp, and Hall. As of right now I have no kicker. Once the picture clears up I'll drop low man on the totem poll (probably Hall) so I have a kicker this weekend. Come on, lottery ticket! Come on, Bell!

Do you think the Broncos would pick up a notorious weed smoker tor eplace a guy who (if it's true) gets suspended for smoking weed?

Mike Bell couldn't sieze the job from Tatum Bell. He still sucks at blitz pick up......and, and...don't forget he had a fumbling issue for a lil bit last year. There's a reason he got moved to fullbackSapp has a better chance than Mike, imo.

Hey prof, I didn't write it, just copied and pasted from another forum (although in retrospect I should have enclosed from 'First the 9...' in quotes). Someone posted a link to a Broncos forum where I found the 'do with them money' post. I thought it was hilarious so I copy and pasted with the 'potkettle' emoticon added for emphasis.

I heard Adam Schefter with my own ears talking to Dave Logan on 850KOA radio about it. Trust me. Now if you want to trust Adam Schefter is the question... He is usually much more trustworthy on his news than ESPN...

I have no idea how this will turn out - I'll be on the horn with Cecil soon, as we record on Thursday nights. The time to make plans might have already passed.

Sapp, Young, Hall and Bell should be owned in all leagues. Hall might be the most talented of the four. Young appears to be first in line. Sapp was running very well in training camp, and Bell posted some solid game last year, and if anything looked a little better than last year in camp despite falling in the pecking order.

I would rank them at this moment:

Young

Sapp

Hall

Bell

Young could not stay healthy for long at UT. Even at the Shrine Game, after looking good early in practices, he got hurt and couldn't play in the game. I would be shocked if he lasts for an extended period of time under a full load. Hence, everyone should be owned.

ETA: Schefter is at the top of the trusted voices list. That's all I need to eliminate any doubt that this is true.

And there seems to be a major reason why it is reasonable to expect him to emerge into this picture again not to mention how Shanny can be with his RBs.

I'd be shocked if Williams is reinstated but if he is and the Broncos' season is crumbling apart - very possible if they have to play again without Walker this week - it wouldn't surprise me.

I have to agree with this: if they lose Henry because of drugs I doubt that they would sign Ricky, toke me up, Williams.

Not true..... What about when Droughns stepped in a few years back.

did Shefter confirm all of this?

IF and since I haven't seen this anwhere like Sportsline or RedZone yet...what are the odds Corey Dillon could be signed...he turned down the Bucs, maybe Denver is more to his liking.

Is it now coming to this? Us as fantasy players having to do research on whether or not a player has had a first time offense to the substance abuse policy, before we draft them?
It has always been a consideration for me. Its one of the reasons Henry was at #11 and not higher. Just as bad as chronic knee arthritis.

He had one fumble last year and it wasn't turned over to the other team. This will now be a full blown RBBC and Bell, the one with the most experience, will emerge.

Pops give it up.... I am not saying that it is not valid.. I just wanted a different source than Fox News in Denver. We are starting to see others come out. Thanks for playing but I think it is your bed time.

Just based on recent memory, it seems to me that Shanny has a track record of turning to his FB1 in these times (Mike Anderson and Reuben Droughns). That would be Cecil Sapp. I'm on record as backing Sapp as the new Denver starting tailback.

HENRY SUING TO BLOCK SUSPENSION

In a novel legal strategy that, for now, isn't completely clear, Broncos running back Travis Henry has been fighting in court since September 20 to keep the NFL from using against him a urine sample that presumably tested positive for marijuana.

Per Newsday, Henry sought a restraining order last month in Suffolk County, New York to prevent the NFL from using the specimen against him.

The skirmish also has spawned a federal court action -- possibly filed by the NFL to compel Henry to rely upon the arbitration procedures set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.

Absent further details, the effort seems to be a proactive Hail Mary pass from Henry aimed at preventing the league from taking the inevitable step of suspending him. And with nine mouths to feed and no other obvious marketable skills, we can't say we blame him for trying.
