Can one single lineman really have chemistry with a running back? I like Mason fine but this is silly.

When that lineman is of the finest pedigree, yes... I do believe so.

In fact, didnt he use Greg as his lead when he scored just this week?

You're reaching terribly. Just stick to getting a good call on Mason right. It's good enough.

It wasnt Robinson he ran behind anyways.. Just checked.

But as for whether or not a RB and lineman can have chemistry, I absolutely do believe that

Cunningham plays special team, it is not usual for a team to have a running back as returner and in the punt/kick team while being a bellcow. I doubt he becomes more than the 3rd down back unless they switch him out of the big role he has in ST.

He had an awesome return + the fake punt catch that won the game. Doubt they want to take him out of that role.

The schedule is daunting in and of itself, and then the question is how will StL use Tre when trailing.

However weeks 13-16 go: Oak, @Was, ARI, NYG.

As for the weeks before week 13, well as Seattle proved one way to avoid falling behind early is use Mason early and often, build up a lead and then run him some more. Maybe StL gets better with him in there also.

That seems to be because some have been a religious mission to destroy Stacy and boost Mason in an internet thread. Not sure why. Doesnt make much sense unless you're his dad.

But anyway....yes, Cunningham matters. Memories are often very short though; ie not beyond two weeks.

Benny had a nice August, but September he didnt come close to being as impressive as Stacy...who showed some pretty nifty stuff during that time; in the passing game too.

The key point:

If you want to believe Mason is Mr First Down...and he has a great shot to get the plurality of 1st down snaps from here on out, then the interesting thing is that in that scenario Stacy is just as much a candidate for 3rd down duties as Cunningham is.

Unfortunately, they're all holds right now.

Very good point, Cunningham and Watts have rather significant ST roles (Cunningham plays ~50% of ST snaps a game). This for sure will limit his offensive snaps (plays ~50% of offensive snaps a game as well).

Bad analogy. 2008 LenDale/CJ was a true RBBC and not a mid-season changing of the guard. For the point you're making, Stacy 2013 is the better analogy.

Aside from the LenDale/CJ experiment, Fisher hasn't been a RBBC guy historically. He's better known for picking a guy and running him almost exclusively until the wheels fall off. Eddie George, LenDale, CJ, Stacy. Stacy is the only one I remember emerging mid-season, but it happened just last year and could happen again.

How comfortable do we feel about Mason as a RB3 against the Chiefs Week 8? My main concerns are the Chiefs defense is better than many think and this will be Mason's first away game and on grass as the lead back.

If we use yesterday as an indicator of the future, he is an RB2, not an RB3... With RB1 upside.

But are we there yet? We dont know for certain, but can assume that yes, he will get the lions share of carries. In the most important part of yesterday's game, he was still used as the lead dog against the league's most feared defense.

Using him as your RB1, is a definite risk... It's been one week as the lead dog, and he passed w flying colours. But to be 100% certain, we would want a bigger sample. I have NO issue using him as an RB2 this week.. In fact, I will be.

Put it this way.... After beating up SF and SEA... if he does the same this week v KC, you can safely say you own an RB1 for the rest of the season, and likely longer if you roll w dynasty

its gonna be pretty hard for this guy to be a rb1. theres just a lot of stud rbs that he cant surpass.

It's worth noting in regards to Stacy's 3.9ypc that his coach is the same Jeff Fisher that stuck with Eddie George for 8 years despite him eclipsing 3.9ypc only twice in that span (and both times, barely) just because he could shoulder the load.

Fisher seems to care less about the ypc stat than anyone else in the league.

Hard to believe there was such a time but Fisher leaned on George right out the gate as a rookie. Fisher would run George 20-30+ times a game.

If they load up on the left to stop him there, wouldn't that make more room on the right for him to run? Seems like it would offset to me...

Yeah it's a different league now. And despite George's lower YPC, there was nobody else on the roster as productive and durable.

I dont think Stacy is 100% outta the picture.. But if Mason doesnt struggle and keep this pace, it's his job... Ive always been in that boat since he was drafted

As tempting as it may be to start Mason this week, I can see an uptick in touches coming for Stacy. Regardless if you believe the coach speak or not, I would be shocked if he comes out and says Stacy could get 25 carries this week and doesn't give him a healthy amount. If Mason still outperforms this week, then I'd think he'll be high RB2, low RB1 the rest of the season.

Touché. Let me rephrase, I see Stacy getting a healthy amount of touches this week. But I still think Mason will show he's a much better player and I'm excited for the future with this kid.
