Tre Mason (2 Viewers)

Was it a sly smirk? A knowing smirk? Was his smirk smirking? Is it possible it was an "I just let off an SBD fart on the air" smirk? Can you rewatch the smirk frame by frame and give an analysis, please?
I saw it too. It was totally a

I have Fischer's Smirk in a keeper league, wondering if I should trade it for BB's Scowl...

edit: whoops. this probably belongs in the AC forum.
COACH Jeff Fischer's Smirk, STL (waiver wire: 15-30%)

Lost in the Robinson-Mason chemistry debate is the fact that the Rams actually have one of the best lines in the whole league. From left to right Long - Robinson - Wells - Saffold - Barksdale (with Davin Joseph in reserve) is a scary unit especially in run blocking.
surprised nobody's mentioned this
Good point. This also says a few things about the other RBs on the roster.
which is likely why they activated Mason two weeks ago and then gave him the lionshare last week. Both guys running sub 4.0 ypc isn't good enough.

I used up my #1 waiver position to grab him. I've got an open flex this week because of byes and will likely trot him out there because my other options aren't stellar. Are you guys rolling him out this week even though the KC matchup isn't really favorable and with the uncertainty about utilization? The FBG rankings have him pretty low, so I'm guessing they aren't convinced.

if they are so good at sunblocking how come Stacy was so horrible? It's not like Stacy is a bad running back in fact last year he was terrific

Stacy was terrific? Really?

3.9 is terrific? If so, then TRich is historically good - very good

I mean they're big guys and all but....

Nope, he's a depth play right now. A deep team is holding him right now, and deploying once we see more clarity/game play under Fisher. Outside of that, we have one good week and sound bites to go/guess on, because honestly none of us really know how Fisher will distribute touches this Sunday until we see it. You're playing on a whim right now if you start Mason since we don't have enough clarity to go off of yet, and that's not a place where I'd want my teams to be this week/ever.

If we get a repeat of last week's touches for Mason, I'd say it's time to bump him into your weekly flex position unquestioned if you have two other RB's in starting/head of RBBC positions in their respective offenses. He's a solid top 30 RB if we see a lead in touches again in Week 8 based on two weeks of volume/production consecutively.

If we get a setback and he's not leading touches this week, then he truly doesn't own the Rams backfield and we're back at square one.

it was a smirk like when you have a silent fart and you look around for people to notice. When your friend looks at you then you smirk. That kind of smirk

"Starting with confidence"... always the kiss of death. Fortunately, I'm deep enough to wait out this and Bryce Brown's situation a little longer. That said my fantasy intuition tells me Jeff Fisher is full of #### and he plans to ride Mason again just like last week.

Fisher is being interviewed on NFL Insiders right now. I'll copy what he says verbatim..

"As far as Tre's concerned, um, ya know, running backs have to learn how to play without the football as well as playing with the football and it often times takes running backs a few weeks or time to do that. By "that" I mean the pass protection and stuff and getting out in the routes where we can trust him. He's worked very hard over the last few weeks so were going to start increasing his carries whenever possible."

He smirked a bit after finishing that last sentence.

Benny Cunningham was added to the Rams' injury report on Thursday, getting in a limited session with a knee issue.

It suggests Cunningham tweaked something in Thursday's practice, though it's unclear if that's the case. The Rams are one of the most lightly-covered teams in the league, so we might not gain clarity until Friday's injury report. A "DNP" on Friday would spell doom for Cunningham's Week 8 chances, while another "limited" to go along with a "questionable" tag would be inconclusive. Regardless of his health, Cunningham can't be trusted as more than an RB3.

Not to crap on your parade but... KC has the 18th ranked run DEF, allowing 118ypg

hardly scary

Mason already gouged the 5th and 6th ranked run D's

I was taking a wait and see approach but if Benny's out I'll take a closer look.
Yep, I doubted the clarity of the situation above based on 1 week and coach speak/not enough sample size. If Benny's out, that reduces a good chunk of doubt as to who gets the carries/snaps if it's Tre vs. Zac.

I'm in a PPR League TD=6pts, Every 10yds Rushing/Receiving=1pt

My current RB's are G.Bernard/ A.Ellington/ J.Bell/ J.Hill/ S.Jackson

Would you guys drop S.Jackson for T.Mason?

Thanks for the input and Good Luck to everyone!!

In a heartbeat? Sjax is old behind a terrible line.
It's really a question of who do you want as your RB3-4..

A guy who will consistently put up RB2-3 numbers for you, or a boom / bust pick that could put up RB1-2 stats the rest of the way but also give you RB5-6 stats if he get's in the dog house.

Tre has the talent and opportunity now moving forward, to be a RB1.. I love his talent, I'm a big fan.

That being said, if he continues to show that he has a problem holding onto the ball as was one of his problems in college, and shows poorly in pass protection nearly getting his QB killed, he's going to see his reps quickly dwindle.

Tre Mason - RB - Rams

Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer said all of his running backs will "have roles for us," and he'll continue to treat it as a week-to-week situation.

"I think thats kind of good for us," Schottenheimer said. "For a defense not to know who theyve got to prepare for. To know that at any moment it might be a different guy out there." Schottenheimer isn't fooling anyone. Anybody with working eyeballs can see Tre Mason is the Rams' most talented runner. If the Rams want to put the ball in Zac Stacy or Benny Cunningham's hands, they're playing to the defense's advantage. We're not -- and more importantly, defensive coordinators aren't -- buying Schottenheimer's mind trick. Mason's the guy.

Mason took over as the starter for the Rams last week, and ran for 85 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. In two games against the 49ers and Seahawks, he has 137 total yards on 24 touches. That’s quite impressive from a rookie who didn’t get a touch in the first four games of the season. Benny Cunningham will still replace him on passing downs, but he can do plenty of damage against the Chiefs if he gets 15-to-18 touches. He’s a low-end RB2

Cunningham seemed to start today; was hard to see the first snap. Second snap Cunningham got the carry. Second carry went to Austin.

But what matters more is where it ends, not where it starts. Let's see who gets these GL carries.

Arrow thru the heart of Stacy owners.

Yowzaaaaaaaa
Smart Stacy owners are Mason owners. Many have Benny too. We dont care who gets the rock, provided we know who it's going to be...and we dont right now.

Today I went with Benny over Mason. Looks good right now, but its veeeerrrryyyy early.

FYI, Cunningham took the snap from the 2 in the TD pass.

It looked to me like that drive belonged to Benny. Which was slightly odd given he had a 40 yd KO return to start.

If I had to guess, the next drive will "belong" to somebody else; probably Mason? We'll see shortly.

Austin gets the carry, then Mason for 13 on his first tote. Playaction to Mason on third snap and a pick. Nice little scamper on that first carry.

Mason given the 3rd drive after the 2nd drive that never got started.

Mason got the carries:

+2,

-1

3rd down and long Cuningham in and a sack. He was on an assigned pass, no blocking responsibility.

Let's see who get the next drive....

(PS this stinks)

So yeah, this backfield is not clear based on the gameflow so far today. This is why Mason is a depth bench carry until further notice, gents.
