Trouble getting pregnant? (1 Viewer)

Well after a week delay due to lining thickness (or lack thereof really) we began progesterone in oil shots. Got this auto injector from union medico - seemed to all go pretty smoothly. Set for this coming Thursday!

This thread brings back a lot of memories, but the first one that comes to mind every single time is the one of me jabbing myself in the hand with the needle trying to give my wife her first set of shots. I absolutely HATE needles and was trying to help, but my wife took it from then on :lmao: :bag:
I certainly gained a healthy respect for nurses who have to give shots constantly. You really need to pay attention to what your doing or it’s really easy to poke yourself. A few times after doing the shots for a while and taking the process for granted I did poke myself.

It’s also funny how reading something brings back a rush of memories. I haven’t thought about those progesterone and oil shots once since our daughter was born but reading it here brought me right back to dealing with those shots and little bottles. Lol

For anyone else upcoming - the shots themselves have gone very well. We got the Union Medico auto injector and it has been perfect. it kind of turns any given syringe into an EpiPen-like device.

Jealous. They didn’t have that new fangled technology back in my day (9yrs ago). We had to walk uphill both ways in the snow to get a syringe that was thick enough to pierce the skin of a crocodile and long enough to do it from across the room. You kids have it easy too nowadays!

Preach it brutha!!!!! :goodposting:

Well we've officially failed enough to begin down the surrogacy path. First real step now that we've engaged an agency is our matching profile...it's like dating apps. Crazy.

Time for an update or two:

1. We decided on a final try at IVF
2. We decided we are moving forward with surrogacy regardless - and there's this fun angle of figuring out if we'll get the full benefit our firm offers or not (our policy for employees is up to $20k of surrogacy expenses are reimbursed...the wording implies, to me, that each of us can get that as long as we aren't submitting the same expenses, and surrogacy is WAY more than $20k so we'll see what happens there)

Well we did the embryo transfer last Friday the 16th. And we find out tomorrow if it worked. And, just like last time, despite my urging, my wife took like 3 different at home pregnancy tests yesterday night and they're positive. So now I'm even MORE nervous. Because last time she took multiple tests a day EVERY DAY between the transfer and the official test day, and some were positive some negative. So now I'm pretty sure she thinks it worked and if it didn't, Monday is going to CRUSH her (not to mention now it's in my head).

On the other front, our surrogacy matching profile was approved! And they're posting something somewhere that like helps advertise for them with a picture of us - I'll link it here sometime it's kinda cool to see but it's for like recruiting surrogates, and in exchange for using our picture, it's like $500 off if they get a surrogate who matches with someone through the ad. So that's kinda cool. We had to do a psych exam (we passed!), background checks (we passed duh), and fill out all this info in our profile - way more intense than a dating profile like they analogized. We had to really wrestle for a bit with some of the questions, and some we instantly knew (like "Would you want an amniocentesis?" our response was like we don't really know but if the doctors say they need to do it for some reason, we listen to doctors...versus "Do you need your surrogate to be comfortable with fetal reduction if they have multiples?" where we had a super easy no way we'll happily accept multiples as a miracle). Stuff about how involved you want to be during the pregnancy, presence at birth, how involved you want the surrogate to be after birth, etc. Travel history, a bunch of sharing about yourselves, a letter or prospective surrogates, photos, descriptions of family, family traditions and holidays...it was intense!

SOOOOOOOO...pray for #1 to be positive tomorrow...then it's like 10-ish weeks of "please don't miscarry" then it starts to feel like success. And the faster #2 works the better - I really want to do what I'm calling "non-twin twins" where if my wife has one and the surrogate has one and they're in the same grade, genetically fraternal...but like 4 months apart which is hilarious. And would let us hand me down all the short term things, the sleepless period is less total time because they overlap a lot vs two a year+ apart...I don't know it would be cool.

Exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10 weeks! We "graduated" from the fertility specialist to a normal OB/GYN from now on.

Also had the surrogacy forms approved and are in matching queue now. It was a bit of an adventure getting an affidavit filed with court saying she can't/shouldn't be pregnant while pregnant...

I'm not following.
In our state, in order to use a surrogate, you must have an affidavit signed by a medical professional which states you cannot or should not become pregnant. And have it notarized. Our agency revealed this after our final attempt at IVF worked. Since it was still the final attempt, we are still in need of a surrogate for the planned second child.

Checking in with some early celebratory news. After a no go cycle, and then a cycle where transfer went but didn't work, our surrogate is pregnant with the "heartbeat" at 6 weeks! They think they'll move her from clinic to regular OB in two weeks. Thanks for all the well wishes throughout - 6 more weeks til we feel out of the woods.

If all goes well, our little ones will be ~10 months apart.

I'll also update:

Our 3-month old is growing like crazy and doing really well. He's awesome. But man was the birth a harrowing experience.

I can only kind of share with so many, so this is a good outlet, but my wife lost like 40% of her blood. It was like perfect birth, easy, pushed, baby out, stitched up, and all was well and then in like 10 seconds it changed and there were 15+ doctors and nurses and blood everywhere and stuff. Took a few hours of doing things but finally resolved - with me just in the corner with brand new baby being like "hope she doesn't die!" Holy crap.

Just solidified the decision to continue with surrogate. Here's hoping it works!

Saw another success in the finance thread after many hard years, so thought I'd update that the surrogate has so far been a success. Our baby girl is due at the New Year, so they will in fact be 10.5 months apart.

Just a reiteration of the gratitude for support here when things were dark(est). Amazing community. Thank you.
