Thanks, everyone, for the recommendations and suggestions. Really appreciate it all.
One other question:
Again, I've only had it once and it was at an ex-girlfriend's family's house. It was my first year with her and I was meeting the family for the first time. They weren't big fans of me so it was kind of an awkward meal. And I had only been in Texas probably a year or two. Point is, when I bit into the turkey, I wasn't expecting the seasoning and even afterwards, I couldn't really ask questions about it because no one would've cared to answer me.
But, the injection didn't taste buttery at all. It may have had something in there, but the flavor was more of like a dry rub spice. But lined throughout the turkey. It was amazing. I assume it was seasoning and maybe some type of liquid that got it in there, but it was the tastiest turkey I ever had. Like, the kind you still dream about in your best dreams.
And that's what we're trying to recreate. A turkey that has some spice and juiciness throughout. But not a buttery juiciness. We don't want the "juice" to overpower the turkey and spice.
Damn, I wish I was still on talking terms with this ex. She's pretty much one of two ex's I severed all ties with. But someone must know how to recreate this taste. Even if it takes some experimenting.
