Tush Push - Do the rules apply for this play or not? Doesn't seem like it (1 Viewer)

Another Tush Push, another play where the offensive line lined up in tbe nuetral zone AND the right guard went early.

?? It's time to start officiating this play like every other offensive snap.
If a Chiefs said this to me I couldn’t help but laugh in their face. Their oline has been violating the rules for multiple years. Lining up in the backfield and leaving their stance early. And the officials continue to turn a blind eye.

Sorry, I digress. Carry on.

This play is not going away.

Stop the Eagles from running the play by performing better defensively on the previous plays.

Fox rules analyst Dean Blandino on the tush push: "I am done with the tush push, guys. It's a hard play to officiate."

I don't see what's so hard about throwing a flag for offsides or lining up in the neutral zone. They were obvious in real time...the refs blew those calls.

The refs also missed when Hurts scored, and still didn't get it right with the replay. Doesn't seem that the problem is with the play.

FBG Poster ProstheticRGK To Dean Balndino: “Who cares? Quit yet whining and go back to being a shill for the shield.”
I mean

This image seems like more strong support for enforcing existing rules as both teams have several players offside in addition to 2-3 Eagles false starting. I think it is extremely common on goal-line or very short yardage plays, not just the Eagles running this particular play. The NFL has a problem with fundamental LoS rules we all grew up with. This includes the Jawan Taylor step, which I see lots of players doing (although I've read he's getting flagged for it more often now.) There are examples from other sports where the athletes just kept pushing the limits until they eventually re-wrote the rulebook such that actions that once were penalized are now commonplace.

Stop whining. Stop it or shut the **** up
Okay, by that logic, run it legally or shut the **** up. 🙄 Good contribution.

Even if they called the offensive lineman always in the neutral zone and they flagged the constant false starts, people watching the game still have no idea when the play ends ...and neither do the officials.

It's garbage to watch, and even officiating experts and game commentators have finally quit pretending its being run within the existing rules.

I find it to be an exciting play and I am completely surprised that other teams do not copy it. Oh, and huge chuckles for blaming the play itself for the officials shortcomings at calling obvious penalties. Really?

I suppose the NFL might try again to outlaw the play during the off-season. I suppose the NFL might be successful. Maybe. Maybe next time they ought to bring valid reasoning for doing so.

But hey, I'll step aside once more and let folks have their QB-sneak complaint thread.

With Hurts at QB it seems spreading out 4 wide and making the D spread out and cover would make it easier to sneak as it would be more one on ones instead of a mass of humanity.

Thanks, Homer.

I don't understand why other teams don't try and do the tush push, it's such an effective play. Use it while it's still legal.
The Eagles have far and away, the best OL in the league. 4/5 guys are Pro-Bowlers. It isn't just technique, they are MONSTER human beings to try and keep from falling over and pushing the pile.

Yep, plenty of other ways for this team to score too. I'm also surprised they haven't also worked more on a fake tush push option, they tried once or twice early but seem to have given up on it... or are saving for when they really need it.

It's a fun play for us Eagles fans because it works and it drives everyone else crazy. But it's not like if this was outlawed that we'd be totally powerless to convert short yardage.

Others have, but it takes real commitment to just throw your QB into a meat grinder. Could you imagine Joe Burrow doing the tush push? It would sound like branches crackling in a bonfire.

Lot of noise on the morning football shows today about the false starts. Curious to see if they start flagging these.

I like watching it now but it does seem to be very difficult for officials to know where to spot the ball at times. I was at my daughters yesterday. A few people there had a Hurts prop bet to score a TD, everytime Eagles got close they were chanting "Tush push, tush push!"

The officials definitely missed a few calls on the Tush Push yesterday.

The officials have been bad for the last ________ years?

Bad officiating at some point has got to be accepted as part of this game, you'd think at least

Why is bad officiating and/or bad player intentions (Luvu) being used as a valid argument to ban a play.

Still

Because it was the NFL darling KC Chiefs.

The chirping has gotten very loud... you'll be chirping next week when they're getting false start flags on 1st & G plays.

(Eagles fans will be chirping, not you in particular).

Look, as much as I enjoy seeing the tush push because it is so effective the way the Eagles execute the play, there is no way they should get away with offside penalties not being called.
Frankly, it is ********.
Yes, great for Hurts owners in FF.
But how in the world does that not get called last night?

Its week 2. They will certainly clean it up and I would guess they go a little out of their way to over correct it in the future with calling guys offsides.

I wouldn't be surprised if they get NY involved to monitor some by video and get an assist - and THEY SHOULD do this if the refs continue to fail calling the obvious stuff.

If the play is called legally, there should be no issue.

People are grabbing onto anything they can to get rid of it now which is the comical part for me as an Eagles fan

It’s definitely gonna be banned next year, so all the fans who like real football, enjoy it while you can this year.

And all those opposed to the play because it’s not fair😭 and ugly and cheating, go to Costco and stock up on tissues to last until February.

I love that Philly ran it 6 times with Goodell in house.

As a dynasty Hurts owner I hope this play never gets banned. As a football fan it's a boring play to watch, in the same way that old school PAT's were - it's such an automatic play.

PATs were automatic for THE ENTIRE NFL which is why it was reasonable and logical to change it.

I've been saying for years... why doesn't Baltimore (and, previously, Tennessee), pull the QB for an extra blocker, direct snap to Derrick Henry, and let him do a tush push-style play? I don't think it would be stoppable.

Hubris + Pride

Pride got the Chiefs stopped on 4th and 1 and gave the Eagles a free 3 points. As Marcellus Wallace would say, "**** Pride. Pride only hurts, it never helps."

Pride is what makes you throw from the 1 yard line in the Super Bowl when you could just hand it to Marshawn Lynch.

I don't believe offsides or false start are reviewable, so this won't happen.

If Buffalo would have been able to execute a tush push, they might have beaten the Chiefs in the AFFCG. Instead they gave the ball to Mahomes with a short field.

The referee's proficiency at their job is, and whether they tell us or now, I promise you NY will get involved.

The jump in with "video assist" all the time in matters and make up the rules as they go all the time. I don't see how this would be any different if it gets out of control

Yeah, without the tush push... Hurts goes from fantasy MVP contender to droppable.
