Sometimes OPM is schtick but maybe he wanted a new miniseries with a different groups tale. I would have watched.

Terriers is another.

when you look at the talent that F&G had and how a lot of those folks went on to become famous, it's hard to believe some network exec made the decision to cancel...

it was the network's lowest-rated show.

That's 100% on the network.

Yea never watched an episode but I remember posting in the Terriers thread that it was listed as a comedy in the Directv channel guide. Very poor management.

We're talking Freaks & Geeks here, but the marketing for Terriers was pretty bad too.

Terriers baffles me

The show had good buzz and FX usually gives there shows more slack in catching an audience

maybe they started that policy after Terriers...

if you can find the podcast on grantland with the head of FX, John Landrgraph, he discusses this and says that they really wanted it to succeed, but the numbers just kept dropping every week and they just couldn't find any sign to indicate that there would an upswing. was down to like 250K viewers by the finale. he admitted that there was a marketing issue.

Actually, it's a really good podcast that I recommend. i guess it was with Greenwald.

i am a big fan, but networks do have to make decisions. If I remember right, Paul Feig talked about them having a really tough time slot and I'm sure they faced an uphill battle, but sometimes these things happen.

From the out set it was made to be 4 seasons but showtime decided to cancel after 3.

Lights out. FX.

Rubicon was a good show...better than The Killing, and hell on Wheels.

One problem is that the first for episodes were not that good....When Henry Bromel took over as showrunner in ep5, it really picked up. HB went on to work on Season 1 of Homeland while AMC scrambled and put together dreck like Low Winter Sun

Rome - I thought Rome was superb. The second season felt incredibly rushed unfortunately, due to the impeding cancellation, but that was such an interesting time in history.

It was. Adam Scott leaving for Parks & Rec was probably the final nail in the coffin (after Jane Lynch had already left), but I think the rest of the cast was strong enough that it could have continued along without missing too much of a beat.

Also, Joan of Arcadia. Season 2 ended with foreshadowing a battle between Joan, who saw and spoke with god, and a guy who may have been in league with the devil. Looked really good. Then *poof* it was just gone.

I love this show more than anything, but it got three solid years, and its ratings were truly, truly abysmal.

I think their best chance at the time was going to HBO, the Home Builders Organization.

I loved Dexter the first 5 years and it should have ended about that time, so it had run it's course and certainly wasn't cancelled early by any means. That show ran from 2006 to 2013.

That would be shows that weren't cancelled early enough.

Dexter should have ended after the Trinity season, or thereabouts. The last season sat on my DVR for months, every time I sat down to watch an episode I would easily come up with something else I wanted to do. Painful ending for what started out as such a great show.

It wasn't canceled prematurely either, which I believe was the intent of this thread.

Anyone mention Original Star Trek yet? I mean, it all worked out for fans of the show, to put it mildly, but 45 years and however many billions of dollars later, I think it's pretty clear that it was cancelled a bit too early.
