U.S. Ambassador to Libya Killed in Rocket Attack (2 Viewers)

The IC began to receive intelligence on the attackers and their affiliations immediately following the attacks. In January 2013, CIA conducted a review of the analytic products between September 12, 2012, and October 11, 2012, that addressed the attacks. The review found that CIA accurately assessed on September 12 and 13, 2012, that members of AAS and of various aI-Qa'ida affiliates perpetrated the attacks. As new reporting provided greater information and detail, CIA gained corroborating reporting to support their previous assessments. This line of analysis remained consistent through the timeframe of the line analytic review and continues to be supported today.

And when did Susan Rice go on television blaming a YouTube video for sparking a protest that somehow magically transformed into this super-effective double-location onslaught that took four American lives including an American Ambassadors? That would be September 16.
???????????
From that document: "Third, the committee finds That a mixed group of individuals, including those affiliated with Al Queda, Participated in the attacks on the U.S. facility in Benghazi, although the the committee finds that the Intelligence was and is still conflicting as to the identities, Affiliations, and motivations of the attackers."

So even this investigation finds that this stuff still isn't clear in hindsight, months after the attack, yet we're still supposed to believe that Rice and Co, were either incompetent or misleading in their heavily caveated comments 4 days after the attack?
to say that the attack was a protest gone awry defies common sense and verifiable facts on the night of the attack. If that info was coming from the Intelligence community then we need to find out if they are just blatantly incompetent or lying. If the Intelligence community is lying, then the question is what are they hiding from the American people, their elected representatives and the administration. Why is the administration playing along with the lie or blatant incompetence, instead of helping to get to the bottom of it?
Thank you, let's remember this is in the manner of a self-regulation style internal investigation of the intelligence community on itself. If you look at the DOJ they have (surprise) a court case going and Khattalla has already said why he and the militias attacked, etc., etc.

It's one thing to say that the intelligence was mixed at the time, it's another to keep maintaining that the movie and the spontaneous protest were the result of the attack at this place and time, it's been absolutely refuted and it has been for a very, very, very long time.
We've had 7 investigations now, and NONE have shown that there was an intention to deceive. Do you think that maybe, just maybe, you're the one missing the boat on this one?
Tommy, I have not said there was an intention to deceive. Thanks.

I'm pretty certain that Susan Rice, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton knew full well that the video didn't spark the attack in Benghazi by the time Rice appeared on all the Sunday morning talk shows 5 days after the fact, and claimed exactly that.

then Hillary Clinton told Ty Woods parents quote :‘We are going to have the filmmaker arrested.’ as though it was still the video tape that caused all this. She then went forward with plans to run ads on Pakistani TV to apologize and denounce the offending video. They then arrested the guy in the middle of the night and put him in jail for a year.

so either they just made up a story and lied to our faces about it, or they are horribly incompetent. But if I could figure out within 1 day of the attack by perusing the internet that it wasn't the video, so could they. This is why I've always assumed from day one that they just lied

I think we've found the problem. You're trying to fit everything into your narrative even after it's been shot down not only by all the participants, but 7 independent investigations as well.

i don't need the gov't to investigate itself so it can publish a report that says it didn't do anything wrong.

i have eyes, and a brain.

Eyes, yes. the rest is debateable.

Judge extends review of classified documents in Benghazi attack case to AprilFederal prosecutors said Wednesday that they need more time to review tens of thousands of pages of documents, many of them classified, before turning over information to the defense team for Ahmed Abu Khattala, the suspected ringleader of the September 2012 attacks in against U.S. outposts in Benghazi, Libya.

U.S. District Judge Christopher R. Cooper of the District postponed a hearing until April 14, as both sides requested, to prepare the terrorism conspiracy and murder case.

U.S. special forces snatched Abu Khattala last June in a raid in Libya, and he was indicted for the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

Abu Khattala pleaded not guilty in October to all charges, which include murder, conspiracy, destroying a U.S. facility and others, and which are eligible for the death penalty. The U.S. government called Abu Khattala the commander of the Ubaydah Bin Jarrah militia, which sought to establish Islamic law in Libya.

In November, an investigation by the Republican-led House Intelligence Committee concluded that the CIA and U.S. military responded appropriately to the attacks.

Prosecutors recently turned over to the defense 2,500 pages of documents, composed mostly of FBI materials including witness statements, and Abu Khattala’s lawyers now have received over 90 percent of his FBI case, Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael C. DiLorenzo told the court.

The government last week handed over another 11,000 pages of documents released by another unnamed government agency, much of it “presumptively classified,” Assistant Federal Public Defender Michelle Peterson said.

However, DiLorenzo said the team of three federal prosecutors and others is still receiving information from other federal agencies, including another batch of 10,000 pages, to determine if they should be released to meet Khattalla’s constitutional rights to a fair trial, and, if so, how to do so without undermining national security.

Prosecutors are working to get the defense team “as much as possible so they know about the case, as soon as possible,” DiLorenzo said, but are working through the process of determining what classified information can be released. “It is a large amount of material.”

Someone explain to me why we did not just kill this SOB?

Why does he have a constitutional right to a fair trial? He led a foreign armed militia that attacked a US embassy and killed US diplomatic personnel.

Why are we going through this again, instead of just shooting him and blowing away his compatriots on the spot?

Well-connected rookie judge to preside over Khattala Benghazi trialAhmed Abu Khattala, an alleged leader of the deadly 2012 attacks on Americans in Benghazi, Libya, awaits trial in federal court in Washington, D.C. (AP)

Just three months into his tenure on the federal bench, and before his formal investiture ceremony later this week, newly minted U.S. District Judge Christopher “Casey” Cooper has been handed one of the most high-profile and politically sensitive American terrorism cases in recent years.

Cooper, who was confirmed by the Senate in March, has been randomly assigned by the court’s selection system to preside over the U.S. government’s case against Ahmed Abu Khattala, a suspected ringleader in the deadly attack on U.S. outposts in Benghazi, Libya.

“He can handle it. Casey didn’t come from academia or a corporate boardroom. He came from the trial bar and he will be quite capable,” said William Jeffress, a partner at Cooper’s former law firm who is also his father-in-law.

Cooper, 47, was part of the Obama administration’s transition team and is one of the more connected people in D.C. legal circles. His wife, Amy Jeffress, is a former national security adviser to Attorney General Eric Holder. She previously ran the national security section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office that has charged Khattala, and mentored the lead prosecutor on the case, Michael DiLorenzo.

As an undergraduate at Yale, Cooper’s roommate and close friend was John Rice, brother of President Obama’s National Security Adviser Susan Rice. Susan Rice’s controversial television appearances in the days after the Benghazi attacks helped fuel criticism that the Obama administration was trying to downplay suspicions of terrorist involvement in the assault that killed a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.

(John Rice happened to play basketball at Yale with one of Cooper’s new colleagues on the bench, U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg.)

Despite Cooper’s connections to the Obama administration, Khattala can perhaps take some solace in Cooper’s ties to the defense bar. With his father-in-law, Cooper successfully defended senior Saudi government officials in a lawsuit brought by families of victims in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

In addition, Cooper’s brother-in-law, Jonathan Jeffress, is a longtime federal public defender in Washington.
This is from July, but worth looking at again.

The Judge in the Khattala case was Susan Rice's brother's roommate in college.

Leader of Libyan Jihadist Group Confirmed DeadLibya's Ansar al-Sharia confirms the death of its leader, Mohammed al-Zehawi, whose fate has been a mystery since October.

Libya's Ansar al-Sharia jihadist group on Saturday confirmed the death of its leader, Mohammed al-Zehawi, after Islamist websites reported he had been mortally wounded in fighting in October.

"We mourn the death of the Emir of Ansar al-Sharia Sheikh Mohamed al-Zehawi," the group said in a statement quoted by the AFP news agency, without giving details about the time or circumstances of his death.

Zehawi's fate has been a mystery since the October clashes between pro-government forces and Islamist militias in the eastern city of Benghazi, in which dozens died.

Ansar al-Sharia is classified by the United States and the United Nations as a terrorist organization. It has branches in Benghazi, in the eastern city of Derna, and in Sirte, in central Libya.

Zehawi "was killed in Benina clashes near the Benghazi airport, southeast of the city," the Islamist militias February 17 Martyrs and Rafallah al-Sahati Brigades said on Facebook on Saturday.

A source at the shura council of Benghazi rebels also confirmed his death to AFP saying "Zehawi was killed in the Benina clashes on October 11".

"He was buried in Sirte (west of the city) after efforts to save his live failed because he had received a direct hit in the chest and was suffering from diabetes," the source added.

An army officer, who did not wish to be named, said the military learned of Zehawi's death from an "Ansar al-Sharia militant who was made prisoner and who confirmed the news."

Zehawi, who was jailed under the regime of Muammar Qaddafi, took part in the 2011 uprising that toppled and killed the strongman. He had also fought in Al-Qaeda ranks in Afghanistan.

Ansar al-Sharia is affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) and several months ago declared authority over the coastal city of Darna.

Washington believes the group is responsible for the 2012 attack on the consulate in Benghazi that killed the ambassador and three other Americans.

In November, the United Nations blacklisted Ansar al-Sharia Benghazi and its sister group, Ansar al-Sharia Derna, over links to Al-Qaeda and for running camps for the Islamist State group.

One of the leaders of the group, Ahmed Abu Khattala, has been charged in the United States with crimes related to the 2012 Benghazi attack.

Khattala, who was captured in June by special American forces, has previously denied any connection to the Benghazi attack and has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges.

The decision to place Maxwell on administrative leave was made by Clinton’s chief of staff Cheryl Mills, according to three State Department officials with direct knowledge of the events. On the day after the unclassified version of the ARB’s report was released in December, Mills called Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Beth Jones and directed her to have Maxwell leave his job immediately.

“Cheryl Mills directed me to remove you immediately from the [deputy assistant secretary] position,” Jones told Maxwell, according to Maxwell.

The decision to remove Maxwell and not Jones seems to conflict with the finding of the ARB that responsibility for the security failures leading up to the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi should fall on more senior officials.
From the Daily Beast’s report

Also, he believes that Clinton’s staff, not the ARB, was in charge of the review of the attack that took place during her watch.

“The flaws in the process were perpetrated by the political leadership at State with the complicity of the senior career leadership,” he said. “They should be called to account.”
oof, so much for an independent review
Hillary Clinton wasn’t even interviewed by the Accountability Review Board.

One person who reviewed the classified portion of the ARB report told The Daily Beast that it called out Maxwell for the specific infraction of not reading his daily classified briefings, something that person said Maxwell admitted to the ARB panel during his interview.

“The crime that he is being punished for is not reading his intel. That explains why Jones and Dibble were not disciplined,” this person said.

Maxwell had no response to this allegation other than to say he has not been officially counseled on what he did wrong and has not been allowed to read the classified report. Also, he believes that Clinton’s staff, not the ARB, was in charge of the review of the attack that took place during her watch.

Mills, Clinton’s former chief of staff at the State Department, also told the House Select Committee on Benghazi that she reviewed and made suggestions for changes to the government's official, final report on what happened in Benghazi, according to a separate, GOP source familiar with what she said.

The source said it “call into question the ‘independence’” of the report's conclusions.

...One of the biggest surprises to the right was that she said she made suggestions to change State's accountability review board report. The report was supposed to be independent from state officials that may be involved, and the GOP argues top officials should not have had input, long questioning how independent the findings were. ...

- So, just a follow-up here: Cheryl Mills reviewed and edited the ARB report, she fired four mid-level personnel for failures during the Libyan crisis, then she personally in 2014 went through Hillary's emails and culled them.

...In an evening filing in federal court in Washington, the Justice Department rebutted defense claims last month that the arrest of Libyan terrorism suspect Ahmed Abu Khattala in a U.S. military raid south of Benghazi and his interrogation for 13 days aboard a U.S. Navy ship without a lawyer present violated his due process rights.

Abu Khattala has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder, conspiracy and destroying a U.S. facility in the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

"The apprehension of the defendant in Libya violated no law, treaty, or constitutional right," wrote Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael DiLorenzo and other prosecutors with the national security section of the U.S. attorney's office for the District of Columbia.

At issue are the blended military and civilian policies adopted by U.S. officials to extract intelligence from terrorism suspects while preserving the ability to try them in civilian courts.

Abu Khattala's defense team said he was captured by U.S. Special Forces and held in military custody as he was taken to the United States aboard the amphibious ship USS New York. On board, he was interrogated for five days by a special interrogation group composed of U.S. military and intelligence personnel and law enforcement officials. Information obtained by such efforts may further intelligence-gathering but cannot be admitted as evidence.

Then, a second group, comprising FBI agents, told Abu Khattala that he was under arrest and read him his Miranda rights. He requested a lawyer, but none was available on board for him. FBI agents interrogated Abu Khattala for seven more days, his lawyers said.

The Benghazi outrage we actually should be talking about Newly revealed documents show how the CIA stood by as arms shipments from Libya enabled the rise of ISIS...Two months after the report laying out AQI support for the rebels — another of the documents obtained by Judicial Watch shows — the DIA provided a detailed description of how weapons got shipped from Benghazi to Syria, presumably for rebel groups. “During the immediate aftermath of, and following the uncertainty caused by, the downfall of the [Qaddafi] regime in October 2011 and up until early September of 2012,” the report explained, “weapons from the former Libya military stockpiles located in Benghazi, Libya were shipped from the port of Benghazi, Libya, to the ports of Banias and the Port of Borj Islam, Syria.”

The report obtained by Judicial Watch says that the weapons shipments ended in “early September of 2012.” But note what event this second report conspicuously does not mention: The Sept. 11 attack on the State Department and CIA facilities in Benghazi at the same time that the flow of weapons stopped.

lol - the democrats on the Select Committee want to release Mills' testimony before Clinton testifies to make sure everyone is on the same page.

I hate politics.

Both parties should be abolished.

I'll never forget when my ultra right-wing co-worker was absolutely CONVINCED Obama was going to be impeached over this. :lmao: Good times.

Without going through complete agony can anyone tell me who called off the calvary to rescue those guys? From what I remember our forces were within 1 1/2 hours away & the attack lasted 4 hours.

Just asking.

Ex-Benghazi investigator says U.S. panel targeted Clinton: mediaReuters 31 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A former investigator for the House of Representatives Select Committee on Benghazi is accusing the Republican-led panel of targeting Democrat Hillary Clinton to scupper her presidential bid, the New York Times and CNN reported on Saturday.

They said Major Bradley Podliska, an intelligence officer in the Air Force Reserve on active duty in Germany, alleged that he was fired for resisting pressure to focus his investigation into the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi on Clinton's role. They said he planned to file a complaint in federal court next month.

Ok I guess I will address this, or see what there is. Here's the NYT report:

In his complaint, Major Podliska, 41, acknowledges that he was told that he was being fired for three infractions, the most serious of which was mishandling classified information, although he disputes the charge.
I'd call that pretty ironic, all things considered.

In September 2014, he began working for the Benghazi committee, on which his role was to investigate the way that various federal agencies in Washington responded to the attack, in which four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, were killed.

But two things changed in March, Major Podliska said. First, after revelations that Mrs. Clinton relied exclusively on a private email server for her State Department correspondence, the committee became preoccupied with the State Department’s role in the controversy surrounding the Benghazi attack and less interested in a comprehensive investigation.

Second, Major Podliska informed his superiors around the same time that he would need to perform 39 days of active duty for the Air Force in Germany in a handful of intervals, beginning with the middle of that month. (The length of the leave later rose slightly.)

According to Major Podliska’s complaint, another senior staff member, Dana Chipman, who had served as the Army’s judge advocate general, questioned whether he “really needs to go to Germany.”

Major Podliska said in an interview that he believed other staffers were skeptical of his obligations as a reservist and annoyed that he would take time off just as the committee had received its biggest break since being formed in May 2014 — the Clinton email revelations.

...Major Podliska said that when he returned from active duty in late March, much of the committee staff, which had been investigating leads across numerous agencies, had been redeployed to focus primarily on Mrs. Clinton and the State Department.

Despite the change in focus, Major Podliska continued to work on his examination of the response in Washington to the attack, only to meet escalating resistance from his superiors, according to his complaint. In his view, they felt he was not focusing enough on Mrs. Clinton’s alleged mistakes, a criticism he considered odd given that his findings were far from favorable to her.

“My thing was actually related to Hillary — I just wasn’t all in on Hillary,” he said in the interview. “I was finding other officials at other agencies that bore responsibility for the post-attack piece.

...
Now first of all, you have to say the timing is really pretty odd. Clearly the meme building is that the committee is just politicizing the issue. That's the argument and no matter what happens, no matter what is said, no matter what evidence is revealed, it will be hands over ears and eyes and nothing will be heard or seen.

Now apparently the source of his own complaint is this guy wanted to go to Germany and do what he wanted to do there instead of follow orders and continue the investigation. And he mishandled classified information - which apparently is a fireable offense. Go figure.

I will also add that Podilska reminds everyone that there was indeed fault in what the State Department did. People were suspended and fired, reports did find that teh State Department had acted improperly.

Finally, the refocus on Hillary is not surprising. Let's remember this whole thing was done, finished, over. It was Hillary who re-ginned this thing by purposefully hiding and destroying evidence. The only issue left is Hillary, by September 2014 all findings had been made, even though Hillary herself had not been interviewed by the ARB and even though as it turns out she and Cheryl Mills were given a draft of the ARB report to review and edit in advance, which was improper since it was supposed to be independent and after all she relied on it and leaned on it in her own testimony.

Your were dying to make such a silly post. poor saints. the guy killed this witchhunt. d.e.a.d.
Are we having this conversation?

Or not?

I'm interested in history and foreign policy, so glad to discuss, and I enjoy discussing these things with everyone involved, but I also don't mind blowing this off, we have football to attend to.

Ok a couple other stories on another whistleblower in this case:

Raymond Maxwell, who was reported on back in 2013 by The Daily Beast.

And again more recently a couple weeks ago by Slate.

“She told me, ‘Ray, we are to go through these stacks and pull out anything that might put anybody in the [Near Eastern Affairs] front office or the seventh floor in a bad light,’” says Maxwell. He says “seventh floor” was State Department shorthand for then-Secretary of State Clinton and her principal advisers.
“I asked her, ‘But isn’t that unethical?’ She responded, ‘Ray, those are our orders.’ ”
A few minutes after he arrived, Maxwell says, in walked two high-ranking State Department officials.
In an interview Monday morning on Fox News, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, named the two Hillary Clinton confidants who allegedly were present: One was Cheryl Mills, Clinton’s chief of staff and a former White House counsel who defended President Bill Clinton during his impeachment trial. The other, Chaffetz said, was Deputy Chief of Staff Jake Sullivan, who previously worked on Hillary Clinton’s and then Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns.
“When Cheryl saw me, she snapped, ‘Who are you?’” Maxwell says. “Jake explained, ‘That’s Ray Maxwell, an NEA deputy assistant secretary.’ She conceded, ‘Well, OK.’”
I'm just going to remind anyone who cares that this was the final word:

“The committee found the attacks were preventable, based on extensive intelligence reporting on the terrorist activity in Libya — to include prior threats and attacks against Western targets — and given the known security shortfalls at the U.S. Mission,” the Senate committee said in a statement in releasing the 58-page declassified report.
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/16/world/middleeast/senate-report-finds-benghazi-attack-was-preventable.html

Since we last looked at this as noted above it was revealed that Cheryl Mills, essentially Hillary's right hand gal, received a copy of the supposedly "independent" ARB report for review and presumably editing. Hillary relied on this report in her appearance before Congress. That's per Mills and you can see Hillary's testimony for herself.

Let's also recall this:

Together with the conclusions of previous investigations, the new Senate findings are likely to increase pressure on Patrick F. Kennedy, the under secretary of state for management, whose office oversees diplomatic security. Republicans on the committee noted that Mr. Kennedy held a similar job in the prelude to the bombings of two American Embassies in East Africa in 1998 and should be held accountable for the Benghazi tragedy.
- 7/15/14

Patrick Kennedy is the same man who has been responsible for collecting public documents from Hillary and their production to the public and Congress.

Some people have a lot of posts invested in this.
Well, to be fair, my last post was back in 2013 and I was never into the scandal part. I was more concerned with finding those responsible but I gave up after it was clear that all anyone cared about was Khatallah and no one else. We'll never get the real story, imo.
"We'll never get the real story, IMO."

LOL. 7 investigations aren't enough, apparently.

inverstigating Benghazi has exposed some major scandals

- Hillary shadow intelligence operation with Sid Blumentahl, Drumheller etc

- Hillarys email handling which assuredly exposed some of the nations most sensitive secrets to our enemies

- the rat line of weapons transfers to Syria from Libya via Turkey which ended up in the hands of ISIS.

- the stubborn determination by the government to subvert the freedom of information act

- America under attack...President catching some zzzzzs

- Govt knowingly pushes false YouTube narrative to world, further damaging US credibility

We still don't know why they reduced security in an area that a three year old could easily conclude required more security.

This is all stuff that would give old school liberals a stroke...abuses of power that Richard Nixon could only dream of...now it's defended...
