U2 - Community rankings - FIN - #4 Sunday Bloody Sunday, #3 - One, #2 - Bad, #1 - Where the Streets Have No Name -Spotify links, thanks to Krista4 (1 Viewer)

I have no issue with this list, personal preference and all. It’s not like they put Landlady at Number 1 either. Rest of the list is entirely reasonable

:lmao:   I had to go back and listen to Landlady after you mentioned it so many times.  It hadn't made my first cut, so I didn't remember it.  On relisten I didn't think it was necessarily the worst, but it was plenty bad.

Where the Streets Have No Name, One AND Bad are not in one rankers 25. This is the only list so far without Bad and Where the Streets Have No Name.
Guilty. I'm just plain tired of those songs, and didn't like them a ton when they were new either. Slings, arrows, and tomatoes are welcome.

Also, I'm trying to dechalkify myself a bit after the whole Beatles thing. Though I think there's still a lot of chalk in my U2 list.

@John Maddens Lunchbox I'm in for your Royksopp countdown.

I’m so curious on all of these!  Can't wait for this
We have 9 songs with a number one ranking to date. The 3 songs I already mentioned dominate with 21/32 number one rankings. 3 of the other 6 have multiple number one rankings and feature high on a lot of lists.

That leaves 3 outliers. One of them is off several lists but also top 5 in many. Another is top 10 often so it fits.

The last one is only on 6 lists. The next highest rank has it barely scraping into a top 50. The next highest after that is well into the 100s. It will be well into the 200s in mine.

Its just so awful. Hes trying so hard to write a love song to his wife and it fails miserably. Its cringeworthy. That said lock me in a room and get me to choose between Landlady and Get on Your Boots and I choose Landlady.

You didnt have to out yourself lol. Part of the fun of this. There will be no chalk here.

As for Royksopp, the last 10 years is hard to keep track of. Every doodle, fart and basic thought they ever had has been released in some format. Glad theres someone else who appreciates them.

Just wanted to rip the bandaid off quickly. There are lots of songs in every countdown (some <timschochet> countdowns more than others) where I'm in the minority in terms of not appreciating the song as much as the rest of the folks, and I don't want to be a neg on their comments and enjoyment of the tune, so I don't write. I appreciate you giving me an opening to get that stuff off my chest without it distracting from the appreciation of the songs in the moment.

You put in a list!  :pickle:

I had noticed the other day that Gr00vus had posted very favorably about a couple of my top five that, while far from being deep cuts, weren't anyone's #1 in the first countdown, so I was hoping he'd put in a list.

Were you actually chalky on Beatles?  I think of your favorites as a little quirky, unless I'm misremembering but thought you had Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Hello Goodbye, and others.

I thought that too, I did have Maxwell's Silver Hammer and a few more outliers. So I was surprised to see in @Getzlaf15chalk metrics, I landed in the upper middle tier at draft's end. Now that I look back though, I did list at least 15 or so songs that landed in the top 25 overall, maybe more.

Dying to see the outlier.

And I listened to "Get on Your Boots" recently for the same reason - you'd mentioned throughout the thread how awful it was.    Yeah, that one was even worse.

I think you are making too much of this.  Most of the lists had 15 or so top 25 songs. So If you had like 1-2 more songs than average in Top 25, it slightly bumped you up, when really, there were only a handful of super chalky lists. For me, the only super chalky lists were the Top 9 scores.

I'm not serious about it. Just something to pass the time until we get more U2 ranking action. I guess we could switch gears to how long Larry Mullen Jr. has had the same haircut.

I put One at 25.   Similar to you, I never really found the song all that interesting and won’t listen to it all the way through these days.   Can’t wait to see where it ends up in the final ranking.

I’m guessing the bolded is me.

One is at 15 for me. Respectable, but probably lower ranked than the list average.

It was a ranker having a laugh. They put Get on Your Boots at #1. I took it on face value with a steaming pile of WTF. Thankfully the list will be redone.

I had posted about this potential rumor couple months ago.  Looks like it might be true that U2 plan on releasing 15 reworked songs:
https://www.u2songs.com/news/songs_of_surrender

(And I do realize that today is April 1st…..but this is a follow up story and now with a NOV 18th release date for the album)
Maybe they have finally figured out what to do with “Staring at the Sun”

Other interesting note on the link, there is new album planned for 2023.

With 35 lists in and at least 2 more expected, only 2 songs are on every list. Might have missed one,  but i doubt it. Any guesses what these 2 songs are?

Two songs likely to be in the top 5 in Bad and Where the Streets Have No Name are missing from only one list so far. Already discussed.

One, Pride and Sunday Bloody Sunday are missing from 2 lists so far.

There are a couple of contrarian lists so far, but not that unreasonable.

We also have an another unexpected number one song. The next highest this song gets ranked is 6, but there are about 7 top 10 rankings. It is also missing from 8 lists.

I gave it a better ranking than both of you. Bonus points to Bono for oozing sexiness at the pub table in the video, while sporting a mild/semi mullet.

Check out the big brain on big bottom.

Not sure how much a difference being on every list will matter. Both of these songs have 5 rankings outside the top 25, including a low of 75.

I think there will be 37 lists unless i get late entries. It will take several days to compile everything and then run the numbers.

Hmmm, I've been thinking I ranked this too high (Binky: low) at #23, but I haven't watched the video (Binky: still life).  Maybe it will turn out that I wish I had it higher!

If your ears aren't telling you that it is a beyond #23 favorite, then it probably isn't, especially if you were thinking you ranked it too high. He does look right nice in the video, though.

I'm excited for these.  Some made my list, but there are some more that made my first cut but ultimately I left off and am not sure I should have.

Last call for lists.

A couple of people have been in touch and will be allowed a few more days.
I have admittedly been away from U2 and this thread for a while, but I can scrounge up a list and send it today. How many songs??

At least 25, with a ceiling of whatever number you want.  List everything you like and nothing you don't. (I'm answering the question now due to JML's time zone meaning he might not be on.)

I wonder what would happen if I ranked all 500 songs we have to work with . . . besides me needing a lobotomy and JML sending me a box of dog poo in the mail.

Dog poo......if you are lucky.

Some of those unranked songs were dreadful, poorly recorded and not really U2. That said there were a few gems worth the effort.

:lmao:   JML specifically said we couldn't, or at least I thought he did (but might be mixing up with the Beatles 64 lists).  I've been relying on that so that I wouldn't be tempted.
Whew.  That means I’m safe too…….have been reconsidering a few choices.   Was thinking of moving the live version of I Fall Down a lot higher.

All good. Got one more potential list coming, but after that is submitted, no more.

Who is this person?  We would all like to heckle him/her!

I definitely think I had I Fall Down (Binky:  You Spring Up) too low.
