JML specifically said we couldn't, or at least I thought he did (but might be mixing up with the Beatles 64 lists). I've been relying on that so that I wouldn't be tempted.
I think i have two people who were serving a suspension for getting baited by the low information brigade in the political forum. One more list. @krista4 still has time to make changes…..
It finished at 10 last time, ahead of ISHFWILF and many others expected to rank higher. This time it is in the top 3 for 7 lists. Top 10 for another 9. It has two lowest of 35 and 42 and doesn’t appear on 5 lists.Anybody else listening to Running To Stand Still on a continuous loop and thinking it should have been higher? No?
Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean “should have ranked higher” on the prior countdown. I didn’t know or care where it was. I don’t do a “should have been” when it comes to the group rankings. I meant “should have ranked higher” on my own list. But…I had those top seven tied for first locked in, and it was just below that, so really it has nowhere to go. Just enjoying the song!It finished at 10 last time, ahead of ISHFWILF and many others expected to rank higher. This time it is in the top 3 for 7 lists. Top 10 for another 9. Now this I’m going to be interested to see!Oddly enough ive been hammering some songs from the anarchy list. One or two leaped into my top 70 at the last moment
It’s a great song. I’ll continue to unapologetically hold the view that songs 5-9 on Joshua Tree are better (on average) than songs 1-4.Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean “should have ranked higher” on the prior countdown. It is in my Top 3, so I have it very high.Anybody else listening to Running To Stand Still on a continuous loop and thinking it should have been higher? No?
It's such a great song. I have it at 8, slightly higher than the expert rankings. Looking at the 7 songs I have in front of it, hard to say which song I would have moved down. So 8 it is!krista4 said:Anybody else listening to Running To Stand Still on a continuous loop and thinking it should have been higher? No?
RHMT isn't too far behind RTSS in my rankings. I love them both. It's such a great song. I have it at 8, slightly higher than the expert rankings. Looking at the 7 songs I have in front of it, hard to say which song I would have moved down. So 8 it is!
Also, Red Hill Mining Town following right afterwards is almost too good to be true. Love it.
I had it ranked #1, which was really #3 because, again, counting to 25 is apparently where math begins to flummox me.krista4 said:Anybody else listening to Running To Stand Still on a continuous loop and thinking it should have been higher? No?
What does it mean when you guys type "Binky"?

What?My neighbor/buddy got a divorce and his wife moved out. He's since turned his garage into a kickassss cantina with a 3-mic karaoke set up. We celebrated his 50th on Saturday and had the after party at his cantina. The two of us belted out Running to Stand Still, which probably sounded like two alley cats having bad intercourse, but in the moment, we were both Bono.

To your chagrin, I have it at 9.simey said:It is in my Top 3, so I have it very high.
To your chagrin, I have it at 9.
Oooo, I do too. Sorry, simey.
The power of the song keeps out any bad energy from the #9. That is why I have "Pride" sitting at that number. To your chagrin, I have it at 9.
Oooo, I do too. Sorry, simey.
I did not rank up to 99 to spare Simey.I have "Slow Dancing" at #99. Hope you don't like that song.
Oh ####. I hope you haven't cursed Willie.I have "Slow Dancing" at #99. Hope you don't like that song.
Oh ####. I hope you haven't cursed Willie.Which version is it?
Perfect, thank you! And I chuckled! In the first Beatles countdown, we realized somewhere along the way that Binky used the words "high" and "low" in the opposite fashion than...well, everyone else. Like, when I said above that I should have ranked "Running to Stand Still" higher, I meant that instead of having it at #9, I should have had it somewhere between #1-8, but Binky would read that to mean it should be at #10 or beyond.
Anyway, we started joking about it there by always putting something like "higher (Binky: lower)", and then it spread across other threads (including those he's not in) and expanded to where people just put the opposite of anything they say in there as a joke.
It doesn't sound all that funny now that I type it out.
Well, we TRIED to get Alexa to play "ONE" but her version didn't spit up any words on the projector screen and we were too over-served to try and wing it without printed lyrics so we went with this one. Plus, after infinity beers, it's quite nice to do the "Singing ooh la, ah la la la de day Ah la la la de day Ah la la la de day" part and then howl like Bono into the night.I can’t imagine a song that says “karaoke party!” less than Running to Stand Still.
Well, I told our GB I could get 25 songs to him lickety-split then spent 3 days curing a list. I had written down on paper what I THOUGHT was 25 songs, but then when I started ranking them down from 25 to 1 I realized I had 28 songs and because I'm incredibly lazy, I just got to Number 1 and then had Better Number 1 and then EVEN BETTER THAN THE REAL NUMBER 1.What?
EVEN BETTER THAN THE REAL NUMBER 1.

Never assign me a task that has to do with counting or math.

RTSS is one of the few solemn songs where you can be “extra” on the vocals. I can see why you guys picked it.Well, we TRIED to get Alexa to play "ONE" but her version didn't spit up any words on the projector screen and we were too over-served to try and wing it without printed lyrics so we went with this one. RTSS is such a fascinating track at the best of times. When a maths nerd like me can have fun with numbers as well......win/win.krista4 said:Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean “should have ranked higher” on the prior countdown. I didn’t know or care where it was. 5 people didnt rank it, but most of them stopped at #25Dang, I’m the outlier at 42.

The four of us that ranked it originally had it at 2, 3, 22 and 42. It ended up #10 overall.
These same 4 rankers have it this time moving from 2-2, 3-3, 22-19 and the big mover 42-6. I was the 22-19.
These rankings last time would have landed it at #3 overall. A total shock. This time......Should be top 10 comfortably, but not ranked by 5 people....2 lower rankings and not a single number one....it wont be number 3 or higher.
Nice! At #5 on my list. (Which i haven‘t touched since January.)simey said:It is in my Top 3, so I have it very high.
I should have been more clear last time that your ranking could be based on the best or worst version of a song, whatever takes your fancy. Cant live in hindsight though so hey ho.I was the lowest ranked last time on RTSS. I really like the reimagined live version, which I did not understand could be considered last time.

It is my #4. So, based on many of the comments I've seen here, I would suspect it to rank fairly high.krista4 said:Anybody else listening to Running To Stand Still on a continuous loop and thinking it should have been higher? No?
I always picture the Sydney performance when thinking of RTSS. The studio version is fantastic but Sydney is the version I ranked.I was the lowest ranked last time on RTSS. I really like the reimagined live version, which I did not understand could be considered last time.

This sounds amazing (the cantina, not the performance).
#9 on my listkrista4 said:Anybody else listening to Running To Stand Still on a continuous loop and thinking it should have been higher? No?
#9 on my list![]()
Same on mine.Honestly I could see it happening to almost any song that finished between 20 and 30.Should we all wildly speculate on which former top 30 song will be barely hanging onto the top 100 this time?

JML wouldn’t throw out the teasers if he didn’t want us to speculate! I’m going with A Celebration.Yeah, there are several good candidates. I'm not looking to create any spoilers, either. Like I said, just bored.![]()
That was one of the ones I was thinking of. It may be my highest-ranked song that was in the 20-30 bloc on the original countdown, but a lot of people aren't familiar with it because it wasn't on an album and didn't get much traction in the US as a single.JML wouldn’t throw out the teasers if he didn’t want us to speculate!
