U2 - Community rankings - FIN - #4 Sunday Bloody Sunday, #3 - One, #2 - Bad, #1 - Where the Streets Have No Name -Spotify links, thanks to Krista4 (3 Viewers)

Ditto. I have it at 30, almost its exact spot on the original countdown. In retrospect that's probably too low (Binky: high), but they have a ton of great songs.
I have it one spot higher than you. I mean lower. No. 31.  I'm going to say the song "Gone" may not be in the top 100.

To try to bring some anecdotal data into the "I wouldn't be surprised if anything from 20-30 last time finished around 100 this time" point:

20. Acrobat -- my rank: 65

21. Walk On -- my rank: 60

22. Even Better Than the Real Thing -- my rank: 4. Obviously I don't think it's this one.

23. Out of Control -- my rank: 21. It's probably not this one either.

24. Mysterious Ways -- my rank: 6, but IIRC I was higher (Binky: lower) on it than most in the original countdown. Still, unlikely that this is down near 100.

25. The Unforgettable Fire -- my rank: 53

26. In God's Country -- my rank: 33. Likely not this one either.

27. Elevation -- my rank: 29. Likely not this one unless krista stuffed the ballot box.

28. Gone -- my rank: 62

29. A Celebration -- my rank: 30, but I explained why I think it could have been ignored by the voters.

30. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses -- my rank: 57

That's 6 songs in an 11-song run that I would have no trouble believing got no love this time around.

Not because they are the three you have the highest, but I'd eliminate Even Better Than the Real Thing, Out of Control, and Mysterious Ways from the possibilities.  Just my sense from reading the thread.  I expect Even Better Than The Real Thing to be higher this time, and Out of Control might stay steady due to a number of "early U2 is the only U2" people coming in this time.  Mysterious Ways's ranking was a surprise to me and I'd hope will slide higher, though now looking at my list I see it's at #19 for me so not that much higher, and what the hell am I talking about.

It’s probably A Celebration.   Really don’t think most U2 fans know that song, and even if they do, it’s not super high on their list.  Mrs APK is obsessed with the band and barely knows the song.  (Exaggerating a bit here)

Just checking in to say hi ;)

Oh yes, I had the APKs in mind there.  ;)

We haven't overthought this enough yet.  Since people could take whatever versions they wanted of a song this time (maybe could last time but it wasn't as clear), are there songs in 20-30 that have a particularly renowned and wonderful live version?  We might take those off the list.

I think Zooropa was the first U2 album I didn't buy, but it was probably more me than them. I HATED the song "Lemon" and by '93 was into much heavier stuff. That's basically where I left them behind.  I've liked a few of their "newer songs" over the years but most of the stuff I've heard is a big meh for me.  I'm hoping to rediscover some missed tunes with these lists, though. I'm sure there's some awesome tunes just waiting for my ears to find them.

There are!  Just not that many. ;)

Seriously, if any other band made most of this stuff…..well, tough to live up to 80s U2.

Good summation.

WGRYWH will rise significantly. At least 2 others from this group will rise to the top 20.

The massive faller will be one from Gone, A Celebration and Walk On

The next trivia question.

Lots of songs have one off entries into the top 15 (I would say about 75 different songs) Most of these do not have consistent support.

There is one song that has a top rank of 16. It has 7 top 25 rankings, 18 top 40 rankings and is ranked by at least 24 people.

What song would this be?

This is for fun but you’re not giving the answer, right?  I hate spoilers on these lists!

What an odd one.  Nobody truly loves it but most people very much like it.  Hmmmm.

I'm not going to type it out, but my guess is my #16 song.

I'm thinking of the previously mentioned Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses or maybe In God's Country, but I'm going with this as my guess:  Sweetest Thing.

I am, however, really bad at these questions.  :bag:

I wasn't sure if you wanted us to name songs for spoiler reasons, and so I just said my #16 song (which is my guess, but I'm probably wrong).

Oh, I'm sorry!  I didn't mean to imply that.  I just hoped we wouldn't be given the answer until it comes up, but even if we are, it's OK.  This is JML's baby, and he should run the thread however he wishes!   :)

Ooooooo.  My #16 is "40" the live at Red Rocks version. So that's my guess.

40 has a top ranking of 4

Mysterious Ways has a top ranking of 3

Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses has a top ranking of 11

In God’s Country has a top ranking of 4

Sweetest Thing is an excellent guess. It is only in 2 top 25 lists and only on 17 lists in total however. It funnily enough does have a top ranking of #16 as well, so out if all the songs possible, this one is the most similar to the actual one I was talking about

It’s all good. I don’t think I reveal the answer to any trivia question for now. If someone is desperate to know I can PM

Never mind.

I’ll go with Wire.
Mmmm.

Despite my personal rank of 282....I really hate this song, it is in 12 top 40 lists, but eliminating it from contention as the song I am talking about is the 2 top 15 rankings.

Like I said there are some varied choices, maybe 75 songs that attracted a top 15 ranking. The song I am talking about will rank higher than most of them due to its consistent appearance on a lot of lists. No one liked it enough to rank it top 15 however

How's the math coming along?  :scared:
Lol. Formula pretty much written. Going through the lists one by one, with some excel help, is the time consuming part. Especially when some people have used the same number twice or missed a number haha.

Im maybe halfway done, but the first half was bloody hard. Downhill from here.

As a sneak peak, if we have eg 300 songs. I will talk about song#300 and #150 on the same day. No one wants to waste months on the countdown from #300-151. So best of both worlds. The deep cuts and the well known stuff will be done at the same time. Deep cuts will be finished by the time we get to #50.

Your efforts on this are unbelievable.  Just the formula itself is a huge achievement.

I love your idea to start simultaneously at the end and halfway through.  Kinda makes for even more cool speculation as to whether songs will be in the top or bottom half.  For instance, if you'd done a top 100 the first time and started that way, some people might be eagerly awaiting Bullet the Blue Sky in the top 50 and then at some point be wondering if it was going to be really high or outrageously low.

Thank you again so much for this.  I'm unreasonably excited considering how long I'd spent "away" from the band.  Discovering some songs again and some for the first time has been wonderful.

I looked back in the thread to see why you hate it. You said his over the top wailing was too distracting for the song. 😀 I dig his singing in it. It goes with the chaos of the song.
Which is what I said when it was revealed on the first countdown. But obviously this is a song that triggers him for some reason.

Its the kind of track that is chaotic, frenetic and lacking in charm. The over the top vocals just rub me the wrong way. I simply cannot enjoy this track. Give me the boring, the bland and terrible covers over this one. But hey, at least its not Get on Your Boots.
