U2 - Community rankings - FIN - #4 Sunday Bloody Sunday, #3 - One, #2 - Bad, #1 - Where the Streets Have No Name -Spotify links, thanks to Krista4 (1 Viewer)

Just an update. Top of the list is pretty much formed. Working through the middle now. Bottom end with one or 2 songs should be quite quick.

Unfortunately finding tons of spelling mistakes, abbreviated song titles and all kinds of stuff that makes automating this difficult. All good, its what i signed up for.

Todays teaser. There is a song that is in the range 75-125 in the original rankings. This time it has been ranked by only 17 of the 40 rankers but it looks like those who like it, really do. It only has one rank below 75, with 11 of the 17 rankers putting it in their top 50 and  7 inside their top 25. It has a highest rank of 8.

It should finish top 50 this time due to its dedicated fans. Guesses on this song?

Has to be something newer.  I’m going to guess Iris.

Iris only has 10 votes and none in the top 25.

There are 3 songs from this group that should vault into the top 50 and a couple that will go close. All are surprises to me. All are pre 2000. The 3 songs all have exactly 7 top 25 entries. 2 of these are ranked by a little more than half. The one im talking about is ranked by only 42% of voters.

Stories for Boys

My guess is An Cat Dubh.

These are good guesses. I’ll offer Surrender and The Three Sunrises.
I thought we were only supposed to guess one song, and Alex was just cheating. 😃 My second guess would also be The Three Sunrises. I was actually going back and forth between An Cat Dubh and The Three Sunrises, and one more song. Are we supposed to be giving multiple answers?

I wasn't sure those were real guesses but looked like what he liked a lot and hoped would move up.

There are rules?

All of the songs mentioned so far have 2-3 top 25 entries at most. An Cat Dubh has 0.

The 3 possible contenders, of which one is what I am talking about are still to be mentioned. All have 7 top 25 rankings. One is one I like, the other 2 I couldnt give a rats about lol. All 3 surprised me with how much people who like the, really like them.

Only 51 to choose from, 6 mentioned and with 17 of them post 2000, the list left is relatively small. 3 of them from the 28 left are the mystery songs.

Truly was just me picking my favorites in that range.   No idea how any of those three songs fall outside the top-50, as all are in my top-25
None of the songs you listed are in my Top 50.    An Cat Dubh and The Three Sunrises are in my Top 50. There are three other songs in the range JML gave that are also in my Top 50.

Huge fan of Three Sunrises as well (top-50 for me too)!  An Cat Dubh isn’t my thing, but Mrs APK really likes it.

Look at all those numbers.

Final Count - 308 songs in the countdown

There are 20 songs in the countdown that I did not rank. Too late in the piece to add them into my list, so will need to at least make sure they are U2 songs lol. There are some weird outliers that we will get to. Maybe 50-60 songs that only have one ranker and that one rank could be as high as in the 50s. My highest solo rank is my #73. It reached number 1 in Ireland and is a cracking little song.

There are at least 5 songs that ranked over 150 last time that will easily crack the top 100. One or two may push the top 50. You can speculate on these if you wish.

If a song has one person rank it 50, and nobody else ranks it……how could the algorithm rank it at 50?

Get on Your Boots!
I just threw up a little 🤢

Of the 20 songs I didnt rank, found one that is essentially the same song, but like a lot of the demo stuff has different titles. The one I have ranked is “Life on a distant Planet”. The other ranker has included “Lost on a Silent Planet”

Its too hard to merge these. Once we get to the Achtung Baby outtakes, several songs are essentially various workings of Lady with the Spinning Head/Take You Down and what they spun off into. Im going off the titles ranked. So 308.

Yeah, that's why I ended up deleting all the demos from my list even though I liked them, although I think I might have let one slip in accidentally.  It's kinda cool that some will be discussed, though.

A 50th ranked song gets 25 points, so if 10 people have a song ranked that averages 2.4 points, the solo song will rank ahead of the 10 ranked song. If the 10 people have it ranked on an average of 2.6 points, it will finish ahead of it.

My 73rd ranked song will have 14.25 points attached to it. If another song has 5 voters accrue 15 points, it finishes ahead of my song. If the 5 voters song totals 14 points, mine will finish ahead of it.

Thanks JML.  That makes sense.  For whatever reason, it read differently in my head.  Regardless, I’m just enjoying the fun of going back and continuing to listen to U2 songs!  Except a few like Boots……

It’s also been cool seeing my daughter get really into U2, along with some other late 70s/early 80s stuff.

Just a heads up that even a song with rankings of 130, 131 and 164 will rank higher than my #73. The ones with only 1 ranking will disappear before we get to around #200.

All i can promise for now is within the week. Still lots of cross checking, preparing and sorting out the bottom of the list to go.

First day of ranking will list #308, #307 and #150.
Thanks Lunchy.  I'm a little slow on the uptake so I may has some additional questions when the results start to drop.

This might be the last teaser before we start. There was a track that finished between 151 and 228 that will rise massively this time.

It only has 13 rankings, but 11 of them are between 20 and 63. It was not in the top half of rankings for any of the original 4 rankers.

There is also one unexpected album that has a distinct subset of fans that rate the album highly with many tracks doing better this time around.

I am already confused by the rankings. I haven't been paying close enough attention. I don't know how many rankers there are, but IMO, the default for any song that someone didn't vote for should be considered a ballot that voted it as 0 points. By that I mean, if 49 people don't vote for a song and 1 person votes it as their #1 song, I would take the total points awarded to the song and divide it by the total number of voters. To illustrate the math . . .

IMO, the tabulating should be 25 total votes (from that one person) / 50 voters = 0.5 points per voter NOT 25 votes / 1 voter = 25 points per voter.

0.5 points on average is an accurate measurement and consensus. 25.0 points on average when only one person voted for it seems way off. But what do I know . . .

OK, my serious guess is that it is either Heartland or Mofo.  (Sorry for multiple guesses, simey.)

Those both seem like good guesses.  I’d like to think it was something older (Another Time Another Place, With a Shout, Is That All),  but guessing some of those older songs are too imperfect or unrefined.

I'd be happy if it were an older one, too.  I don't have either of my guesses on my personally submitted list, by the way.*

*Last I checked.

I am way confused by this post. And I don’t care about the methodology.
