The entire Blind Melon eponymous album is a damn good rock album. Got overexposed on the goofy No Rain song, which is pretty good when you don't hear it 17 times a day on the radio. One of my beginning-to-end perfect albums.

If you overlook the gnr crap, Tommy's actually done a pretty good job post ReplacementsThe first thjng he did was a side project called Bash and Pop. Album is called 'Friday Night Is Killing Me'. It's well worth a listen. And his latest solo album had a few really good tracks on it.

strangely, the only songs I ever put on a playlist from that album are Tones of Home and Change. No Rain is a good song but like you say, overexposed. I'll give this whole album one more listen to today to see if I'm missing something.

there was a band that came around in the early 90s, about the same time as The Black Crowes, called (IIRC) The London Quireboys that are now just called The Quireboys. I thought their entire first album was incredible but they never took off. Just some good rock and roll. Check these songs out on Itunes:

I can find their songs on Itunes but they redid them so they sound slightly different but still some good stuff if you like this kind of music.

It's worth more than 1 more listen. I just flipped through the entire album and was reminded again how strong I think it is from start to finish. They had their own sound at the time, as far as mainstream music. Hoon left this earth too soon. I've purchased everything BM created and like most of it.

And Out Come the Wolves by Rancid is fantastic. Definitely underrated. Not sure Say It Aint So can be classified as underrated. The Blue Album was a huge success. Love the guitar sound/layering on that Blue Album.

Tried to listen to it at some point in early '12. Really didn't hold up as well as I thought. I Was Wrong is about the only song on there I could handle.Price is the man. When you have that much stuff and that many career phases, there's going to be a lot of crap in there. Even The Clash falls prey to it. Drive By Truckers seem to be adhering to this as well. But Prince has so much good work buried in there that he's usually criminally underrated. When I'm fairly regular on a show or working with good friends, I like to save my purple shirt for Friday and listen to the Purple Rain album. Preferably putting I Would Die For You on repeat in the truck, if possible. Always leads my list for most underrated guitar players.

Out Come the Wolves was pretty huge as well. I think I've heard Ruby Soho at stadiums before. Probably borderline underrated. Both albums make the begining-to-end perfect list.

... loved Op Ivy, as well ...Rancid did some solid work. Great old school '76 feel to their stuff. And any band that has a song about a bull ring racetrack ("Golden Gate Fields") is aces in my book.

I put them and also Black Crowes' Southern Harmony and Music Companion (another entry, perhaps) on the car-pod for some good old guitar oriented rock a few weeks ago. Remedy is by far my favorite BC tune and one of my favorite rock songs period. But that album may have had more success than I am remembering.

I had forgotten all about it. its a must have for any Blind Melon fan

Might be in the top ten of my favorite bands of all time. Soup has some good songs on it as well (Mouthful of Cavities, Toes Across the Floor). Nico has some different versions of some of their songs as well as a couple of covers. They actually got a different singer a few years ago and still play shows from time to time, but just not the same at all without Shannon Hoon.one time through again and its better than I remember. I preferred " Don't Forget To Dance" ... and I do recall " Come Dancing" vid getting a very heavy spin on both MTV, and NBC's Friday Night videos. While we are on " dance" here, and with the Tina Turner mention a few posts back ... " Private Dancer" is one of my top '80's tracks. I think it blows the top off of anything she did during her big comeback.
